DC Studios THREAD - GunnVerse Begins - Chapter ONE: Gods & Monsters

No one should pay Kevin Smith any mind when he starts talking about scripts winning awards or nominations.

Dude is a comic nerd first, film buff last in that regard.

 @ Snyder being on that list 3 times

 @ RVD getting got by that April Fool's prank. Snyder opting for Steppenwolf as the main villain really isn't that out there especially with those fake quotes reasoning why.

The whole Martha thing was unnecessary. If Superman just asked him to save his mom, that should have been enough to trigger an emotional response in Batman. Like, "oh, this God-like figure who has all this power has a family and direct connections to human beings. He genuinely cares, not just someone who looks at human beings as ants."

Now, it would have been a stretch, but that would have somewhat humanized Supes' enough for Batman to back off. And if Batman didn't kill in the universe it would have made even more sense. Because Batman would have been faced with a similar moral decision that Superman had in MoS (in killing Zod). The inner dialogue would have been, "I don't kill, but Superman is an alien, so he's fair game. But now that he is showing signs of being one of us, what do I do?" It's reminiscent to the close of MoS where Supes' straight tells General Swanwick, that he's just a guy who grew up in Kansas.

Ehh, whatever. I need to stop putting so much thought in a movie where the filmmakers so obviously lacked any concern for it.

Superman showed up trying to have a rational conversation..

And batman is the one going on about 1% chance of someone doing something/anything

You can't reason with an irrational nut. That was Supes mistake. Talking about "if I wanted you dead" and ****. My man you just snapped Zod's neck a few years back. Burn this bat with some heat vision, save your mom, and go home and smash Lois.

Supes first attempt to explain the situation was very weak though.

That's how you get stuck in the trappings of a bad plot though. If Supes explains everything to Batman then there's literally no Batman and Superman fight  Can't have that cuz then you'd have to spend time reworking the story to have them fight at an earlier point or something like that.

If the first thing Kal said when he saw him was lex is going to kill his mom then it would've been all gravy. batman was definitely the villain. I would've gladly threw batman into space and told him there's a 100% you're a scumbag because you're trying to kill me for no reason.

Damn. Vudu app > Amazon app

Can't tell the difference between Blu Ray and the vudu app

I never liked the whole "if Lois/a loved one of Superman's dies, he turns evil and takes over the world" idea.

It cheapens Superman's character and once again makes him a plot device. They did it in Injustice and in Justice League with the Justice Lords when Flash died.

I don't believe Clark as a person is so emotionally or mentally stunted that he would become Hitler if a loved one died. Maybe some massive depression, all the normal things that come with loss sure.

Spider-Man lost Gwen Stacy and countless others and the question NEVER came up as to him becoming a villain because of it.
I think thats the point of Superman though and why he is always considered a threat. He has always come of as a mental ****** to me who's reasoning and logic could easily be turned against him.  I know this comment was a while ago but i was reading back in the thread to see read some people reactions here since I've finally seen the movie

the whole point of superman is that he isnt a metal ******

he is able to always do the right thing because he doesnt have to deal with fear and jealousy like the rest of the world. he's superman

I get what you're saying but I don't think thats what Superman represents anymore, that's the old portrayal of Superman. The Superman we've been getting lately is flawed in a few ways especially emotionally and I think that makes him a much better and more interesting character.

how does that make him a more interesting character?

why does everyone want to see emotionally soft characters these days

You know what, if you want to re-tell the Superman story and say that he is this all powerful being, however his questionable upbringing has made him confused, that could work.

And with all the "don't save people" garbage that his parents have been feeding him, that would make all the sense in the world.

Looking back at MoS, you could even say that being bullied by people has made him realize how bad human beings are. And in many ways, he saves out of pity, not genuine caring of the human race.

That also plays into why he didn't care about fighting in a heavily populated area in MoS. He may have just seen those innocent people as collateral damage.

Damn, Snyder's vision for Supes' is so clear now.

Flaws do make a character interesting but having Superman be one tragedy away from becoming a villain is taking it to ridiculous levels

How is he flawed emotionally? He loves his girl and his mom. Seems normal to me.

Obviously that's not this Superman.

In the murderverse, due to his parents upbringing he is completely unsure of himself when it comes to doing the right thing. When ppl talk about how he should be put in check and that he answers to no one he doubts himself even more. He's not the man of tomorrow in message or ideology only via his abilities.

It makes more sense now that Snyder was so in to those MOS Star Wars mash ups. His Superman is falling victim to the dark side; doubt, anger, fear.

JL is probably gonna culminate with Sith Superman decapitating Darkseid and taking over Apokolips

@sea manup  This is just my personal preference but I don't like "perfect" characters. Guys that always get it right and can always save the day, its so unrealistic (feels funny saying that talking about comic book characters

) and boring to me.

Its not about being soft its about being realistic and relatable to me because actual people have emotions and thats not a bad thing.

And this is true it is a little ridiculous but thats just how mentally fragile I consider Superman to be.

Its not the love part that makes him flawed thats normal, its the "I just lost the person I love so **** everybody its a dictatorship now" potential that makes him flawed and interesting.

what makes superman interesting is the same thing that makes dr manhattain interesting. they are so powerful that they are able to focus on issues beyond human comprehension, if we are getting an all powerful god character then explore what someone would do and care about given this superior understanding of the universe and limitless ability to achieve anything. why do we need another emotionally soft character who only cares about saving his girl? huge waste of potential.

when lex has superman's powers in allstar superman and suddenly understands superman because he can literally see the fabric that holds the universe together

Clark = Anakin

That's what Snyder wants.
