DC Studios THREAD - GunnVerse Begins - Chapter ONE: Gods & Monsters

Smallville is ten friggin seasons tho.

I mean.....

Of course it has more depth fleshed out than a two hour film. How can that be held against MOS?

I remember clark would only wear clothes that were red, white, or blue. He dressed patriotic everyday.

Lois was so fine. Wish the actress was in more stuff.

I'm not a huge fan of the Shazam comic suit but that looks pretty good from the side.

I'm a fan of this look. I hope they don't do a big lightning bolt on the chest

This issue with the other look above is that the suit looks a little too man made. When the suit should be more natural

That's from Justice League: War right? That suit's inspired by the New 52 hooded costume, which is kind of split between fans, but I liked it. I don't go back with Shazam like that, so I'm not attached to the one shoulder cape or the towel on the waist.

I was with you until the end  Like the very end, last 2 sentences.

Really good post though. Addresses a lot that ppl try to pretend is not an issue and cuts through the bull ****.

Too many ppl approach Superman in the stereotypical fashion that he's just a boy scout. I mean sure if you want to do a shallow dismissal cuz you're propping up Batman and you don't want to get in to details and actually discuss it is one thing but in any sort of in depth discussion about what works and what doesn't that ignorant **** won't fly at all.

I knew that's where i'd lose some people

The main point of Smallville wasn't as an example of greater depth though, but of a Superman who is relatable, but doesn't ever come across as "dark". It's just 10 seasons where this is consistently shown to be the case. You see this from the very first episode  You can take almost any episode from the series and use it as an example of portraying this in a set amount of time. I also pointed out that this, and other things, isn't even something unique to Smallville, but is the standard for Superman in general and the reason that the current portrayal has received so much backlash. All-Star Superman is another good example of this.

Also, i'm not holding anything against the film, since I liked the film  To me, it's not really any different from Batman being kill-happy in Dawn of Justice. It's different and I can acknowledge that, but it doesn't ruin the character for me.

 That's the thing though. I love Smallville and I love it in the way I love Lost and I can forgive that final bad season where they botched the answers. I can forgive those last few struggling seasons (why the homey Michael Rosenbaum isn't Lex cuz he got burnt/blown up in the back of a truck and then they gave us a fine *** Tess Mercer to raise a young Lex clone or something I won't ever get) but this whole MOS is the best live action Superman is just hogwash to me.

It didn't earn that. That's a title thrown out there without acknowledging its basically by default. MOS is the "best Superman movie" in the sense that it has the benefit of advanced film technology so it looks good and they finally gave viewers a Superman knock down dragged out fight against opponents that could whoop his ***. I mean I wonder why we didn't get that in the 90s before the Death of Superman attempt.

Its not cuz of the story AT ALL when it comes to MOS.

It's just not enough given that's just an example of how bad a director Bryan Singer is that his dumbass couldn't give us that in any form with Superman Returns. We got a wasted Spacey handling crystals and a Superman flying around doing what? Fighting some alien caused disaster? Plus Bosworth running around as Lois.

The Snyders felt the need to give a poor take on his origins in badly edited flashbacks coupled with a continued poor message in the present in an attempt to make him relatable and some cool fight scenes. That's it.

Can't get no accolades for that.

You're missing the point.

This isn't a how much time you have to do something issue.

Its how you approach the character in general. That's what's being held against MOS. Not that it didn't get 20 hrs to flesh out Clark Kent. C'mon now :smh:

I didn't know who he was either, but he was born to play Shazam. He's a big dude who's got the youthful look and personality of Shazam already. Some fans have been lobbying for him on social media and message boards.

this clown for Shazam
Jim Halpert for Booster
Yuri Boyka for Desthstroke.

We are a crack casting crew I tell ya

You need a clown for Shazam. He's a 12 year old kid in an adult's body.

As long as they don't cast John Cena or Channing Tatum, I'm good.

Had lunch with my friends yesterday and they spent 15 minutes or so trying to explain how John Cena would work as Shazam  :smh:

He's like 5 feet tall. There's no way he's throwing down with The Rock.

I think people just want to see John Cena fight The Rock like it's WWF. :smh:
