LA hunting for LeBron was first reported LAST year after the Dwight deal.

The focus of the report was all the cap space was available for LA in 2014, hence, the first summer that LeBron could opt out of his current deal. When Jim Buss was asked about it, he simply smiled, as if to say, oh, we hadn't thought of that.

Clearly, they had.

The idea however was to put LeBron next to Dwight. Now that that is gone, pairing Bron with Melo looks like their plan B.

Plan C would be just Melo.

Plan D is uh oh.

If Monta plays loser basketball then what do other born chuckers like J.R Smith and to an extent Jamal Crawford who dont have as wide of an offensive skillset as Monta play? Hes always gotten knocked because the teams he plays for are bad but I feel that he will flourish this year.

I mean those guys also play loser basketball but it's true that they've found a way to contribute as 6th men who can get yanked as soon as they start missing shots.

How does Monta play loser basketball? People weren't saying this when he actually had a good team in Golden State with Baron Davis, J-Rich, S-Jax, Barnes, Pietrus and all those dudes. When all them left he didn't have much other choice to chuck. You put him next to two other undersized, shoot first point guards in Jennings and Steph....that definitely wasn't gonna work out. Put him next to a great passer and spot shooter in Calderon, with really good defenders in Marion and Dalembert and an unselfish superstar in Dirk and I think that team can be really good.

He's a chucker and volume scorer who is small, shoots lots of jumpers, plays no defense, and contributes in no other meaningful way.

The Mavs have locked themselves into a perennial 6-10 seed for the next few years with their moves this summer.
Bingo. It was stupid. But I don't think they thought there was any benefit to short-terming contracts again and shooting for the moon again next offseason.

You've gotta have bodies for guys to want to come here. I don't hate the plan/idea, but I don't love doing this with Monta and Calderon at this point. Unless they can lure another legit star here next year, they're stuck somewhere in the 10-15 range in the draft again, which is completely useless.
Yeah, I don't think Carlise was going to coach a bunch of dudes in contract years again.

I'm really rooting for DJ Kennedy to make a team.

I used to have gym class with him, and had no idea he even hooped until I saw the City Championship team with him, Dejaun Blair, and Greg Blair on it.  It was like a Globetrotter game forreal

Schenley :nerd: DJs a good kid I hope he makes a team he could really contribute off the bench for a winning team. Brings a lot of intangibles just lacks some explosiveness.

who you is?

I'm not going to be able to take a whole year of bs Lebron to LA rumors. That man ain't going to help Kobe get his 6th ring. Not a chance in hell man

You dudes are talking out your *** about Monta. Probably seen a few nationally televised games of the dude and some SportsCenter highlights. You know the teams that wanted to sign him this summer? The Spurs and Mavs...probably the two smartest teams in the league. That says something.

90% of the league doesn't play defense. Few can score like Monta can.

The Mavs are a top 2 smartest team in the league?

monta is a solid player. gets a lot of criticism for playing on bad teams. steph wasnt ready when monta was balling, and that milwaukee situation was just horrible fit. he should never be a number 1 scoring option, but a really great complimentary role player. early in his gsw days with baron, the kid was super efficient. his midrange was on point and drive to the basket was one of the best. he played his role and was a really good player. just been on bad teams and had to try and do everything

Step one is to get Ellis to stop taking long, pull-up jumpers. For Ellis, those shots are like sweets for a fat kid. The Mavs can’t let Ellis keep reaching into the cookie jar.

The problem is Ellis launches a lot of those looks and doesn’t make very many. According to ESPN Stats and Information, he shot the lowest percentage on off-the-dribble jumpers in the league last season among players who took at least 250 of them, hitting a paltry 32.3 percent.

On a related note, Ellis also ranked last in the league among qualifiers in 3-point percentage (28.7 percent). Yet Ellis hoisted 328 of them, four per game.

No wonder Ellis shot just 41.6 percent from the floor last season, the second-lowest among players who averaged at least 15 points per game.

Ellis hasn’t always been so inefficient, but it’s a trend that has taken a drastic downturn in the last few seasons. He was actually once an extreme high-efficiency scorer, averaging 20.2 points on 53.1 percent shooting as a 22-year-old in 2007-08, when he attempted less than one 3-pointer per game.

You're getting closer. The difference bewteen those guys and Monta besides the fact that hes miles better than both is the fact that he rarely got to play on good basketball teams. A player like Monta needs to be on a team where he doesnt feel like he has to handle a giant scoring load. Thats not something an undersized two guard should have to deal with.

EXACTLY. IDK where this Monta slander has stemmed from but its way off base.

Um...yeah. One of the best coaches and owners in the league and an unselfish team-first superstar. People were surprised that they spent this money on Monta and such because of how smart they've been with their money over the years. They knew they did all they could with that team a couple years ago so they cut bait with them even though they just won a championship. They wanted to save money to shoot for the stars but it didn't work so they did what they could.

This is will all be resovled by not playing for the Bucks. Lets be serious its a basketball graveyard currently, with the proper coaching and utilization of his skillset, his numbers will make a steady climb upward. I've seen what Monta Ellis can do, and I still think he has it in him.
