Cambodian workers hurt in Nike factory clash

honestly, this is a major reason why i stopped buying sneakers so often. i still like them but i can't justify buying $150 pair that someone gets paid 30 cents to make.

next pair is a new balance made in usa.

Take a look at the inside tag on NB's next time you go shopping.
It's true, most New Balance shoes are now made in China.

They do have a few pairs still made in the USA, but it's a very small portion of the overall line:  http://www.newbalance.com/men/collection/USA-Collection/166000,default,sc.html

If you're interested in a more ethical alternative, consider giving these a look:  http://www.thefaircorp.com/category/hi-top-trainers

They're fair trade, organic, and union-made.  Maybe they're a little harder on your feet, but they're a lot easier on your conscience.

If people prove that demand exists for more ethically produced footwear, I'd certainly like to think that the big brands would step up to the plate - but don't expect them to take the first step.  It's up to consumers to insist on raising the bar.

If conditions are really as bad then I can see why the grey market exist.
exactly, i was actually going to make a thread similar to this a couple days ago as a spin off thread to da lively discussion thats

going on about da explosion of grey market jordans thats flooding da marketplace right now in da Jordan Brand section...for folks who

aren't in da loop, grey market jordans are J's that are currently being made factories that make da retail pairs but do it unauthorized

and go out da back door...

if you want more detailed info go here

which brings me to my main question, do ya care when da products ya buy come from? i kinda do, and da more american jobs are being

shipped overseas for da worse we are as a Country cuz we dont manufacture anything, and da fact that it cost so much to make stuff here makes

us very uncompetitive on a global scale. ethics & common sense play a part too (part of da reason im indifferent about diamonds).

Nike wouldn't move their production overseas back to the US. They aren't looking to pay workers X amount here in the US, it wouldn't fly. Why pay workers more when you can pay people less overseas? That's how Nike sees it. It's an on-going problem not by Nike but many other major Corporations that outsource work.

did you skip over the part that says they get $74 a month????? wtf is that ??? you cant even pay a cell phone bill with that let alone live on or feed your famliy ,this ****t is bad , I WOULD LOVE TO BOYCOTT NIKE AND SHOW THEM THEY DONT RUN US WE MADE THEM WHAT TEHY ARE LETS HURT THERE POCKETS FOR A CHANGE

as da rest of da world emerges from da 3rd and enters middle class, manufacturers are running out of places where they can cheaply pay people...

i'll be waiting till Nikes/JB say "made in india" and "made in africa"

terrible story
nike and all these big corporations take no responsibly when something like this happens since they out source production to the pouchen/yueyuen factories

http://www.pouchen.com/english/1.aspx

http://www.yueyuen.com/

these sweatshops are where the early releases or extra materials are also smuggled out from

the people who work these factories get paid nothing to make the crap we buy at $300.00 & $ 400.00 a pair

"as da rest of da world emerges from da 3rd and enters middle "

this right here makes a lot sense not just about this terrible story but as current life as we know it
