It helps when an absolute genius worked on or had influence on the majority of those designs

Of course Tinker had a lot to do with Nike's success but remember, there was classic designs coming from every brand so it wasn't just one man. Reebok had a ton of classics so did Converse,Avia, Asics, New Balance etc. and every brand had their own vibe.

Lol, which is why I ended with etc. to many classics, I also didn't list all the ACG s tuff, Air Spans, Quantum force, air current etc. Just to many to list And I could go on and on about all the other brands but I own a website that already does that :wink: http://www.defynewyork.com


Btw picked this up a month or so back on eBay, its my favorite year for sneaker releases from Nike and a pivotal moment in time for the company so it was one of those things I just had to get. Can't wait to frame it!

I was talking to a cowrker the other day about BKs.
Man those were the days, I feel like this cycle will repeat itself.

Diversity is always good for the consumer but the avg collector/wearer today seems to think Nike/Jordans are the end all be all.

I think there are some good models being released today but I don't think we'll ever see anything like this time period again. The barrier to entry back then was easier than it is today and some of the smaller companies were getting away with things they would be called out for today. Remember, we were seeing designs that only a few years earlier were next to impossible to create due to technology restraints but it all goes deeper than that. Of course, there were the athletes themselves which were some of the greatest of all time, athletes that were doing things that had never been seen before like Bo Jackson but then there were all the these timeless fresh TV shows that were ground breaking coupled with the emergence of so many subcultures like Hip Hop, Grunge, Freestyle and they had their own style of dress, and then you had those ad campaigns that were just WOW. Console wars Nintendo vs Sega Vs Turbo Grafx 16 then the hand helds Game Gear, Game Boy, Turbo Express, Atari Lynx. It was the perfect storm of creativity, innovation and advertising. All these things play into what made these sneakers special to us. It wasn't oh, these are exclusive let me get a pic for IG or let me hoard these with the hope I can flip them on eBay it was the memories we created in them and the things we saw and experienced in life that made them so special (at least for me).

There was just so much new and innovative stuff going on at that time I still think we are still absorbing it all today.

Nintendo vs Sega vs PC Engine/TurboGrafx-16!!!  And this mysterious new system from Sony!  But what do they know about video games?

Ay... non-tennis dudes used to rock tennis shoes casually back then.  We used to see it so much on mainstream media.  Pretty much non-existent for the tennis shoes nowadays.

Says a lot about Nike Tennis, especially given that they've used the same models (Vapor 9 and LunarBallistec 1) for the past 2 years... and likely in 2016.  Nike Tennis just ain't what it used to be.

I cant play a lick of tennis but was a huge fan Agassi. I just wanted the ATC cuz everyone else wore Jordans truth be told Im a Becker fan

Found myself beating them over last year, breathable/soft suede+a softer/more padded inner liner make them the most comfortable GR ATCII IMO. Can walk a full day in these, and they are holding up wears well. Went half a size up on these ones bc of this extra padded inside, these are a perfect 12 and thus have a DS 11.5 to exchange VS a DS 12. Also sold a 13 for retail on ebay  last year... have to say as weird as this may sound first that this CW relieved different outfit colors you would think not matching first.
 
I passed on those bamboos cause I was holding out for the grey suede with the orange sole that never made it past sample stage.
