DC Studios THREAD - GunnVerse Begins - Chapter ONE: Gods & Monsters

I can get the full lips thing but growing up as a black youth watching this show I never once thought, yeah Lex Luthor is a black man

I aint never seen a black man look like dude for me to come to that misunderstanding. It was really only until I got on the internet that I'd hear about this. Cuz other ppl weren't mentioning it either. We just knew Lex was a rich white dude that hated Superman.

So you ain't never heard of different incarnations of a character?

So your saying even if they drew lex luthor like wesley snipes he would still be white to you just because he's supposed to be?

How did you feel about Michael Clark Duncan's kingpin, did you think he was still white but fell in a pile of mud and wasn't able to get it off his skin?

So while watching this as a black kid you never thought the animated series lex luthor looked like a black man, are you one of those black dudes that rock the nappy buckwheat hairstyle, wears unnecessary glasses, and is always the only black guy with your group of friends at whatever event you go to?

^ Is that you?

Are you the grant hill to my jalen rose?

Lol never even got the hint that Luthor was black in STAS and NT is the first place I've ever heard anyone think it. The thing is when they made a character black in BTAS or STAS they made sure you knew (see Lucius Fox, etc.). There were waaay to many characters with similar designs to Luthor who were white. I'm pretty sure Michael Corbin (Metallo) was tanner than Lex with similar features as well. He just had light hair. Hell Clark and Lois were just as tan at times.

Not knocking you guys who thought so because I can see why could think that, but it's still funny.

Leonard Roberts would have been an interesting choice as Lex though. I could see it.

lol, batman was black too. Y'all just don't know it. Louis lane?..... You guessed it, light skinned

Here's a curve ball, splinter...... Yup, Dominican

Unfortunately... it is like that in most cases. Show me another cartoon where it isnt made overtly obvious that a black character is black. The last thing tv execs want is racially ambiguous characters confusing young white children across America.

Not for Superman The Animated Series

So your saying even if they drew lex luthor like wesley snipes he would still be white to you just because he's supposed to be?
If they drew Lex Luthor to look exactly like Wesley Snipes I would've said they obviously made Lex black and maybe Wesley is gonna play him in a movie but they didn't make Lex look exactly like Wesley so I don't get this hypothetical question's point.
How did you feel about Michael Clark Duncan's kingpin, did you think he was still white but fell in a pile of mud and wasn't able to get it off his skin?
Best part of that horrible movie. That is what you would call a different version of a character known as one thing in the main incarnation. In the DD movie, Wilson Fisk was black. What I'm saying though is Lex in the cartoon is not a different incarnation, by way of what the creator of the cartoon has stated himself. If you want to say Bruce Timm is lying or he had some secret agenda to make Lex and whoever else black and just not admit it well you can go ahead and pursue that conspiracy.

I think you're misunderstanding my stance on this though. So let me clarify. I never though Lex in Superman: TAS was black and I find it funny that some ppl did. I find it funnier how impossible it is to you that ppl don't think Lex as drawn in the cartoon doesn't look like a black man to some ppl. For all that I've just been having fun with this idea that Lex must've been a black man and how disgruntled you are over this topic.

I have no problem with changes of race for characters, they do it in comics in alt universes so that's just the way I take it in the movie universes. Kingpin was a black man in the DD movie. Perry White was a black man in MOS. Heimdall is black in Thor.

So while watching this as a black kid you never thought the animated series lex luthor looked like a black man, are you one of those black dudes that rock the nappy buckwheat hairstyle, wears unnecessary glasses, and is always the only black guy with your group of friends at whatever event you go to?
No I'm not and I'm wondering now how hurt you must be about this topic to reach so hard to try and insult me cuz you're mad ppl didn't think Lex was black in a cartoon.

I think I said it before, but it must be stressed at this point, you're taking this too seriously and apparently personally and you clearly have a problem. Seek help.

:smh: @ yall now bringing up some piss poor arguments trying to label ppl one thing for not agreeing with you. No just cuz we don't think Lex was black we think black characters have to look like racial caricatures to actually be black.

Outside of Ruckus who is purposefully exaggerated all the black characters look black in The Boondocks as in ppl you'd come across given it does have an anime influence to it. So there's one example.

I don't see how bringing up anime like DBZ where the Asian creators refuse to make the main characters look like Asians but instead Euro white ppl living in Japan even plays a role in this.

It's almost like, the people who thought luthor was black and the people who didn't, are looking at two different luthors. It's amazing how the human mind works like that; to some of us he never seemed anything but black, while to others it's laughable than anyone ever thought he was black.
