Ray Donovan; new series on showtime

He's not tripping they know where he works and they are coming after him thats what I got out of that anyway.

I think it's either this or they just want to show his disease kicking in to another stage. Ray mentioned the Doctor said his mind would start deteriorating.

I'm pretty sure Bunch just uses them as paperweights. That's what that last scene signified.

Or the guy was really Aryan, but Bunch putting the weight will make Terry think the Aryans came back.

That's what I'm thinking. Just to show how paranoid Terry was. At the end I'm thinking it was affirming that there was in fact someone out to get Terry but it made sense with the papers and letters on the ground the second time and Pie not seeing the guy in the office the first time.

Its either paranoia or actually the aryan's. Bunchy putting the weight at the end could just confuse Terry and trigger his paranoia. It will be interesting to see how this plays out e.g. Paranoia or Aryan.

New previews suggest Romero may really be a Paraclete priest. I'm still banking on him being other than what he appears to be, or at least have a motivation that isn't what we expect. I'd be disappointed if it were so straightforward.

Everything about this ep says it's paranoia.

I don't get how yall don't see that if you've watched the entire ep.

The Aryans aren't back. If they do come back the writers will make that very clear in the storytelling. This aint a mystery show.

He's definitely a priest investigating the disappearance/death of the molester priest.

Now that he knows the truth, we'll see if he's down for the molesters and is gonna raise hell or if he just wanted the truth.

I'm legitimately shocked that you write show reviews.

You just seem to not be able to grasp the most straightforward details about a show. I don't see how anyone with what we know of season 3 thus far could say Father Romero was a Fed. And it took a preview to prove what was clearly stated in the first episode.

well I can see why you don't write reviews. Things aren't always what they seem, especially now that nearly every program tries to present some sort of sleight of hand to get people talking. Also, I never said he was definitely a fed, just that the possibility existed. You assumed that I was trying to prove he was, I was just talking about the possibility that he could be.

I don't think he gets paid for it.

This is not a good way to analyze tv shows. The anything can happen mentality is an excuse for laziness or just random 1st idea that pops in your head theories.

Yes, I do get paid for it. I also get paid for record and movie reviews. I've been writing professionally for years. It's not so simple as saying "anything happens." It's looking at the possibility of things within the context of a show. Let's take this Fed/Priest thing and look at it in the context of a show that just dealt with Ray ******* up a high-ranking official's career. It's not "anything can happen" to think that it is possible that that agent would want some payback and would have an idea just where to go to get it. It's hardly random, sorry son.

Well if this was the True Detective thread, I'd understand. The smoke and mirrors is part of True Detective's appeal as a show. Ray Donovan on the other hand is not like that. It's a pretty straightforward show, you don't really have to do a lot of guessing the show lays it out. Like we all pretty much already know Ray is going to win by the end of the season. Father Romero will either be dead or in Ray's pocket. He'll most likely have his 3% and his family will probably hate him for whatever reason. What makes it so interesting is how Ray gets to that point. But as far as guessing people's motives and who's the bad guy, you don't really have to do that with Ray Donovan.

True, it hasn't been "that kind of show." But with a new show runner comes new ideas. That's what forums are for, speculation, for me. I wouldn't spend an entire article speculating about what could happen because it can come back to bite you if you're wildly incorrect. That said the speculation part is fun and gets you thinking about different things, especially thematically.

That's what you just did though.

In the context of the show as far a s what's possible I don't see where you're getting the priest we've seen from ep 1 is a FED and has been pretending to be a priest when we saw him bless the cop that let him in to the evidence room.

As far as the show goes nothing has pointed to the priest being a FED.

I'm left to think you're using the anything can happen thought process with that prediction.

I'm right with Rico being shocked when it comes to this topic.

Not what I did. but okay.

That would hardly be the first time some one on this show, or any number of shows, pretended to be someone they aren't to get what they wanted. Again, I never said he was definitely a fed. It's just speculation. But be shocked all you want. You're also free to try your hand at being a pro writer.

You definitely did when you backed it up by saying other shows are all trying to do the surprise reveal sort of thing.

That would hardly be the first time some one on this show, or any number of shows, pretended to be someone they aren't to get what they wanted. Again, I never said he was definitely a fed. It's just speculation.
You just did it again.

Citing that others show did it really isn't' a good argument.
But be shocked all you want. You're also free to try your hand at being a pro writer.
If the pay was great I would. You kinda making it look easy based off that prediction and your argument for it.

