Anyone check out Mayer Hawthorne's new album on NPR Music? Upon first listen, this might be better than his other two albums. He's going back to the Old School Soul roots with a little bit of hip hop. His first two singles "Her Favorite Song" and "Reach Out Richard" were on point.

Here's the Link to listen early on NPR and Tracklist below.

The Only One

are my favs right now

Pharrell lent quite a hand on this album. I been bumping this nonstop since yesterday. I wish there could have been at least 1 slow burner on this album. Still very very solid none the less.

is it weird that I can picture Pharrell singing the hook on Reach Out Richard? seems like the type of song he would do. after hearing Her Favorite Song and Reach out richard, i'm definitely a fan of this dude

Man when I first heard "Her Favorite Song"... :smh:

That **** is ridiculous (plus one of my favorite drumbreaks was used for it).

Even my 50+ year old supervisor was like "who is this? I like this joint".

I'm really not a fan of today's R&B but based on that song and what you all are saying in this thread... I might just have to check this out.

Stars are Out sounds like it's straight off a N.E.R.D. album

Pharrell did his thing on here.

Wouldnt be surprised if he's doing some of those backup vocals

I'm gonna miss Motown Mayer Hawthorne, but I'm diggin the new ChroMayer Hawthorne

How did Designer Drug not get on the album?! Wow.

Album seems like a Hawthorne album. Little bit of fast and some slow. Wish he did more soul type joints but i got to give this album more of a listen still.

I was wondering the same thing. Apparently it's on the bonus disc along with some other songs.

My guess would be it doesn't fit in with the story he's trying to tell in his whole record. Very solid album, had Crime on repeat all day yesterday.

I'm 4 songs in and so far so good. I'm still surprised more people don't know about this guy. His live show is :pimp:

Designer Drug is on the Deluxe Edition of the album... cant wait to get a hard copy on tuesday

I like it. But I did like the Motown sound a little better. I feel like this album will grow on me once I get it. This just shows you how versatile Mayer is.

Back Seat Lover
The Innocent
Wine Glass Woman
Her Favorite Song
Reach Out Richard
Corsican Rosé
The Stars Are Ours

ran through the album earlier today... these were my favorites off one listen :smokin

I have a feeling pharrell was in the studio for every track. Just has his personal touch on every song.

I like it, it's totally different from his last album.

I love large professor, but I'm glad they took him off the track, it just seemed forced and it didnt fit.

I haven't tuned into NPR lately, because I haven't had homework ( about to be a college Freshman :nthat: ). I definitely missed a gem. It's just so soulful and the fact that pharrell produced makes it even better. Are his priors worth checking out?
I love Allie Jones and the smooth "woohwoooh" ad lib. Very clean feel to the whole album. I wasn't even 5 songs into the album before I realized this guy was a force to reckon with.

Good work by Mayer. Kendrick Lamar seems so out of place on Crime. Not sure why he was there lol

Pharrell's sound on the album sounded good as well.

I heard Reach Out Richard, gonna check out the album just on the strength of that.

Song is like a classic Steely Dan vibe :pimp:

Will be checking on this.  How Do You Do was one of my favorite albums in the last few years.

I have been missing out for the last couple of years man.....

Listening to How Do You Do right now and it is awesome. Really great feel good music (honestly making studying for this test go a little bit easier ).

Will check out the new album later.
