BURBANK, Calif.— Principal photography is underway on Warner Bros. Pictures’ Wonder Woman feature film, the highly anticipated action adventure from director Patty Jenkins (“Monster,” AMC’s “The Killing”), starring Gal Gadot (the “Fast & Furious” movies) in the role of Diana Prince/Wonder Woman. The character will make her big screen debut this spring in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” but the new film will mark her first time headlining a feature.

The film also stars Chris Pine (the “Star Trek” films) as Captain Steve Trevor, Robin Wright (“The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” Netflix’s “House of Cards”), Danny Huston (“Clash of the Titans,” “X-Men Origins: Wolverine”), David Thewlis (the “Harry Potter” films, “The Theory of Everything”), Ewen Bremner (“Exodus: Gods and Kings,” “Snowpiercer”), Saïd Taghmaoui (“American Hustle”), Elena Anaya (“The Skin I Live In”) and Lucy Davis (“Shaun of the Dead”).

The film is being produced by Charles Roven, Zack Snyder and Deborah Snyder, with Richard Suckle, Stephen Jones, Wesley Coller, Geoff Johns and Rebecca Roven serving as executive producers.

Joining Jenkins behind the camera are director of photography Matthew Jensen (“Chronicle,” “Fantastic Four,” HBO’s “Game of Thrones”), Oscar-nominated production designer Aline Bonetto (“Amélie,” “A Very Long Engagement,” “Pan”), and Oscar-winning editor Martin Walsh (“Chicago,” “Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit,” “V for Vendetta”), and Oscar-winning costume designer Lindy Hemming (“The Dark Knight” trilogy, “Topsy-Turvy”).

Principal photography will take place on location in the UK, France and Italy.

Set to open in 2017, the Wonder Woman feature film is based on characters created by William Moulton Marston, appearing in comic books published by DC Entertainment. It will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.

Batman bin Suparman Jailed in Singapore

It is with sincere regret that we bring you news that the viral Internet hero known as Batman bin Suparman has been jailed in his native Singapore for crimes including theft, breaking and entering and drug use. The man became famous within the last several years after a photograph of his Singaporean identification card found its way online, delighting millions with the knowledge that a sweet-faced and perhaps even supremely confidant young boy existed somewhere out in the world with a name that when translated means “Batman, son of Superman.”


As a former resident of Singapore, I can assure you the “Suparman” surname is actually not uncommon. Pronounced “Su-par-mahn,” the name is common among Javanese Singaporeans and has roots in the Sanskrit word for “good” and “fortunate,” which is appropriate enough for a name so close to that of the Man of Steel. The “Bin” is used in Arabic to mean “son of” (it’s the same pronunciation as “Ibn,” which is used only in the beginning of a sentence or proper name, such as Ibn Xu’ffasch, or the “Son of the Bat” character seen in Mark Waid and Alex Ross’ Kingdom Come).

However, language expert Ben Zimmer believes the “Batman” component of the Singaporean man’s name is unique. “Batman, on the other hand, has no false friends in local languages (as far as I’m aware). And the character of Batman is almost as well known in the region as Superman, so it’s hard to imagine any source other than the DC Comics superhero,” Zimmer wrote in 2008.

Zimmer’s blog post links to other sites which verify the existence of Batman bin Suparman, and features comments from Singaporeans with additional testimony that the ID card is not a fake. Indeed, several commenters claim to have met Suparman or know people who have, including one gentlemen who served his compulsory national service with Suparman, whose first name he said is pronounced “Bhat-mahn.”

Singapore is where I grew up and where I developed my love for American superhero comics. The boom of the early ’90s was as big there as it was anywhere else, so I was extremely pleased to discover that not only was a boy born in the midst of that era given the name of my favorite childhood heroes, but that he’d become an Internet celebrity with his own Facebook fan page boasting more than 11,000 followers. It’s difficult to articulate the uniquely Singaporean charm of the whole situation, but it was really very cool for me to see the Internet partake in it.

Sadly, it seems Suparman has been unable to live up to his auspicious namesake. The National and the BBC have both confirmed that Batman bin Suparman was arrested in August after he was captured on security cameras breaking into a local shop. Now 23-years-old, Suparman was also convicted of stealing money from his own brother as well as heroin-related charges, and sentenced to 33 months (he got off light — Singapore has notoriously harsh penalties for breaking and entering and drug crimes, including capital punishment for serious traffickers).

The special nature of the Internet has facilitated Batman bin Suparman’s celebrity, and with that comes a similarly special kind of advocacy that wouldn’t be extended otherwise. The man’s Facebook fan page has been inundated with posts of concern — some of it ironic, obviously – and well wishes for the young man’s swift recovery and release

EXCLUSIVE: RUMORED VILLAIN FOR AQUAMAN, MERA'S ROLE, & DIVERSITY IN THE DCEU

AQUAMAN's Villain

Many comic fans commonly reference Black Manta as Aquaman's primary villain (a la Batman's Joker), but it's actually someone much closer to him in more ways than one. I'm told that OCEAN MASTER aka Orm Marius/Curry aka Aquaman's half brother is the villain that's currently being developed to square off with the King of Atlantis in his first solo outing, which is said to be reminiscent of the comic struggles of the duo in a brother-vs-brother fight for the throne of Atlantis, but as Charles Roven told Collider yesterday, they're just getting into the screenplay, so the details of the story are still developing...

