The UTAH JAZZ Support Group thread: Majorly updated.

Really looking forward to this season. I couldnt watch **** last year, but I'll be back in Utah and finally able to watch games again

John Lucas, Malcolm Thomas and Erik Murphy to the Cavs for Carrick Felix, a future second-round pick and $1.2 million.

Another transaction that I love. Three useless players for one that could be, yet another pick and free money. Preventing Lucas from being on the roster and getting any amount of playing time is a huge win on its own.

Felix has the makings of an athletic, high-energy "three and D" player. He shot 32.6% from three in three years of college, and 34.6% in limited action with the Cavs and their affiliate.

And he was the team barber for that affiliate, so all of the black players that can never get a good cut in Salt Lake City are in luck.

Also, Booker is only guaranteed $250,000 in the second year of his deal. Brilliant.

Favors/Gobert
Kanter/Booker/Novak
Hayward/Hood/Evans
Exum/Burks/Felix
Burke

I imagine that they will still add a veteran point guard, or maybe just bring Clark back in his combo guard role.

Otherwise, that looks to be a pretty set roster, and I am a fan.

Assuming that the pick in the deal isn't too far off, it'll be the 15th pick they own in the next four drafts.

Locke was just talking about Lindsey's asset accumulation and non-guanrateed contracts in his podcast today.

If Kanter can break out this year, the league better watch out. I think the Jazz could be the surprise team in the West. Kind of like how the Suns took everyone by surprise this past season and almost made the playoffs.

Too bad he didn't accelerate the rebuild by letting Corbin go sooner.

Hornacek coaching this team. One has to wonder...

Snyder has made it clear that he wants the Jazz to play at a fast pace with a lot of ball movement, which is something that the coaching staff and players are excited about.

"Hopefully we can get out on the floor and make plays for each other," Synder said. "Playing with pace, hopefully, is not just getting the ball up the court quickly, but sharing the ball and playing with the pass. I saw some moments here [during summer league] where I was really happy with how the ball moved. We're not perfect yet, never will be, but our spacing and a lot of things can improve. But I thought there was really a willingness and effort on our guys' part to play with the pass. It's just the idea of the ball moving. I think if you run 100 feet and I pass 100 feet, I'm going to win. The ball moves faster than people and if you play with the pass, it keeps people guessing and on the move."
Having Burke and Exum in the backcourt – two players capable of playing point guard and running the offense – should make it easier for the Jazz to get out in transition. Snyder is confident that Burke and Exum will be able to coexist and form one of the more intriguing backcourts in the NBA.

"I was waiting for the Dante-Trey question," Snyder said with a smile when asked about the duo. "I've talked about this every time we play, every time we practice. To me, there aren't positions in basketball. If you have five guys on the floor that can defend the five guys on the other team, it doesn't matter whether you call them ones, twos, threes, fours or fives. Those two guys, I think, can match up defensively with other guards and if they can play together, which I think they can, they really present a matchup problem. I do think that they can be a unique backcourt. And in my mind I see them as a backcourt, as opposed to a one and a two or a three."
Man, Snyder is saying all of the right things to me.

"It's good; everybody wants to play fast," Hood said. "It helps us as a team, and it's hard to defend. I think that's the reason we’re playing like that. We're moving. When we play half-court offense, we're moving the ball, we're sharing the ball and it's hard to guard."
"It's great," Gobert said of playing with Burke and Exum. "When I get the rebound, I just pass to Trey or Dante, and I know it's going to be quick so we can get easy baskets. They're both good passers. Trey, Dante and even Rodney is a good passer – pretty much all the guards. I just want to be aggressive and if they shoot, I just go after the rebound."
"He is one of the quickest guys I've ever seen with the ball," Hood said of Exum. "He changes speeds just like that. It helps me, him getting into the lane and being able to pass the ball. He's a really good passer as well. He can score. I mean he's just ultra-quick."

Kev, were you a fan of the Exum pick from jump, or you just now seein how good he looks like he's goin to be?

I'm forever gonna wonder why Orlando passed on him. Even tho I love AG, just thought Exum and Oladipo as a pairing was gonna be savagery.

I watched very little college basketball this year, so all I really did was start looking at draftees a week or two before the draft. Not usually how I do things at all, and it wasn't enough to make many conclusions. The only two players that I was all in on in the Jazz's range were Gordon and Randle (who I saw a lot of during the season, but wasn't a real fit for them).

Like most, I watched the same videos and worried about the competition aspect for Exum. I also didn't think he would last until five. Once Gordon went fourth, I was pretty bummed just because that was my one rooting interest.

After seeing a good deal of him in summer league, I am most excited about how I think he will fit in Snyder's offense. Willing and creative passer with vision, but also incredibly quick and able to attack. That should fit really well alongside any combination of Burke, Hayward, shooters and bigs in a motion offense. And he has length and active hands on defense. Still really have no idea what to expect from him, numbers-wise, though. This season, or five from now.

You know what's pretty funny? On paper, he's not all that dissimilar to Burks.

He "looked" pretty smooth out there, and that's scary to me, considering he sat out a year.

Like, how good will he be after playin a season against competition and learning how to use all those skills? :smh:

Utah has a nice young core. If Kanter could take that next step, it'd be huge for the franchise. I like their prospects though. Hayward, Exum, Favors, Burke, that's a nice little cast there.

Dee Bost, Jack Cooley, Brock Motem, Kevin Murphy and Toure Murry signed recently. Nothing more than 14th/15th men, at best. Camp fillers.

Trevor Booker
Bost
Trey Burke
Alec Burks
Ian Clark
Cooley
Jeremy Evans
Dante Exum
Derrick Favors
Carrick Felix
Rudy Gobert
Gordon Hayward
Rodney Hood
Enes Kanter
Motem
