+++OFFICIAL JAY Z THREAD+++

How is that unfair?

I've heard a ton of their music.

The Domo Genesis tape with ALC is one of the other bright spots in their catalog

It sounded to me like you were grouping them all in based on your opinion of Earl. My mistake.

So this is the official Jay-z thread I suppose? I'm sure the stans are up on it but I just found out about this.. Jay-Z rapping as a teen in '86 (his part starts at 4:10) :wow:

 at his voice

He killed it.

AND he has been able to adapt to every new era in music and culture over the last 20+ years and only increase in relevance.

That's a pretty big accomplishment.

Disappointed that Jay didn't use the beat at 7:20

You just want a couple of co signs.

Your '' every way " exposes the Stan in you.

You're a fool.  I'm the first person to post "Nas lost" in a thread, I thoroughly enjoyed the "Hey Papi" video, and I own the actual Streets is Watching Soundtrack cd (in physical form).  Hell I even have the same birthday as Jay-Z -- the universe saw fit to bring me into this world on December 4th.

But you're right, I'm a Nas "stan."

*%%#!@* idiot.

To everyone else, I meant to add Who Ya Wit to the list and it's exclusion was an unintentional mistake by me.  I will go back and admit that Vol. 1 isn't as horrible as I initially made it out to be.  Maybe it was just the shock of how much more cohesive and well put together It was Written sounded to me on consecutive plays last night.

It just sounds like Nas put more thought into how each track played off the last and the overall structure of his sophomore cd.

Vol. 1 to me still feels like a bunch of different individual and unconnected street hustler tales, none of which really compliment each other as a whole.

And a lot of the songs REALLY aren't as good as you remember them.  You're letting the nostalgia interfer.  Go back and listen to the album again.

P.S. to answer a question from that thread three years ago: A dirty version of Streets Is Watching DOES exist.

Off topic but I enjoyed Wolf, 48 is my joint.

On topic, I wish I could see JayZ/JT to hear Crown live. Gets my car thumping. Bet its godly in concert. Wish they didn't include that corny hook and just had sample with jay saying crown.
Kanye West Wanted Jay-Z to Include "Holy Grail" and "Oceans" on Watch the Throne

By Evan Minsker  on July 14, 2013 at 07:58 p.m.

Starting tomorrow and then throughout the week, BBC Radio 1's Zane Lowe  will air his new interview with Jay-Z. According to NME, Jay revealed to Lowe that he had already started working on the Magna Carta Holy Grail  tracks "Holy Grail"  (featuring Justin Timberlake) and "Oceans"  (featuring Frank Ocean) around the time he was working on Watch the Throne  with Kanye West

Jay said he and Kanye agreed that after they did the album together, they'd start working on their new solo albums. Jay made those two tracks and played them for Kanye, which instigated a four-day argument about if they should've been on WTT  or held for MCHG:
"[There were] no lyrics on 'Holy Grail' and I recorded 'Oceans' and I played those records for Kanye. And he was like, 'No those have to go on Watch the Throne,' so we spent four days arguing about those records and I was explaining to him why it wasn't right for this project and I had a whole idea for making this album calledMagna Carta...  Holy Grail  [part of] the name came after."
Jay also explained that the arguing was civil. "Four days literally arguing... not like fighting. Well, there was some pushing at one point but not between us, just everyone else got a little excited."

We can only hope and pray that Kanye did a verse to it and it somehow sees the light of day on a remix or something...

One can wish right? :rolleyes

Yup. I have it and left both on my iTunes version of the album. Theres a skit at the beginning of it.

LOL at the premise of your thread though. L-O-L. Said it before, and I'll say it again, Volume One is his most under rated album. The amount of disrespect people show it is appalling.

Jay-Z blacked out on Diamonds remix

What was better? The Diamonds beat or Kanye rapping on Diamonds?

How are reviews getting worse?

Upon its release Magna Carta... Holy Grail received mixed reviews from music critics, who were divided in their opinion about the album: some praised it for its lyricism and production, while others criticized Jay-Z for lack of presence. At Metacritic, which assigns a normalized rating out of 100 to reviews from critics, the album received an average score of 57, based on 35 reviews, which indicates "mixed or average reviews".