"We're very early days. We’re just starting with the screenplay. He’s making The Conjuring 2 now, so he’s had his hand in the creation of let’s just call it a working document from which to write. But he’s directing that film [and] he’s got his hand ever so slightly in the development, but he’s really gonna throw himself into it after he finishes shooting Conjuring 2. And we’re planning on it being his film after Conjuring 2. He is a serious Aquaman fan."

Mera's role in AQUAMAN

While casting is still ongoing for Mera, we do have some information about the plans for her character in AQUAMAN, her role in the DCEU, and what WB is looking for to fill the role. First off, Mera has previously been referenced as "Khaleesi of the Sea" via Heroic Hollywood (who also mentioned she may make her first appearance in JUSTICE LEAGUE - PART 1) and that's about right. Mera, much like her comic book persona, will not be a Queen walking around in gowns and waiting on her man. Mera will be a force to be reckoned with and will share the screen with AQUAMAN in very much the same way that Max and Furiosa did in MAD MAX: FURY ROAD, making her every bit a hero of the film (and the DCEU) as the titular character.

I've also heard that the studio is currently looking to cast a "non-white" actress in the role, which would match up with lead Jason Momoa's mixed race status (part Native Hawaiian/German, Irish, Native American). What does that mean for Mera's physical appearance in the DCEU? Well, it would certainly be a deviation from her comic book origins, where she is traditionally caucasion with red hair, but then again, Momoa is most certainly not caucasion, clean cut, and blonde, so that direct translation from page to screen has already been nipped in the bud there. So, at this point, don't expect a Jessica Chastain or Bryce Dallas Howard as Mera, which seems like fairly obvious choices for the role given her current comics appearance.


Diversity in casting/characters in the DCEU

No, I'm not talking about an old, old wooden ship used during the Civil War era, but rather the keyword that gets tossed around more and more, especially in my Twitter feed. With the comic book movie genre continuing its stranglehold over the box office, both Marvel and DC are under pressure to diversify their superheroes in order to appeal to a broader audience, which is partly where the AQUAMAN casting is coming from. Beyond that film, you can expect to see the DCEU attempt to win the edge over the MCU in that department as they push to create more opportunities for diverse casting and representation of women/minorities in their burgeoning universe. What this means is more team-up films, rather than solo ones, where they can create a more even spread of representation. We've already seen Marvel begin to take this turn with a few like-minded films on the calendar (BLACK PANTHER, CAPTAIN MARVEL, and ANT-MAN AND THE WASP, not to mention the jam-packed CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR) and we've already got some of that kicking off in BATMAN V SUPERMAN with the inclusion of WONDER WOMAN (who is shooting a solo venture now) and SUICIDE SQUAD bringing in a fairly mixed cast already.

WB is currently looking at a number of ways to expand on that trend, including a possible BIRDS OF PREY movie (recently reported by Latino Review) that would feature an all-female team of superheroes led by the previously reported Black Canary (lining up to be a major player in the DCEU) as well as Batgirl/Oracle, amongst others. A TEEN TITANS film (possibly merged with the CYBORG film in lieu of a solo pic) is also under consideration, as well as the already announced GREEN LANTERN CORPS, which we're told is Hal Jordan and John Stewart in a "Lethal Weapon in space" team-up. There is also discussion about including a gay superhero in the DCEU ranks, although according to my sources it's not something set in stone, but definitely under serious consideration for at least one major character. Any way you slice it, it appears that WB is ready to compete with Marvel in more ways than one, with a diverse universe being a key component.

Remember, these are all projects still in development so much of this could change going forward, but this is the current direction for the aforementioned projects and the DCEU as a whole, which Ben Affleck recently summed up perfectly, saying:

"You’ll see next year they are going to have a great year, they are now developing … probably the single greatest under-exploited IP asset in the entertainment business, the DC comic world. And now they have started to exploit that and you are going to see that blossom. And, when it does, it’s going to be massive."

Supergirl To Meet Flash On CBS For May Sweeps Week?


Makes sense specifically for the multiverse plot in Flash currently. Good for both shows ratings wise if you aren't watching both (I'm not). I like it specifically cuz it'll be a nice side adventure for the Flash crew especially since currently Superman (and Batman) don't exist in his world (nvm that blatant hint by Randall Savage :lol: )

Lol I'm down for the Flash/Supergirl crossover

Hoping Flash appears on the Supergirl show and not the other way around. (Supergirl has better CGI)

From what I'm reading, Supergirl has lost 50% of it's ratings since ep1. A drop off from ep1 to ep2 is expected but 50% by ep5 (or 6 I dunno)? It's doing ratings right around what Gotham is doing which is the only other cbtv show it has to compete with (another show I no longer watch).

This appearance is definitely going to happen on Supergirl's show :lol:

For anybody that believes it, it also competes with MNF (but I doubt a whole lot of football fans would love to watch Supergirl if it wasn't on Mondays :lol: )
 
Just sad that it's dropping like that. I have no problems with the show. Hopefully whatever number it's doing is enough to keep it on air :lol:
 
So my bae, Sarah / White Canary isn't going to be on that show every season? Eff that show then.