You're arguing against things I'm not saying. I went back to your earlier posts trying to understand your argument, and it seems you're confusing "analysis" and "speculation."  The two things are not the same. Analysis, which is what I would do for a piece, is looking at the text (the video in this case, just in case the use of the term text in this context loses you) and drawing out theme from what is in the text. For example, I look at the obvious symbols in "Ding" and surmise that the writers are intending the symbols to be obvious, telling us that the characters can't see what is plainly in front of them (Paige's braces say she's a Daddy's girl playing games but Ray ignores the obvious and takes her seriously). Speculation is saying "What if the priest is a fed sent by Cochran to get revenge?" There's scant evidence, only supposition. But nothing stopping me from asking the question, and it doesn't mean my analysis of the show is off.

PEople get too caught up in plot machinations, whether it's a straightforward show like Donovan or something like Lost. Being able to pick out obvious plot points (He's wearing a collar he must be a priest!) doesn't make you a great analyst, and speculating about off-center theories doesn't make you a poor one.

I'm not confusing the two.

I just find it shocking that somebody that analyzes the storytelling on tv for a living would make such bad speculation and not as a joke.

I'm not praising the observation of seeing the guy is a priest. I'm criticizing saying he's a FED when there's been nothing to hint towards that in the story AT ALL. Don't confuse those two things.

 @ that beat down. This priest Romero is nuts. He legit talking about repentance and forgiveness in a den of alleged child molesters. I mean it's so ******* sick. They're allegedly trying to make up for what they did while O'Connor played denial the whole damn time he was being interrogated until it was too late but we suppose to believe he was on the right path.

It makes it worse that seemingly Romero did tell Bunchy the truth and he literally dug out the eyes of his abuser (possibly killed him) and he went back to the church and became a priest himself. Trying to rope Ray back in to faith :rolleyes

Talking about he gonna excommunicate Ray from the church  I was howling when he said that.

Anyway, liked Mickey's move. Thought he was gonna get punked and pay up. He lucky Bunchy was there though. It'll be cool to see how that ends up, does Mickey get Ray's help or just snitches on these guys.

Loved the focus on Bunchy. I like how they had Terry make the observation about Bunchy hiding super heroine comics like they were porn and now his girl is basically that in real life. He deserves at least one W. Then watching him let loose on those goons with the pipe  He was letting out all that rage after Ray and Terry barked on him. Only gave Terry a taste but damn near killed one of those guys.

Bridget's and Abby's stories continue to be boring.

I'm wondering why Terry doesn't try to get back his nurse gf if he needs some at home help. I knew he wasn't moving in with Ray so Abby could wipe his ***.

Wonder if Ray smashed :nerd:

About to get on last nights episode.

Sidenote: That was an interesting exchange about speculation and analaysis.

More than a few people speculated the Priest could be a fed, or a number of other things, one of which was somebody who was neither a fed or a priest but was out to get Ray from a previous dealing and only used the a Priest outfit to get into the hospital to get (try to get) info from Ezra etc.

Speculating is what happens in threads. Analaysis is what happens while reviewing articles. Nice.
I think you summed it up well, bakajin bakajin by stating simply, just because you speculate about it( in a forum thread nonetheless) doesn't mean you are Going to write an article about it, because writing an article about it and being wrong is where it can bite you in the ***.

There are a few people here, I'm sure, that could write reviews and get paid for it, Zik included. They do it here all the time, well, and for Free, so I got a little giggle to hear the the shots fired at you, and then see those followed with "I don't write because the pay isn't great"

I'll check back in after the ep, I need to read Ziks post afterward.

Man, it got popping.
Ray definitely smashed.
Bunchy damaged those Armenians.

Mickey is great TV, that prick.
Abbey kept her mouth closed for an entire episode, no smack complaining at all, just said ok, nice. I like this Abbey.

I don't mind her or Bridgette's character or story.
I've had a soft spot for Kerris Dorsey though ever since Moneyball when she made Pitt cry when he popped in that tape of her singing and strumming the guitar.

The song she sang to end the episode was beautiful.

That priest was excommunicating them or exercising demons? **** was mad creepy.

Terry is not happy about being excommunicated though, Ray is going to give that confession by season end.

All in all dope ep.
I need more Lena though.

Ray is right not to confess in that scene. Does him no good at all and the priest could be recording it. His intentions are still not clear at all. Who knows, he could have had a relationship with o'connor too and is looking to avenge his death with police authorities not some BS catholic faith nonsense he's talking about.

Ray is so calm and calculated. One of my favorite TV characters of all time.

He's a man of few words, but his presence is so strong.

Katie Holmes is looking good man, braces and all lol

Looks like Ray is working with Avi again next week!

Poor Terry. He's my favorite character on the show, even more so than Ray
