OFFICIAL LOS ANGELES CLIPPERS 2013 OFFSEASON THREAD - Media Day Done; Training Camp Starting

I agree as to DJ. Despite the crazy trade proposals that are floating around on CTB, I don't see anyone giving us a lot of value for DJ, unless they really want Bledsoe too. Aside from that, I don't see any team giving us much for DJ.
We need to send dj and griffin to the dreams school. We should trade Bledsoe but for a good wing player. His worth is high we shouldn't use him to get rid of dj. I think maybe Brian or Byron for coach. I wanted Stan but that seems is impossible. I just don't want hollins.

Side note - LA is the greatest place ever. The weather (and eye candy) today. Beautiful.

Espn insider rumor..Magic and clippers talk trade.

ESPN's Chad Ford reported this morning that Orlando is interested in trading Arron Afflalo to the Los Angeles Clippers in return for Eric Bledsoe and the expiring $8 million contract of Caron Butler. While the deal would make a lot of sense for the Magic, shedding Affalo's lengthy contract and freeing them up to draft someone like Ben McLemore or Victor Oladipo with the No. 2 pick in next month's draft, we have to wonder how much sense it'd make for the Clippers.

In Bledsoe, the Clippers have an athletic young point guard who is no doubt a valuable trade chip. On top of that, he's an affordable asset set to make $2.62 million next season -- a bargain by today's NBA standards. While the Clips would certainly have to entertain offers for their promising reserve if it helps address the teams other needs (small forward, center), we have to wonder if it'd be worth unloading such a solid trade chip for a player like Afflalo who is guaranteed $7.56 million over each of the next two seasons with a $7.75 player option in 2015-16. Especially if it also means giving up a valuable expiring contract like that of Butler, who himself started 78 games for the Clips this season. Trading Butler closer to next season's trade deadline would likely lead to a better haul.

The Clippers also have Jamal Crawford signed for over $5.2 million through the next three seasons, and though Crawford is better served in a sixth man role it'd be a lot of money locked up at shooting guard if the team also brought in Afflalo. From L.A's perspective, it might be a better idea to talk to Dallas about Bledsoe; the Mavericks are reportedly willing to trade their first-round pick (No. 13) and could dangle Vince Carter or Jae Crowder to help address the Clips' lack of depth on the wing. With that first-rounder, L.A. could go after someone like Pitt's Steven Adams, Gonzaga's Kelly Olynyk, Duke's Mason Plumlee or France's Rudy Gobert to give them another talented center, or they could opt for another young wing like Georgia's Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, D-League star Glen Rice Jr. or UCLA's Shabazz Muhammad.

Forgot to add that rumor on Twitter says this also could included the #2 pick in this years draft.

I like the trade. We get a young wing thats a great defender and a pretty good shooter (3ptrs too). And it gives us just little more than 2 , million more to play with. Now that leaves a void at the sf position. Offer Pierce (if he get bought out) and Barnes to split the M.L.E

Roster would be

CP3 (resign 1st)/Bullips and or Wayans
Afflalo/Jamal/Willie
Pierce/Barnes/Hill
Griffin/Lamar (vet minimum)
DJ/Hollins

^^^ I like the trade too, especially if the draft pick is included. I've always been an Afflalo fan and have long said he'd fit in perfectly on this team. Solid defender and can hit the 3. Tough and plays hard. He would definitely be a big upgrade at the 2. Plus, much as I like him, we need to be rid of Caron's contract. I wouldn't be mad if this deal gets done.

Might as well scratch us out the first round again.

Please don't hire Byron Scott.

This.

Although the Clips have come a long way on the court, the FO still is operating as the same ole Clippers. Why wait 3 wks to fire VDN and then sit on your heads for another week while excellent asst. coaches whom are great with x's and o's (the team's greatest weakness IMO) are being picked right off the market (Budenholzer and Malone)?

Scott, McMillan, Hollins? >: You gotta be $#*^#! kidding me? These retreads and a figurehead (Mem asst. Joreger is the really master behind the Grizz defense) aren't going to do any much different than VDN to be honest. Hire these dudes and our issues in the half-court offense will still be there.

Shaw and SVG are about the only candidates left that excite me. Hire B Scott and our glass ceiling is set at the 2nd round.

