DC Studios THREAD - GunnVerse Begins - Chapter ONE: Gods & Monsters

What comic films/characters HAVE you liked?

Because I've yet to see you say a single positive thing about any film we talk about in these comic threads.

Like I said before, you're always clocking my posts. Pay attention this time.

-Blade
-Blade II
-The Amazing Spider Man
-Punisher (2004)
-Hellboy
-Hellboy II: The Golden Army
-The Incredible Hulk
-Thor
-300
-Iron Man

Comic movies have been more miss than hit. Its not a good genre and there more unlikeable movies than there are good ones. Add to that the fact that many haven't aged well i.e. the Spider Man trilogy.

Makes more sense now. You like all the ones that aren't "superhero" more of the graphic novel types. Blade, Hellboy, 300, that **** don't even belong in the same category.

TAS, Thor, TIH, and IM is all that really falls under the same umbrella as these others. Now I get why you hate on everything else.

Fair enough, you're just going to talk **** about every movie that comes out, I got it.

Kinda late, but I was surprised as anyone about the announcement last night. I really don't know what to expect at this point. Definitely have mixed feelings about it. I want the film to succeed as Bats is my favorite hero. But doubts begin to set in when you realize that they're moving out of the safe zone (Bale) and into an entirely different path (Affleck).

I've always trusted Nolan, and I'm not really sure about how big his part is in the sequel but if he had a say in casting Affleck then I guess I'd have to wait this one out before casting judgement. Anyways, all of this is still just too unreal to me.

Probably he'll speak with a plain accent as Bruce Wayne and then as Batman hits us with the heavy Boston accent.

"I want yah to 'membah, Clahk... in all the yeahs to come... in yah most pahivate moments... I want yah to 'membah mah hand... at yah thoat... I want yah to 'membah...
Thah one man who beat yah..."

Lol I'm imagining the plot will have something to do with lexcorp and Wayne industries doing business together maybe the introduction of kryptonite....

Ben Affleck Has Begun Training to Become Batman

Though production on "The Untitled Zack Snyder Super Hero Film," which is what the studio is currently calling the Superman/Batman movie, won't begin production until sometime next year, actor Ben Affleck has already started getting in shape for the role. US Weekly reports that the actor is spending two hours a day in the gym to get his physique ready for the role, and if it's anything like stars Henry Cavill and Antje Traue's work outs, it is pretty intense.

It was announced last night that Affleck will take on the iconic role in the Zack Snyder-directed film. In addition, Man of Steel's Henry Cavill will reprise his role as Superman in the film along with co-stars Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane.

The new film is being scripted by David S. Goyer from a story he co-created with Zack Snyder. Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder are producing, with Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan and Wesley Coller serving as executive producers. It is scheduled to hit theaters on July 17, 2015.

This "outrage" is rediculous. This whole damn world loves to judge everything before its even given a chance. I'm not the biggest fan of Ben but its clear lately that he's become a great actor.

People need to stop bringing up stupid Daredevil jokes as a reference. There's 300 movies Heath did that were stupid, but he was and always will be the perfect Joker.

Whose to say Ben can't pull it off?

Jesus. People cry and whine about everything. No matter who was castes you dudes woulda still been unhappy.

Face it. Anyone except Bale was gonna get a bad reaction. They were in a lose lose situation. If Bale doesn't want 60 million dollars what the hell you want them to do? Offer a billion?

Gotta move on and cast someone who can act and Ben can.

Relax and let some damn production begin before you throw a fit and start punching walls mean.gif

don't know how to feel about ben as batman. if ben flops though, he not only will take down the batman franchise but the re-launch of the superman franchise. that pressure.

Pay attention this time.

I agree with this. Even if you forget the past and start with the Spiderman and Blade Trilogies that started this comic craze:

Blade I
Blade II
Spiderman 2
Amazing Spiderman
The Incredible Hulk
X-Men First Class (Don't judge me)
Batman Returns
Dark Knight
Dark Knight Rises
Iron Man
Captain America
I didnt know 300 was a comic but I will include it if you say so.

The rest are split into okay(Thor, Avengers, Spiderman) and terrible(the rest of the X-Men cinematic universe, Spiderman 3)

Of course, that's the only chance Batman has of winning so I'm expecting an intro.

