Ehh I wouldn't worry about fan perception too much, just execution. It's not really about who's doing light or who's doing dark movies but if you're just putting out good movies period and you're not rushing steps.

If the only problem with the movie was that it was dark, I'd be happy.

Yeah, see I just realized I'm really weird when it comes to CBMs. When I look at CBMs, I view them not in terms as "films," but as adaptations of CB stories or as CB story arcs. That's probably clouded my view of a lot of these movies and franchises in general.

For instance, I love the WWII stories of Cap, and therefore think Cap1 is the best Marvel movie, bar-none. I love the hell outta that movie. I REALLY don't like most of the rest of the MCU movies, though, because they "watch" like single issue comic stories. There's no depth to them. CA:TWS is probably the only exception. The rest are just soooo light on story, they're like 28-pagers from the silver age or late-1980s.

And with DC, I'm totally post-1975 or so when it comes to their stories, so the darker the better when it comes to Bats and Supes. I'd be in my glory if I got DK: Year One, Crisis on IEs, Killing Joke, Superman: Red Son or Kingdom Come on film, lol. But I know those are complete fantasies except for animation films (except Bats: Yr1 or KJ - I totally see them as part of this universe). So when something like BvS comes along and has a ridiculous amount of layers to it, I'm in my glory. It's like the 5-part main series, plus the tie-ins! I feel like I'm getting my money's worth in terms of all the stuff that's going on.

I bet random movie-goers (and critics, apparently) don't dig that at all, but boy, do I appreciate it.

Then again, I'm also still holding out for an Enemy Ace movie, and want Booster Gold & Ted Kord on TV, so what do I know?

I'm excited for Fantastic Beasts and the biggest reason why is cuz the screenplay is written by Jk Rowling herself. That's never happened for any of the other Harry Potter films.

Have no idea what you're talking about with Similaron, whatever that is lol.. Sorry

Silmarillion is basically the prequel of Hobbit & LotR. Unfinished by Tolkein, but there's enough material to make it work. A lot of it was peppered into the Hobbit trilogy, tho.

Just sounds like to me you like a lot of stuff going on in your films.

Nothing wrong with that but it just got to be executed well. Also the more stuff you add in, the more likely it's going to be a mess

yikes

Now... if DC is secretly building BOTH the TV and movies to a Crisis on Infinite Earths? Weeellllll... I'll pee myself. Especially if it ends with Ben Affleck, the kid from "Gotham," Cavill, Grant Gustin, movie Flash, Eisenberg Luthor, Ryan Reynolds Hal Jordan AND Darkseid all joining forces to defeat the Anti-Monitor.

Hoo boy, that'd be insane.

:wow:

You kinda making it sound like it would've been a bad thing for the WB to follow Marvel's formula. It obviously works.

DC should've have been worried about giving fans 'civil war right out of the gate'

I think trying to compete with Marvel blow for blow too soon is what got them in this mess to begin with

Should've just worked on just making good solo movies first and go from there

Yeah, I really do think that following Marvel's formula would've backfired. I think a lot of critics and CB fans would've called out "poseurs" and said it was a cash-grab

Look, really DC/WB was f'd as soon as IM1 dropped and Nick Fury came waltzing in in the post-credit scene (sorry, spoiler - lol). ANYTHING they did from that point on (remember they were in the middle of the Nolan Bat trilogy at that point) was going to be viewed comparatively to the MCU.

I'm all for them going completely off the board and opposite what Marvel's doing, if only so I get variety in all the CB media I get. Let Marvel's movies be fluff and TV/Streaming ve dark, and DV's movies be dark and TV be light. Awesome.

Copying Marvel's formula of solo movies leading up to a team movie is better than what we're getting now.

Has nothing to do with light vs. dark tones. They could keep the movies dark just make the movies good. That's been failing.

I mean you can be light and still be not all that good word to Story's F4.
Oh, and WB ain't changing anything as long as they can keep cashing in on that JK Rowling money train. Fantastic Beasts is gonna make beaucoup $$$$$$$.

And if they can get Peter Jackson to make a trilogy of the Silmarillion??? Well, all bets are off. That ish will pay for their DC stuff alone.
That aint how it works

Every franchise gotta pull their own weight or they just pull the plug on it. That JK Rowling money aint gonna make up for wasting 800 mil on superhero movies.