^^^Latest rumor is that we've reached out to Jeff VanGundy, not Stan. I'm good with that. I like JVG.

Source: Chris Paul 'angry' with Clips

Chris Paul is upset with the Los Angeles Clippers organization because he is being widely blamed for the firing of Vinny Del Negro as the Clippers' coach, according to a source close to the situation.

How much of an impact this will have on Paul's decision to re-sign with the Clippers as a free agent is not clear, but the source conceded that Paul's anger could lead him to look elsewhere.

"He's angry right now and his anger is directed toward the Clippers organization," the source said. "Chris is a man of principle and if he feels like you've gone against his principles, it will affect how he feels about you. He's very agitated that his name has been put out there as the reason for Vinny's firing. He had nothing to do with it."

It has been widely assumed that Paul will re-sign with the Clippers this summer. He has often spoken as if it's a foregone conclusion.

Plus, the Clippers can offer him a five-year, $108 million deal, $28 million more than any other club. But the source said he would not put it past Paul to turn down more money if he feels strongly that he's been slighted.

Del Negro was fired on May 21 after leading the Clippers to 56 wins, the most successful regular season in franchise history. That same day, Clippers owner Donald Sterling strongly implied in an interview with the Los Angeles Times that Paul and Blake Griffin were to blame for Del Negro's ouster.

Sterling told Times columnist T.J. Simers that Del Negro "is a wonderful man" and that he's "sad about the whole thing."

Simers wrote that he asked Sterling if Del Negro was fired "just to hang on to Chris Paul?"

Sterling said: "I always want to be honest and not say anything that is not true. So I'd rather not say anything. But you know, the coach did a really good job. I think he did. And I liked working with him. There are just factors that make life very complicated and very challenging."

Simers then wrote that he asked Sterling if he was "off base" to say the Clippers' "players are now calling the shots?"

"No, you're not off base," Sterling replied. "This is a players' league, and, unfortunately, if you want to win you have to make the players happy."

Simers later quoted Sterling as saying, "If you have special players, and special players think that they know the best opportunity to win, you have to support them."

True or not, Del Negro believes Paul got him fired, according to a source close to the Clippers' ex-coach. The source added that Del Negro had no idea during the regular season or the playoffs that Paul wanted him out. On an appearance on the Dan Patrick radio show, Del Negro implied on Thursday that Paul was the reason he was let go.

But a source with knowledge of the situation said Paul refused to get involved in the Clippers' coaching situation and that he wanted nothing to do with the decision to retain or release Del Negro.

"Chris made it abundantly clear to the Clippers that he did not want to be involved in any decision about Vinny's future," the source said. "And Blake had nothing to do with it either."

The source said the Clippers' front office was at odds with Del Negro for much of the season and that their differences with him were so strong that the executives did not need to consult Paul or any other players when deciding on Del Negro's future with the team.

One divide between Del Negro and the front office stemmed from the fact that Del Negro made trade calls to other clubs during the season, according to a source. As the February trade deadline neared, the source said Del Negro discussed a potential trade with the Boston Celtics that would have sent DeAndre Jordan and Eric Bledsoe to Boston for Kevin Garnett. The trade rumor became major news around the league, even though the Clippers' front office was staunchly against the trade.

"The front office's feelings about getting rid of Vinny were strong enough that the players didn't need to get involved," a source said.

"The reason Vinny is no longer the Clippers' coach is because the front office didn't think he was the guy that could get them where they were trying to go. The players didn't have anything to do with it."

One source added that Paul is also steering clear of the Clippers' search for a new coach. The Clippers have a short list of Jeff Van Gundy, Brian Shaw and Byron Scott, according to a source. They are also considering asking the Nuggets for permission to interview coach George Karl.

Paul will be eligible for free agency on July 1. Several clubs will be willing to offer him a maximum-salaried contract. If he wants to leave the Clippers, Paul could also request a sign-and-trade to a team without salary cap space.

If Paul considers leaving the Clippers, the Atlanta Hawks would be a potential landing spot. Paul has always been fond of the city of Atlanta, and the Hawks have the cap room to sign both Paul and Dwight Howard, a Lakers free agent, to lucrative contracts. Paul and Howard have spoken in the past about joining forces, but once Paul was traded to the Clippers in December of 2011 and Howard was moved to the Lakers last summer, the duo figured that possibility was dead.

