He's a bit too small to consistently get buckets in the playoffs. Guys like Thabo, Tony Allen, Russ Wess give him fits and it'll always be that way. Until Blake Griffin can become THAT guy, the clips will be hit or miss in the playoffs. I do however have them going far in the playoffs this year
just not necessarily because of paul's ability as a number one scoring option though.
Rose? Same with Paul. Won't win much with Him as your number one scoring option. Buckets are too hard to get with him as your number one option. You can put guys like Wade, James, PG, on him and boom, he's nullified into a high volume chucker.
I think Harden can potentially be a number one option, especially since he now has a top tier running mate. The roster the rockets had last year wasn't a playoff team to me, and because he got them in there says a lot about his capacity to be a top tier number one option. But as it stands, he's still unproven in that regard.
This is the reason why I think Melo is a great number one option and just needs a legit running mate. The questions surrounding Rose, Paul, are not there with Melo. He's going to fill it up and nothing will change about that.
its crazy how much you search to find, then over-analyze any type of weakness in anyone elses game-- then completely ignore the fact that melo has plenty.
otherwise you do make fair points, and i do agree that in the regard of putting the ball in the bucket...melo is only behind kd and lebron.
but that's not the only thing a number one option does. he is responsible for the entire flow of the offense; all 5 players on the court. it's the reason why lebron was (arguably) the best player in the league even before he became an extremely efficient jump-shooter. you have got to know when to turn it on and then when to get your teammates involved and make the right pass. you have to have the poise to not get rattled when you dont get a few foul calls. you cant ignore your teammates to jack up 'heat check' shots when youre getting double teamed. when your jumper isn't falling, you've got to find a way to take it to the bucket and make the point to get to the line. you've got to be a team player, on both ends of the court.
now there may not be many players who can't put the ball in the hoop like melo....but there's damn sure a few that do those things better.
if i'm a gm ...
lebron, kobe, kd, dik, cp3, rose, harden, duncan,
all guys that have both ability and character to be the #1 over melo
dont get me wrong..hes a great player, and shown growth in these areas lately. but hes not gettin any younger...
oh and one more thing....defense?
