DC Studios THREAD - GunnVerse Begins - Chapter ONE: Gods & Monsters

I didn't think you were coming ta me but I thought the joke was self-explanatory. The description of how Affleck played the guy in Argo is exactly how Batman is so you can't really say good in one role means he'd be good in anything, that was not the joke. The joke is Affleck already played a version of Batman in a different film and people loved it but then go crazy thinking he can't do Batman. I thought that was obvious. I mean it is a joke so there has to be some reaching and exaggeration but it made sense.

Oh well I haven't seen Argo yet so that's why I ain't get it.

I thought the joke was basically one of those situations where if you have a different opinion then your a hater. I admit I do get to touchy when people think like that.

My fault man.

that link and the Golden Globes twitter are the only place reporting the news so idk if it's legit.. gonna wait until the morning

I am not sure if the news is true, it was reported 11hours ago and still hasn't been confirmed.

Also, seems like Affleck was a 3rd choice, Karl Urban was the #1 but had scheduling problems.

Cosmic Book News sources claim that Ben Affleck was actually third on the list to be the new Caped Crusader, but Karl Urban's schedule couldn't be accomodated and #1 choice Tyler Hoechlin lost out based on Affleck's dedication to the source material. That dedication apparently became evident during his run to potentially direct JUSTICE LEAGUE.

I can live with Affleck as Batman, he hasn't had a bad movie, or bad role since gigli.

I think he'll be fine.

Cranston as Luthor is PERFECT.

Cavill is a great superman.

Now if they cast Matt damon as Aquaman, jesus.

Nobody is gonna take this movie seriously

Karl Urban would have been a good Batman. Shame his schedule got in the way. I think they wanted the big name and Affleck was the safe choice.

Matt Damon as Martian Manhunter? 13 films? Aight WB.

There was something else posted in here or the other comic thread about Gosling getting offered the part but didn't like "the concept of sequels".. idk what going on lmao

Why Ben Affleck Said Yes To BATMAN; Has Also Been Signed Up For "Multiple" Other Movies

Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that the process began earlier this year when director Zack Snyder had finished working on Man of Steel with producer Christopher Nolan. Snyder and the studio already had ideas for a follow-up, and Snyder reached out to Affleck to check the star's interest.

It's unclear when these talks began. Multiple sources say the studio approached Josh Brolin, as well as other actors. Ryan Gosling was also a possibility, but the actor dislikes the idea of sequels.

But Affleck was curious, and initial talks focusing on story and character began. Once Affleck was satisfied, WME's Patrick Whitesell and Ziffren Brittenham's Sam Fischer began negotiating his role in the Superman sequel. Sources say that Affleck has been signed for multiple other movies. The talks were so secretive that many Warner execs and most WME agents remained unaware of their existence.

On one level, Affleck’s return to superheroes seems bewildering. The Oscar-winning co-writer of Good Will Hunting drew scorn after donning the red suit for Daredevil, and later agreed it wasn't his best work. After he'd recovered and turned in a bravura performance directing and starring in The Town, Fox offered him the chance to direct and star in a Daredevil reboot -- but Affleck turned it down.

More recently, Nolan offered Affleck the chance to direct Man of Steel. Affleck declined, seemingly because of a desire not to return to the world of capes -- despite being an avowed comic book fan.

Because since it’s considered a sequel to Man of Steel and not a Batman movie, any potential underperformance issues won't ultimately land on his shoulders.

The deal also potentially lines Affleck up to star in and direct Warner Bros.' answer to The Avengers: The eventual Justice League movie.

.

personally i don't know what to believe

Affleck is 41 and they're talking about 13 flicks? Unless they're released like the Matrix sequels, you figure the role will be recast by the fourth film. WB is throwing feces at the wall to see what sticks.

Hopefully Cranston is Luthor.

 I wouldn't even care if Damon was Aquaman. I'll never give a flying **** about Aquaman. I'll be a bit mad if he's MM though. It will be a big joke then. Next ppl will be expecting Jimmy Kimmel to be Jimmy Olsen.
 Are you serious? I mean, I don't even know where to start.
Did you think I was coming at you or something?

Well I wasn't, I was just saying that I think the joke was corny if whoever made it was serious.

That's (who he played in Argo) really not a "version" of Batman though. That description is simplifying the character of Batman to it's bare parts to try and make a joke/point. You could make that same joke/argument for a myriad of different superheroes.

Isn't Spider-Man a complex troubled young man that takes on a persona to protect innocents? Etc., etc.

Also that argument opens the door for any good actor that portrayed a character with that description to be Batman.

Like I said, you got to reach and exaggerate to make the joke, which also makes the joke.

Seems like Ben wasn't their first choice but after he took the part WB is trying to convince the world and themselves that he is the best choice. A brainiac/Luthor sequel would've done the job but DC trying to play keep up with the big boys and throwing another superhero into a sequel for a film that still had some characters and ideas to flesh out :smh: :smh: :smh:

Hope Urban gets tapped to be the next Punisher now.

Might look like a typecast cuz he just played Dredd but I think he's perfect to be Frank. Just wish Marvel would show some signs of developing some of the guys they just got back. I can already cook up a nice DD solo and Punisher solo leading in to a crossover where they face off. Same goes for Blade and Ghost Rider but that'd be further down the line.

Well if the rumors are true that they wanted a 13 film commitment, then yeah I can see why he would have scheduling conflict.

MoS 2
Flash
Justice League
Batman
Wonder Woman
MoS 3
JL 2

Ben's deal could include directing future spin-offs.. what if they want him as Batman for the films i listed (7 in total) then have him direct and appear in a Batman Beyond series?

long shot that WB has thought that far in advance but still a possibility

Cranston may not be such a good choice on further thought because aren't Lex and Superman supposed to be about the same age?

They clearly don't give a **** about that anymore. Batman and Superman are suppose to be around the same age too.

And technically, no, OG Luthor had red hair and was much older than Supes if you want to take it back to golden age WW2 Superman.

Cranston can look pretty young, all those wrinkles are make up

Historically, especially in the film, Luthor has been older than Clark/Superman.

Gene Hackman was close to 50 when he played Luthor in the Superman 1, Spacey was about the same age in SR too.

Even in the tv show Smallville, Lex was already a young kid when Kals ship crashed.

When I think about it they didn't give a **** about age when they cast 40 yr old Amy Adams as Lois Lane.

Speaking of her I can almost see her not return the way Katie Holmes aint come back for TDK which was unfortunate with Adams I think it'd be welcomed.