Howard, an Atlanta native, has been lukewarm at best about the idea of playing in his hometown. But the possibility of playing with Paul would almost certainly get him to rethink his position.

^^^Whatever, man. I can't worry about every CP rumor that comes out. Either he signs with us or he doesn't. Life will go on either way. I just want to get past the drama.

Sources: Clippers contact candidates

The Los Angeles Clippers have contacted Jeff Van Gundy, Byron Scott and Alvin Gentry to gauge their interest in becoming the team's next head coach, according to league sources with knowledge of the situation.

Van Gundy and Indiana Pacers associate head coach Brian Shaw are considered the team's top choices at this point, three sources told ESPNLosAngeles.com's Ramona Shelburne. The situation is fluid, however, because no formal interviews have been scheduled and owner Donald Sterling has not weighed in yet.

Shaw is unavailable as long as the Pacers are alive in the NBA playoffs, although the Clippers are confident he is interested in the job, sources said. Van Gundy's interest level is harder to gauge, sources said, but he did not immediately rebuff the Clippers when they contacted him.

The Clippers had interest in his brother, Stan Van Gundy, as well, but Stan has signaled publicly and privately that he does not intend to coach next season.

The Clippers have not yet spoken to former Trail Blazers coach Nate McMillan, but he is also a candidate, sources said. The team has yet to request permission to speak to Memphis Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins, sources said.

ESPNLosAngeles.com reported earlier this week the team is contemplating asking permission to speak with a coach who is still under contract. ESPN the Magazine's Chris Broussard confirmed Thursday night that coach is Denver's George Karl.

Yahoo! Sports first reported the Clippers' interest in Karl.

Clippers vice president of basketball operations Gary Sacks reached out to Scott via telephone this week, asking if he has interest in coaching the team, according to league sources. Scott, recently fired by the Cleveland Cavaliers, has interest in the job, a source close to the situation said.

The talks were preliminary; no offer was made and no official interview has been set up yet. A source said the Clippers' front office is putting together a list of candidates that it will take to owner Donald Sterling.

Scott, a Los Angeles native, was a championship player for the Los Angeles Lakers during their famed "Showtime" era. So hiring Scott, once considered a prime candidate to eventually coach the Lakers, could steal a bit of shine away from the Lakers.

Scott led the New Jersey Nets to consecutive NBA Finals appearances in 2002 and '03 with a team that had some similarities to these Clippers.

Like the Clippers, who are expected to re-sign free agent Chris Paul, those Nets featured a great point guard in Jason Kidd, as well as a high-flying power forward in Kenyon Martin, who could be described as a lesser version of the Clippers' Blake Griffin.

Scott also experienced playoff success while coaching Paul in New Orleans. Paul and Scott have remained close and met for a meal a few weeks ago after the Clippers were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs.

CONTACT BRIAN SHAW AFTER SATURDAY NIGHT!

^^^George Karl? If our goal was lose in the 1st round every year, we should have just kept VDN.

Donald Sterling is wrong for throwing Chris Paul under the bus, very unethical...

I don't know if it was unethical, I just think DTS is kind of an idiot and not very media savvy. I'm sure he thinks he didn't say anything that was a big deal, especially since he didn't name any names and just said teams have to listen to their "stars." It could have been Griffin he was talking about. Oh well, though. What's done is done.

you're right bc there are more than just two stars on this team

hope BScott or Nate get the job if Alvin Gentry can't be had for cheap.

I don't think Hollins will get the job because I'm sure he's gonna be expensive and you know how Sterling is. I think it's between Brian Shaw and Nate. Maybe Bernie Bickerstaff will be talks too. I'm hopinh Shaw gets it.

If Shaw gets it how will the triangle O fit in with the existing personnel?

I'm so glad the Van Gundy bros are no longer possibilities. Thank you front office.

We don't have the inside personnel to run the triangle. I have no confidence in DJ's inside game and very little in Blake's inside game at this point

Who would you guys rather have, shaw or Karl?

Personally, I'd rather give Shaw a shot. Karl's good, but his age, health and playoff record all concern me a bit. Plus, we've seen a lot of assistant coaches do well with HC opportunities lately, like Thibs and Vogel. So, all that makes me lean toward Shaw.
