MonsterVerse Thread = Godzilla VS Kong : Out Now On HBO MaX & Theaters

Just came back from watching the film...it was a tadbit lackluster :smh:

They tried to force the human element on you so much. Cranston's role is to try and engage you but I just didn't care. Aaron Taylor-Johnson is a robot in some scenes and Liz Taylor's scenes evoke some emotion but still blah.

The CGI was pretty good for what it's worth but could've been much better. To its credit some of the scenes are breathtaking especially when Godzilla first appears in the big screen but the draw out to the final battle is not polished and the final battle is over so quick it makes you wonder why Godzilla didn't use his go to move in the beginning and save himself and everyone else the trouble and destruction...

Lol I love how critics are hyping this film too. :smh:

Just saw it
I liked it
ONLY thing is I didn't care about the people in it
Wanted to see more monster fighting
But I am pleased with the result
Next Godzilla might be more fighting since they ain't gotta explain everything

Aaron Taylor shouldnt be in a role that forces him to express emotions too much. He's always sucked at it.

Kinda disappointed in his role

Aaron Taylor shouldnt be in a role that forces him to express emotions too much. He's always sucked at it.

Only thing I've ever seen him in is Kick-*****, based on that, I thought he did a pretty good job. Didn't seem like the same actor at all to me.

Movie was ok. Visually it was fantastic. All that open water with Godzilla swimming in it :wow:

But the story itself was ehhhhhh, don't want to comment too much, I still enjoyed it, the story was just super lacking.

Is the 98 version on Netflix by any chance? I kind of want to watch it now, haven't watched it since 98 when I was 11.

I really enjoyed this film...watched in 3D. Don't really understand the hate. I really like how majority of the scenes of Godzilla were from the human perspective. CGI was legit as expected and Godzilla had human element to him in it, easily attached to what he represented.

Saw it tonight, thought it was good. Got chills the first time you see fully Godzilla and hear the roar lol

lot of mixed reviews...soo I'm planning to watch it on IMAX with my girl, is it worth the money? or should I head to a regular movie theater?

Went in with no expectations and was still disappointed.

For a movie of it's magnitude there were no memorable moments. None. Nada. Zilch.. ok maybe except...
The two atomic breath scenes

other than that the movie just seemed like a giant blur.

I didn't feel attached to any of the characters except Cranston's
and he gets offed so early

besides his death didn't even seem important throughout the movie.
CGI was on-point tho.

Not enough fight scenes.

The plot sucked.
The military's tactics made absolutely no sense.
"yea lets just carry this nuclear warhead through a heavily populated city!"

Movie was a 4/10 for me.

Now that I think about it.. I prefer Pacific Rim over this disappointment.
came here to post my thoughts but you already did it for me. i agree with absolutely everything said.
HOW ARE YOU GONNA KILL OFF BRYAN CRANSTON BEFORE WE EVEN SEE GODZILLA?!
Godzilla showed more emotion than the kick *** kid. like.. if the two were up for an award Godzilla would win hands down over him...a cgi monster.

the best part of the movie was the atomic breath. which you could eventually see in a 20 second youtube clip. and why did he wait so long to conjure it up?

the only thing i liked about the movie aside from the 20 minutes of bryan cranston and the atomic breath was the fact Godzilla was good. and i dont know if i liked it because i liked it or because every other character in the movie sucked.

if we went to war with the military in this movie wed lose to Kazakhstan led by Borat.

and how did Godzilla go from destroying the other monster in the ocean to bein laid out on the rubble in the middle of the city?

laughed out loud with the audience every time the japanese scientist said Godzilla.

again WHY WOULD YOU KILL OFF BRYAN CRANSTON THAT QUICK? if he was the lead character my opinion of this movie would be very different.

Cinematography was great. Movie was good, did Godzilla justice. Needed more Godzilla fighting ! it's a Godzilla movie, cmon, that's what he does..

The movie uses a lot of POV type angles during the monster scenes to really try and convey the size/scope of everything that was going on. So because of that, i would recommend an IMAX size screen to truly do it justice. Also, hearing the roar in IMAX audio is :wow:

The 3D was meh, but I was already expecting that. The main draw for me seeing it in IMAX was for the audio...sound quality in movies is too underrated these days.

I'll post more thoughts on the movie tomorrow. Overall, I thought the movie was good, but it didn't meet my skyhigh expectations...it was probably my most anticipated movie of the year besides Interstellar (and speaking of interstellar...BRUH THAT TRAILER!).

Think they showed a mothra toy when the crantson family was in Japan

Was really hyped on this film, but was really disappointed. Story was very lackluster..

Edit- it wasn't a toy, but there was a sign in their home in japan that said "mothra". Forgot which scene though

Damn some of you be too critical. The plot is really sketchy. Ya I understand that. But....

SPOILER

The cgi was great. There wasn't a lot of fights scenes, but the final big fight scene was bad ***. That tail whip on that muto mofo left him straight murkeddd. And the atomic breath was epic too.

Went in without any expectations, just wanted something better than the previous film, & a lot of the spoiler posts speak my thoughts dead on for me to say the least. Was not impressed AT ALL with this film.

Exceeded expectations for me personally.

Tough to bring something like this to life and not be corny. Really enjoyed it and thought it paid homage to parts of the OG story. Besides his initial appearance (which was fantastic), I thought the scientist's first utter of Ko-Chilla' was awesome. Just like the old japanese versions.

Just came back
Freakin' loved it

Ditto. I think that it was lacking a little character depth, but that was ok, the majority of the movie was explaining Godzilla's story and how the masses (and the characters) would react to it. I thought they did an excellent job of slow-burning the introductions to the monsters/Godzilla and it made for a very satisfying payoff.

Also, the extra $ isn't really worth it, there's no objects-flying-by-you, just a depth thing. And see it in IMAX, I didn't and wish that I had.

Yo can anyone tell me if they show or tease mothra?

Yes. Mothra's name is written in a glass dome in Ford's room when him and Heisenberg go visit the old house. My bot pointed this out to me after the movie. I didn't actually see it.

Shameless plug...I recently started a movie review Instagram page @Rawreviews if anyone is interested.

Was just ok. Like a lot of people are saying, not enough Godzilla and I didn't feel any connection with the human characters, especially Ford.