The only chance Batman has of winning is teaming up with Lexcorp to manufacture Kryptonite?
Las I checked he walked around with Kryptonite before he could synthesize it and he synthesized it without Lexcorp

From a business point of view...

Why Warner Bros. Had To Pick Ben Affleck To Play Batman

The Batman / Superman movie will star Henry Cavill as Supes and Ben Affleck as Batman.
Ben Affleck is Batman.

For the fans of the Dark Knight, comic books, movies, superheroes, or entertainment in general, it's all any one is talking about.

Memories of Affleck's portrayal of 2003's "Daredevil" have been fiercely flying around the Internet, leaving many fans worried and confused.

How could a guy who so poorly played a superhero the last time around be chosen for one of the biggest and most loved superhero roles out there?

Consider that after stomaching George Clooney as Batman and odd nippled leather suits, Batfans finally had the envisionment of the hero they wanted with Christian Bale. The new dynamic duo was not Batman and Robin, but Christian Bale and Christopher Nolan (plus David S. Goyer and Jonathan Nolan).

No longer. Affleck and Snyder are in, Christian Bale and Nolan are out. For fans, Affleck as Batman might not immediately seem the best choice.

But as a business decision, Warner Brother's casting Affleck is a no brainer. They had to do it.

Here's why.

1. Warner Brothers needs a new powerhouse star after losing Legendary Pictures

Affleck is that star. He acts. He directs. He brings in the money. Since 2010, Ben Affleck has brought "The Town" (also Legendary) and Oscar winner "Argo" to screen for WB.
So earlier this summer, when Warner Bros. lost its huge distributor partner Legendary Pictures to Universal Pictures some major decisions had to get made.
Top execs are likely hyper aware of the two Warner Bros. big money makers (other than the "Lord of the Rings" franchise which will end after 2014) which were deals with Legendary Pictures and a certain actor and director by the name of Ben Affleck.
Over the past eight years, Legendary Pictures has delivered a list of successful films including the Batman trilogy, "300," "The Hangover" series, "42," and "Inception," four of which were Christopher Nolan films.
Christopher Nolan is gone. I t's not impossible, but highly unlikely Nolan will carry on with the "Justice League" film. Zack Snyder is clearly at the helm now with writer David S. Goyer, and Goyer has always been the heart driving the stories behind these films.

2. Legendary giving up Batman Vs. Superman needed a strong response

@EricVespe / Twitter
Since the split, Legendary and WB have been dividing up future films.
While movies "Pacific Rim" and "Godzilla" will be staying with Warner Bros, "Seventh Son" starring Jeff Bridges and Julianne Moore will be heading to Universal.
The most interesting tidbit from the divorce is that Legendary gave up its "Man of Steel" sequel in order to keep its name on Christopher Nolan's upcoming "Interstellar" project.
It appears that "Interstellar" is more important to Legendary than a Batman / Superman film, which is worrying for Batfans.
Warner Brothers likely had to attach as big of a name as possible to the Batman Vs. Superman mashup to keep worries about franchise direction hurting the film's and series prospects. Since Affleck brings a few Oscars and top films into the mix, that certainly helps.

3. Affleck is a proven talent that has worked for the company

Working relationships matter. In Affleck, Warner Bros. turned to someone it has a really good working relationship and track record with. That happens to be "Argo" director Affleck.
Affleck's been previously attached to Batman. His name was also rumored to originally direct the "Justice League" film as early as last year.
Grabbing Affleck seems like a safe bet for Warner Bros. as opposed to taking a risk with other actors as the Caped Crusder.
The man has a huge resume of both acting and directing. He's got star power. He could move into a larger role in the new direction in the future, and he's a safe pick considering his relationship with Warner Brothers.

If all of these reasons translate into a great or good movie/franchise remains to be seen. Batfans, stay tuned.

I mean an intro to kryptonite in this movie

Such an underwhelming casting... Ben is a decent actor but just not what I wanted for Batman.

He's a great director though so the only good thing that can come out of this is that he will probably direct the new batman films going forward and maybe take Justice League off Zack Snyders hands.
