Dodge Challenger gets 640 horsepower supercharged engine 2014 vol. Da HEMI

you comparing a 3.7 liter v6 and a 5+ liter v8?

Engine displacement has nothing to do with "how special" an engine is. Im just saying that motor is very overrated and people who praise it like its something truly different or special only do so because of a lack of experience with "truly special' cars.

I equate it to the Cadillac Northstar motor in the 90s (an engine I still love btw).... not bad engines... both run smooth and plenty powerful for a DD. The Northstar absolutely killed the 90s with much praise awards just like the VQ in the 00s but both engines become mad unreliable once modded. These are engines basically tuned for the best balance between power and reliability straight from the factory. IMO a "special" engine is an engine that can hold well over 500 hp in factory form, do burnouts and drags all day at the track without detonation and then drive home cool as a fan. I.E Buick 3800 :smokin :smokin :smokin

VQ is aiight.... but its a motor marketed towards the sheepish masses that will never truly explore the limits of their cars or driving skill.

 What's this thing gonna weigh, 7000 pounds? 5.4MPG? What a joke

YOU SHUT YOUR DAMN MOUTH

Who cares if there's traffic or not? I dont hear this

Logic when people cop porsches, ferraris, & lambos..

When there's traffic no one can do anything.. When

There's open road you know why u spent da cake

For that big boy motor. :pimp:

Da logic of comparing those high end exotic cars to a dodge

Dodge has just as much history and pedigree as those other brands. Get your head out of Italy's ***.

No matter how many cars you drive/ride in, where you go to drive them, and how fast they go, theres NOTHING like driving muscle. Its an experience of its own.

Each car deserves its own respect.

You probably wouldn't compare this Challenger to a Ferrari, but you would have no problem comparing a GTR I assume?

I can compare a Honda Del Sol to a Ferrari if its got the bite to match the bark.

Da logic of comparing those high end exotic cars to a dodge
The output of these cars is no where near the price tags. Sure, it's 'prestige', but damn son, a murrican car will outperform these cars for almost half the price, what does that say about your precious italian import? I can't recall exactly, but I read somewhere that the new corvette outperformed the porsche and a lambo. Like lol wut

This thread sux now... blah blah this cars better than this one blah blah my engines blah I have more torque and less underblah. Drive what u like. End of story

Lol at the g37 bein trash tho and drivin an r/t

Your whip has worse interior than my 2000 eclipse gt did. To me... interior > drivetrain. You ccantstraddle da hemi while ur openin it up.

at the end of the day he has to abide by the speed limit just like the rest of us.

IM sure theres a state or country where you can drive the speed you desire.

i wasnt referring to performance though.

i was talking about the name and branding.

when you tell someone name me high end car brands, no one says "dodge"

and i like the challenger and OLDer american cars, so yall need to relax, getting bent out of shape over cars

Ok.. I feel you I was just complaining about modern car names the other day ... but this is kind of a modern phenomena ...

American cars have always been about individual Model names and in the past they had some of the most evocative names on the road. Most car companies make vehicles for the masses and release many many many more different models made for different peoples needs while Ferrari & Lamborghini only release a very small number of models per year and at an extremely limited run. Ferrari and Lambo also have a long history with the elite while American Cars are Viewed as a hard working persons attainable dream.

Grand Torino, Eldorado (Biarritz), Montecarlo, Barracuda, Grand National, Bonneville,Fleetwood (Brougham) Firebird (Trans American), Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis, El Camino, Caballero, DeVille (Delegance), Catalina, Parisienne... These are all defunct American vehicle names that "take you on vacation" :smokin :smokin :smokin

I totally agree that modern "Ferrari", "Lamborghini", "Porsche"... Even "Mercedes", are all name BRANDS (ie Make) that hold weight. IMO American companies started ******g up by changing all their historical vehical names to more european sounding acronyms and numbers. Monosyllabic demographic tat its finest :smh:

The Pontiac G8 is probably the car name that pisses me off the most of all... Ive had to pullout the smartphone on so many people that dont believe me when I say they made v6 G8s. Fools be like " its got 8 right in the name" >:

I mean... I think its an awesome car, but really? They couldnt think of ANYthing more creative ?

oh, guess you havent looked inside a 2012 interior... if you think thats trash then lol

and when i meant trash was engine and the look. taillights are one of the worst ive seen on the road. stop it

What type of man thinks an interior is more important than the drive train?

The man who cares less about performance and more about comfort in the car they'll be driving everyday. Let's not act like that's such a crazy preference.

There will always be people who don't care so much about the interior and more about performance and vice-versa. That debate will never end, its about preference at the end of the day.

There are a lot of "preferences" in this world that don't make a whole lot of sense to me and I guess this is just another one of them.
Supercharged Dodge Challengers Caught Testing In Death Valley
Despite being the biggest of the Big Three’s muscle car offerings, the Dodge Challenger remains the only one of the trio without a supercharged version. So despite being offered with an incredibly-powerful, 480 horsepower 6.4 liter HEMI engine, the big Mopar finds itself outgunned by the likes of the Shelby GT500 and the Camaro ZL1.

But that is all likely to change very soon, as we’ve heard a number of rumors that a supercharged version of the Challenger SRT8 is in the works. AutoCar heard the same rumors, and recently took pictures of what appears to be a supercharged “Hellcat” Challenger doing extreme heat testing in Death Valley.

Several supercharged prototypes were caught testing in the hottest place on Earth, and while they weren’t heavily camouflaged, engineers made sure to hide the important bits. Some camo hides what we assume is a new lower air intake, and a new exhaust design could hint at a looks refresh for the 2015 Challenger as well.

The supercharged version of the HEMI V8 should be good for well over 600 horsepower, though to compete with the ZL1 and GT500 it’ll probably need closer to 650 ponies to make up for its extra weight. Then there’s the question of the Challenger replacement, which should be coming in the next few years. If Chrysler is really ready to replace the Challenger, why give it this big power boost?

Is it a fond farewell, like the 2013-14 Shelby GT500, or an indication that the current model is here for at least a little longer? We likely won’t find out until next year, when the supercharged Challenger is set to make its world debut.