Yup. And DC has the known characters to be able to do it better than marvel

If they reboot a superman origin film is out of the window.. So is a batman origin film

They still have WW, flash and green lantern.. Then you tell straight up superman and batman stories without their origins, them actually being those heroes

- which is another shame of this film.. We never got superman as superman for a whole film.. First film is him becoming that thing.. 2nd film him dying and basically a batman being a d*ckhead

Maybe you do an aquaman movie if you make strong enough first couple movies and you have trust of the audience

Cyborg and Martian manhunter films would come after JL.. Cyborg getting hurt in whatever event causes the big team up.. And you put nightwing in his solo film and allude heavily to teen titans

Now that is a great idea.

They've got the groundwork, I hope they have the foresight.

Aw yeah, absolutely. Look, I just like having all this stuff available to us in general. I mean, holy crap - I'm living in an age where Martian Manhunter and the DC Multiverse aren't just on national network television, but are actually drawing big viewership #'s. Daredevil's huge on Netflix. Black Panther and Doctor-F'ing-Strange are gonna get their own movies. Rip Hunter is a main character on TV. This is THE golden age for comic book fans on TV and in movies.

Of course I wish all of these properties got Dark Knight-type reviews and critical reception, but man, I have no control over any of it so I'm just gonna enjoy what I get while I can.

I'm in my late 30s, and before Batman Begins my non-comic book superhero world consisted of Christopher Reeve spinning Earth backwards to go back in time and Michael Keaton's Batman (which wasn't too bad at all, tbh).

Compared to that stuff, tho, everything we're blessed with now is absolute gold.

The movie needs to make 1.2 billion at least to be a success to WB.

That's unlikely at the moment given the 80% drop.

That's the thing, it is great but I've stopped tripping over that.

The fact that these movies are being made and keep being made and it's a big thing that can sustain itself is no longer something I stop and wonder at. I appreciate it. I'm happy about it all but I'm not just happy they're here as if I'm being done a favor.

I want these movies to be great, I've seen the bar been raised a few different times and because of that when I watch **** I'm gonna call it out. When I hear confirmed things or rumors that sound bad I'm gonna balk at it. If I think things are going in the wrong direction I'm gonna **** all over it and just hope I'm proved wrong. That's not happening so far so I can't just go to damn it's great that these movies and tv shows are being made at all.

I don't want these movies to just get TDK reviews, I want them to be as good or as close to great as TDK is. I can't just enjoy what I get while I can. Imma talk about it being bad whether it's ppl who feel the same way or if I'm just the only one.

Perhaps it is an age thing cuz I separate the comics from the movies in that instance. If the cbm bubble bursts tomorrow and they all go away I still have my comics at the end of the day. Reading that is it's own enjoyment in itself. Like I don't rate my TDK experience over reading The Killing Joke. So it's really just two different mediums I'll criticize or enjoy not a I'm just happy it's happening situation for me.

Yeah, that drop is BRUTAL. I was hoping no competition + lots of kids still on vacay would = bigger numbers, but oh well. I seen it twice; I did my part.

Maybe Sat & Sun #s will pull it up, but whatever. I have less than zero control over it, and I gotta catch up on my comics these next few weeks.

Btw: DC not including their solicitations in this month's Previews is BS. I'm really pissed I gotta browse online to see what "Rebirth" titles I wanna order.

I thought the goal was 900 mil.

I think they're handing out a separate magazine or solicitation book for the Rebirth solicitations. So be on the look out for that.

Yeah, I order online from DCBS, so they're making me use their online descriptions. Not their fault, stupid DC planned their Rebirth announcement for the week after the Previews were mailed. Grrr...

It needs to do over 800 mil just to break even. Over a billion was the # that makes the execs happy and means it was a success.

This vid explains it all pretty well

very interested to see how they market justice league

in terms of brand, justice league is nowhere near as popular a name overseas as "batman v superman"

It was good the first time I seen it 8/10 but the second time for some reason I couldn't stay awake. Maybe because it was only 3 days later but both me and my gf were dozing off. I mean we had a bit of jet lag but I just couldn't stay awake and focus. Good movie overall I feel like it definitely was better then Avengers AOU
