The Worlds's Ten Worst Public Transit Systems

BART is cool, but I really wish it would run later. Sucks hitting the spots out there and then having to pay a cab back or crash somewhere cause it stops running so early

:smh: been saying this **** for years. How ******g dope is BART on NYE when you ride the train from the club/bar? Just have it run 24 it's not like they wouldn't make a obscene amount of money lol

Only gripe I have about LACMTA (LA Metro) is the rail system. Bus service is great to mem just get rid of that trash silver line that replaced the Freeway Express Lines.

We have TWO subway lines and technically it's one, the other is a short trip that ends in Hollywood from DTLA :smh:

They're extending the new Expo Line to the beach though from DTLA so that's good. Green Line is pointless and the blue line is perfect. The Gold Line is being extended from Pasadena to Montclair then to Redlands. Only thing is local bus service suffers because of the rail extensions.

Hell I should work in transit planning since I know so much about it

Unlike some public transit systems with multiple sets of tracks on the same routes, BART doesn't have the duplication that would allow us to run trains on one set while performing maintenance on another. Third-rail power has to be shut down for maintenance crews to be able to operate safely and do the work that keeps the system safe and reliable. And the trains can’t run when the power is down.

Mpls doesn't surprise me one bit. The train stops before bar close. So no reason to take it to the club. Plus a major hub is mall of america which they already covered. We don't go there... Not enough trains and it doesn't run late enough. That's the major downfalls. Whoever said it was crazy mpls is on the list is fried. You ever used dc's or Chicago's? That's how they all should be. I don't even know DC and I never got lost.

Point well taken, but how can people combat such a poor infrastructure with a large population?

Your from europe right? Hungrary right? What do they do to pacify a situation like this?

Excellent question. I'M guessing leaders in INdia are wondering the same thing. Due to the high cost and the large usage of the system it'll be difficult to make big changes. I suppose it can only be the result of a slow change, which will hopefully turn the country's infrastructure safer and more user friendly, especially considering the fact, that India is supposed to surpass China as the most populated country in the world, in a few decades. SO its a massive challenge.

As for here in Europe, I'm kind of surprised none of these public transport systems were mentioned in the area. Yes, that's were I reside. In Hungary, the only problem is that most of the vehicles are outdated, no AC on most buses and big problems during the winter when the weather drops below -5. But slowly progress is made and its coming to be on par with systems in Berlin or Vienna (which I think are great), however the biggest current problem I think is the price, which is extremely high, when compared to local wages. In BUdapest average gross salary is about 12000$ and a public transport ticket is 1.55$ (0.0129 %), whereas in the USA average income is 50 000$ and a ticket is 1.50$ (LA) (0.003%) to 2.25$ (NYC) (0.0045%), so the difference is substantial. In India the ratio would be an income of 1219$, whilst a ticket is 10 and 17 cents, yes I did not misspell, cents (0.0139 %)! And this does show that Hungary is still much closer in these terms to the developing India than the developed USA, although some may believe it is the opposite way around.

Man I'm shocked dc ain't on the list. Shout out to my city. Guess I'll be definitely taking my car with me to cali since los angeles metro is garbage

The Red Line ends in NORTH Hollywood though, on the other side of the Hills in the Valley, so it's hardly a short trip. The Red Line/Orange Line combination is a pretty effective way to get to the city from the Valley.

Obviously the author of this article has never been to West Palm Beach let alone South Florida because the public transportation down here is easily top 5 worst ever. the Palm tran is way too slow, ( you could pass a bus stop with people waiting then pass the same bus stop 2 hours later and still see the same people waiting for the bus. plus if you want to go somewhere that usually take 20 mins by car, it will take you at least 4 HOURS if you take the palm tran. yeah it's that bad), and the tri rail is a absolute joke. and I heard that broward county and dade county is no better when it comes to public transportation. so basically if you ain't got a car in Florida, you're pretty much stuck where you at.

I rather ride my bike then to ride palm tran

3500 deaths a year? WTF?

DC metro is fine by me.

Word.

Those numbers are CRAZY.

My only gripe with DC Metro is that those corrupt son of a ******* CONSTANTLY raise fare (or discuss raising fare) and **** hasn't really improved.
