DC Studios THREAD - GunnVerse Begins - Chapter ONE: Gods & Monsters

If the GL movie is a movie revolving around the whole Corp with our favorites thrown in there too, I say get an relative unknown for John.

I just have no idea what would impel them to make a solo movie about a character who has always been part of a team dynamic

Teen titans would be fantastic but Cyborg has been retconned into a Justice League member for whatever reason since like 2011 :smh:
Word The new 52 was so bad. I haven't kept up with much going on with DC comics since they started it. Can't get with the new stuff they been doing with most characters. And isn't cyborg just getting his first solo comic soon as well? What could they possibly do with him? It would've been good to keep Martian Manhunter as a member instead
They wanted a black guy on the JL since it's all white with a hint of green. So they swapped out J'onnz even though he's a shapeshifter and easily could've made his human identity a black person but w/e probably wouldn't count for some ppl. Also they didn't use John Stewart as GL as an OG member cuz Geoff Johns (writer and guy steering the JL comic for the New52) had already reestablished Hal Jordan's prominence as a GL and wasn't about to kill him or make him a villain again.

Then all you gotta do is look at the stable of black superheroes in DC. They're really lacking. Guess they weren't going to prop up Black Lightning and the like and they don't have full rights to the Milestone characters so no Mainframe or Icon being OG members. So they aged up Cyborg since I guess creating a new black superhero probably wouldn't have caught on either.

Agreed.

I think they should just give him a quick intro and just put him into the JL movie. Some JL members don't really need solo films.
 I still don't think the Cyborg movie is even going to happen.

I think the hopes at DC is that Cyborg is the breakout superhero in the JL movie so it justifies his solo movie. I can already see Vic being a key player and lynchpin to JL saving the day since all the other heroes are well established and guaranteed their solo movies. I bet he steals a few scenes meant for Batman and Superman.

It's the only real shot they got. If they don't do something like that I can easily see Cyborg being the worst received superhero movie and I say that knowing it's coming out in the damn 2020s

Chris Pine is a no-brainer for Hal

Reynolds didn't do a bad job himself although he was a bit too goofy

Let some random black actor be John Stewart lol...I'm tired of seeing all the Idris Elba and Tyrese fan art

Chris Pine seems like a good choice for Hal Jordan. But there has to be another decent choice out there for John Stewart...Idris Elba has been brought up numerous of times but does he have a non-compete clause in his Marvel contract like Jaimie Alexander?
I imagine he does. He's really wasted in the Marvel realm; he should be top billing.

Dude thought he was finna be flourishing

Heimdall ain't no star *****
mean.gif

Son's whole career at the moment aint flourishing imo and that's been the most disappointing.

I'm not feeling Pacific Rim with that weak leader role, or him playing some crazy dude tormenting a single mother, or a few other of his movies. Seems like his outstanding quality joints have been British made with stuff like Luther :pimp:

If I was Marvel I would've been killed Heimdall and brought him back as a new hero.

Still waiting for him to succeed.

Ya'll must aint seen Baby Boy. A movie with Tyrese in it is bound to have quotables

Has Cyborg ever been able to hold his own comic for a decent amount of time. Honestly I still dont get how he "replaced" MM in the New 52 reboot. THey should've just made MM's human form a black guy.

Waist Deep Tyrese is Prime Tyrese

Meagan Good in that film was bae though :smokin Would've wifed her right then if I had the chance.

I personally don't mind Tyrese as an actor, but couldn't imagine him playing John Stewart. And then I haven't seen anything from him to imply that he could nail the roll either. Then i'd also be happier with them rebooting Green Lantern and starting with a new Hal Jordan altogether.

Nope.

He just recently got his solo shot with this DCYou campaign.

100% agree here.

I'm guessing they feared that approach "not counting" since MM's true form is a green Martian. They'd probably have to go the extra mile and retcon his origin so that he always chose to be black when posing as a human.

Sucks cuz MM >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Cyborg.

Another thing I realize by putting Cyborg in the JL, is there's no younger black hero in TT.

Good point to bring up...I'm not a big comic-book reader but I'm hoping that the character had some decent arcs for them to consider...I'm not even sure if they bring on MM at some point...probably not
They better check some Teen Titans comics and the current JL for any Cyborg stories. That's about it.

If DC wanted to push an African American character into the spotlight it should be Static.

How were those?
Johns is a good writer but with a cast of 7 from what I've read there hasn't been a whole lot of focus on Cyborg. He's had development and built relationships with the team but the focus obviously can't be a whole lot on him. JL has been a good book though.

Aint like he came to the team with his own list of enemies like the rest.

I aint reading but you'd have to look to the new Cyborg comic to see if he can sustain a solo movie and that's not 100 since comics don't always translate that well to film.

DC does not own Static. He's a Milestone media ip. If they did though that'd be the clear choice.

However, there is a rebirth of Milestone with 2.0 and some new comics set in their own universe published by DC will be coming soon. If you want more Static and the like.

DC comics only distributes Milestone comics and have to get the okay to use any Milestone characters in the DC world by their creators. Think of it as a situation with Marvel, FOX and SONY with the movies and merchandising. They can't and wouldn't use Static since they wouldn't be getting 100% of the profit from using the character and would always have to ask permission. The sad problem is DC simply is lacking when it comes to black superheroes and putting them in prominent positions.

I mean you look at Marvel and it was the push by Bendis before Marvel studios existed for Luke Cage which is the sole reason he's getting his own netflix show. If not the last use by him and Iron Fist would've been back in the 80s/90s. Marvel while not touting a lot of black superheroes was still ahead of the curve at the time. Black superheroes with their own comics that actually were successful in the 70s and also in team books. I don't know of any stuff like that with DC other than John Stewart. I know of Mr. Terrific (the legacy) and that's where it ends. Even though I'm a Marvel fan if DC had more black heroes given a chance that were promoted I'd probably have given them more of a chance in my youth.
