Orlando did the basketball equivalent which was sign or youre getting traded. Handled poorly by Orlando. All he wanted to do was play out that year and then leave. Orlando said no were not letting you playout this year unless you opt into next year. Well he had that back injury, and all was downhill from there. The guy thought they had a chance at winning that year and he wanted to play that year without having to commit for another year. Orlando wasnt getting Lebroned. Dont get me wrong, Dwight did himself no favors. As far as the Lakers go Im sure youre more informed than I am, but he had every right to leave, LA knew what they were getting themselves into. LeBron completely screwed over his team with no ***** given, but thats another conversation.

I see where your coming from but Orlando was looking out for themselves in that situation as any organization would. If he wasn't going to sign the extra year they had every right to trade him before the deadline and salvage something.

If they chose to sit him regardless if he was healthy or not out of spite, I can't really cosign that but being realistic even if they deactivated him he was getting a max deal somewhere regardless last offseason but that was probably a scare tactic, if anything they would've traded him.

Regarding his time on the Lakers, it was just subtle stuff and a lackadaisical attitude from Dwight most of the season.

For as talented as he was, with the exception of butthurt Kobe Stans who are moreso Kobe fans then Laker fans, the overall indifference shown in the reaction from most people I know is a sign to me.

Like I said before, going off of Dwight's past history (he was well aware of the negative flip flopping reputation he's developed and he could've been more vocal to do damage control). I wouldn't be shocked if things aren't peaches and cream in 2 years from now in Houston and if that isn't the last team he plays for in his prime. One way or another, if things were to go bad in Houston for him I think at that time it would be safe to assume what the problem is.

Because even when he "doesn't care" he's a walking double double

That really matter when the Lakers getting swept in the 1st round of the playoffs and he gets ejected in the close out game? You're not winning a championship with Dwight as your #1 or 2 option, defensive rebounds and blocks aside.

Lmao, dwight as the only option led his team to a ship, now he cant win as a number 2 option. How quickly they forget.

No I agree with that, but letting him go for who? That's the real question. He's easily top 7-8-as far as big men go IMO. That's a major building block you can't just give away or lose for nothing in the future

True, I definitely would have traded him at the deadline this past season if I was LA, their over confidence led to them walking away empty handed

While I'm sure part of it was overconfidence, I'm sure behind the scenes the prospects of trading him at the deadline were discussed. The reality is they would've never got decent value at the deadline and sometimes letting a player walk is better then taking on another teams expendables to try and save face.

I dont blame orlando for doing what they did, theyre future is looking bright because of it. But it wasnt like dwight was put in a simple situation, he would have done the same exact thing lebron did had orlando played the cleveland role. I see things working out in hosuton, trying to put the favorite team bias aside, he wants to be there, he has a young kid on the verge of becoming a superstar, a coach who can work with him directly and knows how to get the ball in the post where dwight wants it, and a mentor in Hakeem. Hes int he perfect situation for happiness now, if this doesnt work out, Ill agree that he is the problem, lol.

who cares what option is he is, if the team is winning? i swear that whole number 1/2 option thing is media driven more than anything. if the team is winning, the media starts rumbling about how X player isn't doing it as the number 1. they do anything to discredit you. that's when it gets into the players head because it pokes at their egos

Lmao, dwight as the only option led his team to a ship, now he cant win as a number 2 option. How quickly they forget.

Dwight was the only option on that Magic team? Seriously? They had shooters like Seal team 6 and SVG coaching them to perfection, Dwight still had no offensive game he was just a rebounding and defensive god during that run.

This is also true, we'll never know what kind of offers they got but at the same time you gotta think they got atleast a couple of reasonable offers

You do know he didn't come to Houston to be the number 2 option.. Right?

This as well. And if harden continues to improve which he probably will considering he's only 23/24, who knows if those egos clash somewhere down the line. Harden might be cool taking a step backwards now but lets see how they play together.

While its a great move signing him, its not on the level of Miami getting lebron, or the celtics forming their big 3 in 07 where those moves made me feel like the balance of power was shifting.

All that said. Anyone looking forward to Kobe and Dwight possibly being reunited at the All star game in February lmao

As far as number 1,2,3 options go. Yes, that team was a bunch of scrubs who could shoot and do nothing else.

And Dwight was a guy who could rebound, block and dunk. I'm not discounting his defensive and rebounding prowess at all but he has never been an offense weapon except in that situation.

If a center doesnt know how to play defense, he will abuse him. See Big Z. Lebron had the perfect series and they still lost in 6.

Hope the Lakers play Houston at Staples when Kobe is healthy

Christmas Day. Lakers Rockets at staples

Kobe makes his return. NBA its fantastic, all cameras on the potential Kobe/Dwight pregame handshake or snub.

On a side note, the Lakers/Rockets rivalry is back. While the whole Lakers/Heat thing was individual player based Kobe/Shaq. Kobe/Lebron but wasn't a real rivalry because they never met in the finals. The Lakers and Rockets have had some battles over the years. Rockets upsetting the Lakers in the playoffs the only times they didn't go to the finals in the 80's. a few battles in the 90's, and then 04 and 09.

Factor in the Kobe/Dwight animosity and if the Lakers get back on track quicker then expected this could be good.

Best part of the article isn't the fact that other Lakers players would tell Kobe about Dwight's shenanigans.. Which shows you who had more fans in the locker room.

But the fact he wanted Phil, but wanted to avoid criticism... Mike D'Antoni is the most sarcastic human being ever, but he treated Dwight with kid gloves... Phil would have openly crushed his spirit.

Dwight wanted everyone to love him, and I get that desire. But the second he left Orlando to play in the big lights (whether NY his first choice or LA), and then left LA because they wouldn't hold back on criticism.. It only 100% confirms the person everyone knows him to be.

You just said if a center doesn't know how to play defense, basically solidifying my arguement. I get it, you're a Houston fan but even they understand his limitations which is why they are surrounding him with shooters and hopefully he succeeds with Harden in the pick and roll which Beard is a master at.

I know he has limitations, I never said dude was Hakeem in the post. But to say he cant even be so much as a number 2 option on a championship team is ridiculous.

Go back and read Woj's article... There are many reasons, but the biggest came through expectations, demand.

Just like Magic fans and casual observers warned LA last year.... You'll get those same warnings.
