Ya it's awfully hard to deny that Zimmerman was/is prejudiced, and that certainly should help the prosecution's case, but that is not nearly enough evidence to convict him of murder.
Ya, I think they very rarely call the accused to the stand. It just opens them up to get shredded, as you said. Don't think it's in the best interest of the defense.
