Kanye's Vanity vol. The Politics of Black Self-Love

Very serious. Drake makes better music than 80% of the stuff on Kanyes last 3 albums.

Not really feeling the "new" Kanye either. I'm all for evolution. It doesn't always work tho *insert kanye shrug*

to a certain extent, i feel it.

black people really aren't allowed to be too eccentric idealogically or politically.

dressing weird is about as independent as a black celebrity is allowed to be before everyone hates them for being so different.

I am actually saddened to see what he has become.  College Dropout is still one of my favorite albums, but the arrogance and decline in his music is clearly showing.  Every time I see a picture or video of Kanye now he never has a smile on his face and always looks like he is angry and bitter.

Kanye has been arrogant from day one

Stop spitting out bs. No he hasn't.

He only recently (Amber Rose era) became this "a-hole" but at the same damn time, he isn't much different than other "normal" human beings who act the same way.

I'm tired of the heat and hate he gets. People don't even give him a chance

When i first read the tracklist and saw I Am A God

I was legit laughing hard as hell my exact words were "Man I Cant deal with this ****** ego, is he even serious"

It's just sad that everyone is laughing at him for recognizing his God within, when you could be doing the same thing.

Kanye isn't stupid. I listened to this album about 4 times thoroughly now and it's not junk or jibberish, by far.

so you mean to tell me you read the tracklist, and then talked to yourself about another man? Yea Kanye is definitely the one with problems here.

I understand where the article is coming from. It makes good points, but it screams college essay. Also it was slightly poorly written in that you should never have questions towards the end of your argument/essay/article. His thesis statement should not be in the form of a question at the end.

“Laughing to keep from crying” is a tone that captures so much of both of their work, but it’s also a survival mantra. Originating with Langston Hughes, this expression encapsulates a history of black artists who have used wit and satire to capture their exasperations and make light of the world’s absurdities. .

I like the parallels he draws in this full paragraph, and I can relate to this particular part. Thanks for sharing OP

Black people cant be gods though. Were slaves. Let white Jesus tell it. They brought us over here, gave us a white god to enslave our minds along with our bodies and have us thinking they're THE god and if we EVER try to claim it, were either crazy or a radical. They dont even need chains anymore. Our minds are enslaved. We arent and can never be godly because, obviously Jesus is white.

New slaves.

Kanye's crazy.

Can't bump Yeezus?

Get with the times folks.

He dropped gems all over this album.

He even threw a throwback track on the back end of the album.
Really? All over the album tho? He had a few hot lines tops. All the other **** is garbage.
Please tell me where the gem was in the song you posted, Bound, which is one of the best songs on the album. The beat was throwback Kanye. But where did he say something spectacular, that couldnt easily be put together with a rhyming dictionary, in this song?

Ya'll dont understand. And I'm not saying that to be cliche, but son is just going over a lot of peoples heads with this consciously, but he really ******g with you subconsciously. He ******g with America.

Bound 2 is a track just to say "I haven't lost it. I can still do it, but that's not the point of this album."

The album is a statement moreso than "music" for your entertainment. And I put music in quotes because it's obviously music, but not the type of music you want to think it is.

You think he did the cover like that on accident? It's minimal on everything BUT lyrics. And no so much lyrics as him being a "lyricist", per say, but lyrics as in the content of what he's saying.

Cmon Seeko. I usually rock with most of the things you say but cmon man.
I listened to the album SEVERAL times. Read the lyrics SEVERAL times.

Context of what he's saying? Kanye aint talkin bout nothin fam.
The first verse he talks about a chick in the club and starts explaining his rep to her, which turns into them on vacation and the last 4 lines were just to end the verse. Second verse he talks about what he wants to do to her, then (insert hot line) about Jerome, back to talkin bout his rep followed by him questioning whether or not him and the girl will even make it. Ends the song by reciting Martin's character's famous catch phrase.

Where was the statement? What was the context?
I know I understand words, so how am I not understanding these words right just because Kanye said em?

My man, the album sucked. Doesnt matter what subconscious message he was trying to portray. bad music = bad music. The only statement I got from the album was "My name is Kanye, and it doesnt matter what I put out anymore, it will still sell". I rock with MBDTF and some of his early albums, but this is trash, IMO

Kanye West is not some type of misunderstood genius. He is a talented dude who happens to be regarded as an *******. There is a weird obsession with him on NT I have never seen anywhere else. From his music to his personal life, everything that happens in his life is posted here, and those threads are very popular. Its bizarre to me

lol @ the excuses for this techno pop hot garbage album
If you don't like it that's cool
But to seriously sit here and not see this dude has been saying alot of the same stuff since day one and his beats started to change with "Stronger" and you want the "polo" Ye back
Then go buy his old albums
I like it for what it is, call me a Stan don't care
All statements like the one I quoted
