"I can understand they change the name because it hurts with recruiting" :smh:

can't get on vice's website at work....

Saw part 1 on youtube though...will check the rest later. I remember when this made the news...nothing really happened though right?

That ol miss mascot should have been changed years ago. Stuff like that is what's wrong with the world now.

Nothing really happened. Too many blacks in the city and the KKK was not able to get the name changed back to what the park was originally called. They were mad because the UT medical center changed the name of the park, so they wanted to bring the "biggest KKK riot" to Memphis. IMO, it was a complete joke because no one fears them in this city.

It was actually a lot worse in 1999 (?) I believe. It was an actual riot where people in the city were breaking ****, causing a lot of chaos trying to get to the KKK members.

I know in a forum most people don't care, and won't care for a few but that dude was wrong and trivialized the KKK and their history. Been doing damn book reports on them since I was in hs, know thy enemy all that jazz. Gave a really really good presentation Junior year.

At their start they were a social club aiming to convience black people back into a condition of servitude, then AFTER Forrest "resigned" they became very violent. The current clan is from the 1980's, possibly the fourth (or third depending on who you talk to, post David Dukes era). They were at their worst in the 1950's-1970's. Everyone has rights, let them cook, I mean fight against them but don't stifle free speech, even unpopular speech, you take them away then you take away the black panther party and as a rebellious sort I ain't having that.

One of the least interesting VICE documentaries in a minute. Probably due to the gangs not showing up, the rain and talking to that one guy who got hate voicemails.
