Reminiscent of the original waffle runner that launched Nike, the Free Hyperfeel is the company's latest minimalist runner inspired by the actual geometry of the body. Which, if you'll recall, is something Under Armour addressed with its bra-like Speedform.

In creating the Free Hyperfeel, Nike says its research lab rats used pressure-mapping tech and high-speed cameras to study the foot in motion to build a better running shoe. This research led to a simple low-profile shoe with cushioning and traction only where it's needed that gives the runner more response and control. The waffle outsole was "reengineered with strategically placed pistons, reflecting key pressure points."

The materials used were also meant to replicate certain parts of the foot. For instance, the articulated drop-in Lunarlon insole was used to mimic the cushion-y bits under the foot, while providing even more range of motion. The super thin waffle outsole on the other hand is meant to replicate the "hardened skin" on the soles of your feet. It's also basically non-existent in that you can roll the shoe up like a fruit roll-up with the insole removed. That's how thin it is.

All of that is pulled together using Nike's Flyknit upper for structure and fit, which brings the number of components down to seven from 57.

$175 for a sock with a sole on it...come on now...

They prob feel amazing, but I'll pass until that price gets a little more reasonable

May be in for the volt/black color if they feel THAT NICE, at $175 though I will think long & hard first.

Intriguing. When I first saw these, I thought they were a trainer not a runner. It has three of Nike's signature techs involved; Lunar, Free and Flyknit, which is pretty damn dope! What I'd like to know is their "Free Scale" # (i.e. 1.0).

Totally not my thing and I will not be buying any pairs, but...

I love love love this from Nike. I love pushing the boundaries. I love the combination of all the top tech. I loved the Studio Wrap. I sure as **** don't do barre, and I'm sure as **** not a girl, but I loved the concept. I appreciate that there is thinking going on that's outside the box. Nothing conservative about it.Sometimes that means a shoe will flop (Nike basketball's Elite line hasn't necessarily been a complete flop but... you get the point.). When the first Yeezy was announced, I wasn't in love with the design, but I was in love with the idea of getting a pair because it was being pushed as the very best from NSW. If this is the best that the brand can do from a design and materials stand point, then dammit I want a pair (still on the lookout... :smh: ). I want to see what the very best is like. Now, I would never actually wear these Hyperfeels, so I won't be dropping $175 on them, but I'm excited to see what the very best is like. And since these are performance shoes, I'm intrigued to see how they perform. Sure, they might not be top of the line from a purely aesthetic perspective, but the Yeezy's wouldn't be either without Ye's name attached to them.

Apologies for the essay. It's been a long day.

My $.02

these are OK, but I prefer the look of the free flyknit better. Will need to try them on to see how they feel though.

Love these. Definitely want the 3M pair. They're pricey at $175. Nike's gotta be careful with that, since the Flyknit Ones didn't sell all that well at $160. However, knowing Nike, they'll make the first batch of these uber-limited, thus inflating demand.

Man, almost $200 with so lil componentry. Insane but interesting nonetheless.

One of those shoes that will look horrible in pants unless it is skinny jeans. These seem more function then fashion....which for the right person is a good thing.

This does seem like an alternative to the vibram 5fingers, curious how low it is and if it can be a good pair for lifting.

This colorway will be copped. Can't wait to try these out. Looks like a great shoe.

I was thinking these would be a great work out shoe. Looked really low profile and minimal. But that lunar insole is pretty thick.

So what is the difference between these and the Free-Knit? Is it basically do you want free cushioning or lunar cushioning? Even though the Flyknit 1 lunar is lunar based...these are a more minimal lunar base?

Not too sure what would make me buy one over the other.....if i could get these for $100 id try them out...but i think the free-knit will be purchased first.

The sole is one of the main difference, the waffle-free sole is very thin in comparison. The lunar insole also has ridges to it contours to your foots movement better. I think this will have a much closer to the ground feel. Will have to try them on though to be sure.

You can see here that there is practically no midsole on these:

So i may be right in assuming these could be my new work out shoes. Can do cardio still and they are really close to the ground so should be good for Dead Lifts and squats? Just assuming they are closer to the ground then the Frees, i would love a free knit 3.0. But these may fill that void
