When have they had the cap space to sign a superstar?
if a player wants to come to you...you make room... you do whatever it takes. Come on as great as a owner the lakers once had, trust and believe if a big time act wanted to come trust they would make the moves....

This is the same team that pulled highway robbery and got Gasol to come... I mean using that excuse pretty much ish on arguable one of the greatest gm/owners in bball

when was the last time the lakers had significant cap space, since shaq? i'll wait.

edit:

oh the players need to come out publicly and demand a trade to LA for LA to be a top destination again? ok.

Everyone going to the west after next year. The East about to be so trash
I doubt it but what will happen is one of two things....every one is gonna try to pull a Celtics/Heat move and get a big three, or some of the players especially the ones who looking for a big payday is gonna go to who ever paying.

I'm on record that the 2013-2014 Boston Celtics won't make the playoffs like the 2012-2013 Milwaukee Bucks did.

And my bro is a Celtics fan, so trust me I'm rooting for them and Rondo in private and outside of my Sixers of course.

 @ the convenient cap space excuse

Boston can put together a big 3 with role players that all want to play with each other... Miami can put together a big 3 with all kinds of role players and they all want to play with each other... but the only reason that's not happening with us is... cap space.

It's not that very few stars or significant role players welcome the thought of playing with Kobe; its cap space.

*thumbs up*

Lebrons not goin to the lakers.

Melo I can see it, he prob visited there once when he was younger so he can have a welcome home campaign.

On the upcoming season of LaLa's show, watch she gets some TV deal or something where she has to be in L.A. all the time and doesn't want to leave Melo in NY solo. Fast forward to Melo being in L.A. next season

Not sure what you're going for.

The Lakers haven't had to make room and do whatever it takes since Shaq was a free agent in 96. That was the last time they were in that position and they did just that. Ever since then they've basically had the stars they needed.

They didn't have room on their roster or under the cap to chase stars, and other stars didn't bother trying to join because they already had their featured players.

you act as if boston didn't luck into how good rondo and perkins were going to be during their championship run. people on here were talking like "all rondo needs to do is hit an open jumper, and perkins needs to grab rebounds". there was even a video posted on here that showed rondo losing to austin rivers in a jump shooting contest when rivers was in jr high or high school

miami was able to do that with cap space, but i guess that must be the exception.

people talk as if the lakers haven't won anything in a decade. the lakers were just in the finals 3 years ago. but hey, lets single out kobe. as if your boy ron artest didn't hit him up and say he wants to play with him to get a ring.

but hey, if its convenient for you.

lol exactly lakers, who arguably had the best ownership in the last few decades, cant sign a big time superstar because of cap space...yet new owners, hell owners who aint even from this country or no squat about bball can and has done it time and time again....

I mean la fans kill me, dudes up in here literally spitting on a great mans grave, all to save face on a sneaker sports forum. I don't know whether to commend them for iuno I guess in a backwards arzz way being a fan, or lol at the amount of foolishness and stupidity they say at times just as a die hard fan.

ya'll must be joking right?

lakers just went back to back 3 years ago. they haven't had to sign a big time player when they had the kobe in his prime. pau in his prime. and bynum coming into his prime (pre injury). what the **** are you guys talking about?

Which years did the Lakers have cap space to bring in big name FAs since 2000?

They are always way over the luxury tax

And they made 7 finals out of 10 (11?), why would they have started blowing things up to attract FAs when they were contending pretty much every season?

exactly. dont listen to shoelyssesesesseedess or whatever. pulling fake stats out, hating kobe, loving dwight,

lakers dont need cap space to sign people. they are the lakers they can do as they please. players just dont want to sign with them.

kobe's fault.

ron artest isn't a superstar....you basically saying lets see over the last few decades, barkley, prime rodman, pippen, dominque, a few others, tmac, LeBron, amare, melo, deron Williams, the list goes on...all really wanted to play for la, but it was because of cap space and them winning was the reason despite a lot of these guys went to teams that were winning..... Hell pippen/barkley went to a Houston team that recently won back to back chips...

Last big superstar who up and came to la was lew alcinder, and hell for awhile he was even pissed at the lakers.

Do you understand how the salary cap works? Teams are bound by a limit. Their moves are restricted once they're over the threshold. They can't just freely spend all the money they want.

Brooklyn was only able to add Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce because they already had existing salary on their books in the form of Kris Humphries, Gerald Wallace and some filler. Translation: horrible dumb transactions that they made in the past and were stuck with, but Boston was willing to take given the circumstances.

So how exactly are people spitting on the grave of Jerry Buss? **** outta here with that. You're the one "spitting on his grave" (figuratively, not literally, by the way) by using his name as a way to make yourself seem smarter than the Laker fanbase which you seem to hate.
