***OFFICIAL NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS SEASON THREAD*** (13-4) - Patriots @ Broncos - Sun 3:05PM EST - Bra

my take on our draft:

round 1:
easley, DT: pretty obvious here. high risk, high reward. if he's healthy, A+ pick. if not, crippling miss in a draft loaded with talent. watching this dude on film is ridiculous. he gets off the line so quick and is in the opposing player's face almost immediately. he's getting into the backfield and jacking up plays consistently. he might not always make the tackle, but he's disrupting plays left and right by getting right into the backfield.

round 2:
garappolo, QB: is this the guy? he's definitely the most aggressive attempt the FO has made to answer the "who will take over for tom" question. the pick definitely surprised me. i think he's coming in to a perfect spot. most say he isn't ready to play, which is fine for us. he's going to learn our offense and how to be a professional from the best possible QB to learn from. skill wise, he has what it takes to be successful. if he can develop his current skills similar to how brady did, could be promising. quick and smooth release, with the ability get on the move and buy time for receivers to get open. from what i've read and briefly seen, looks like he can make most of throws he needs to.

round 3:
none

round 4:
stork, C: strong, smart, and versatile guy that can IMMEDIATELY pressure wendell and connolly for playing time. i like this pick a lot. we need OL help, and having a guy that can bounce around a bit with our injury plagued line is valuable.
james white, RB: i wasn't wild about picking a RB in this draft. the big thing with this guy seems to be ball security. he doesn't fumble the ball. definitely some insurance if ridley can't fix it. he should complement our current stall of RBs nicely. he's a smaller guy but sounds like one that can find holes and cut through tacklers effectively.
cameron fleming, T: like this pick as well. while he's not going to challenge any starter for time right away, he's a backup right away. smart kid.

round 5:
none

round 6:
halapio, G: another guy to help give us some depth on the line. better run blocker than a pass blocker. hearing that the concern with him is staying healthy. hopefully he can be a reliable backup for us this year.
moore, DE: don't know anything about this guy other than he's got great size for an end and is basically out there to get to the QB. much needed for us. don't expect much from this year though.
thomas, CB: another guy i don't know anything on. SMALL corner. 5'9" and change. don't like the pick. not with some of the other guys on the board at that point in the draft.

round 7:
gallon, WR: this is my dude. loved this kid at michigan. slot man written all over him. if he can get on the same page with TB12, going to be a great addition. he's quick and tough. he'll do the dirty work in the middle. big fan of this pick, especially this late. it will put pressure on boyce and thompkins as well, unless the team plans to do something with amendola.

overall i think it was a pretty good draft for us. we didn't get the big pass catching stud that a lot of us were hoping for. we did however get a guy who could be the next great DL for this team. we hopefully picked up a guy that can take over for TB12. and we bolstered our offensive line with some good big boys. will be interesting to see how gallon and white contribute, if at all. but not bad additions. we signed a couple undrafted TEs immediately after the draft was over, one of them being 6'7"...so we'll see if that works out at all. my hopes are a bit tempered after the jake sudfeld debaucle last year.

Justin Jones is a nice get...hopefully he didn't lose skills with him missing a year. Heard belicheck worked him out a lot predraft so he must still be looking good....6' 7" with a 37" standing vertical :pimp:

Eh. Gronk is brittle and might start off the season on PUP list, Jones is an undrafted rookie we're taking a flyer on, KT's snaps decreased each game and he's gonna be fighting for a roster spot, Dobson has a foot issue and was up & down as a rookie.

So basically the only proven commodity we have who can be consistently relied upon is Julian Edelman...and he's a ******.

I'm glad Belichick FINALLY focused on grabbing better/bigger DB's this offseason (wondering what they'll do at SS though...) and I like what he's done on the D line...but **** man, Brady is surrounded by question marks as receivers and his window is closing. ******* go ALL the way out.

It's good they'll be counting on the offense to do less with the increased attention on D. But they could absolutely use someone who can stretch the field and open up the middle though. Year after year we see opposing teams pack it in and dare the Pats to beat them deep. Brady couldn't hit those passes last season and they don't really have that guy right now.

I guess we gotta count on the young dudes to make that leap...

Dobson and Thompkins MUST take that big step forward. i would think at least one of them should be able to. Amendola hopefully can get his act together and get on the same page as Brady.

Gronk starting the year on PUP? Is that true? I thought I heard his rehab was going well? maybe not.

There were unconfirmed reports out there that he was gonna take his sweet *** time coming back. I wouldn't blame him after the fiasco with the elbow.

i'm perfectly fine with him sitting out the first 4 weeks if he needs to. i just want him to be healthy and 100% for the second half of the season and for the playoffs for once

So what's the receiving corp looking like?

Amendola, LaFell, Edelman, Dobson, KT, Boyce, with Gronk and Hooman at TE?

+ Slater (special teams mostly), Gallon (7th round pick), and a mix of undrafted TEs we just signed. also, we worked out dustin keller last week, so they might be looking to add a veteran TE

Thanks. I totally forgot about Gallon. Idk, if Gronk can be healthy, I feel like that'll help the receivers some. Signing Keller would be a nice add.

Anyone mad that Jace Amaro went to the Jets? All I heard for awhile was that he'd be a perfect fit along side Gronk. I'm fine that NE didn't get him, but I don't wanna see him flourish with them.

agreed, man. if gronk is good to go, we're in business. i'm wondering if the fact that they ignored the bigger name TEs in the draft means they feel good about gronk? or if that means they have a plan to add a veteran? who knows.

and yeah amaro to the jets is a killer. that's a matchup issue for us. don't like it one bit. jaimie collins will be busy

Man, Gronk better be good to go. I'm fine with him sitting the 1st 4 games as well, but I'm not even trying to see another injury. I know it happens but he's too important to the offense and has too much potential to fade away being plagued by injuries.

Anyone know when tickets go on sale? The wifey and I are planning a trip up there to hit up a game. Hopefully 11/2 vs. Denver.

SVP and Rusillo were just talking about how NE needs to get Brady a true #1 receiver since his window is almost closed now.

usually it's in July for tickets. not sure exactly when in July or if that's changed this year.

yeah Edelman really is like the #1 right now which sucks. don't get me wrong, he's great and i've come to love what he does for us...but it just sucks that the #1 is 5'9"

Cool. I'll keep an eye out then. Is this a good thread to ask for spots to hit up to sight see and eat?

#minitron

Just put Gronk out there with 4 slot receivers; we'll be good.

Easely to wear #74, Garappolo to wear #10, Gallon to wear #83, Justin Jones to wear #88

7th Chamber 7th Chamber i'm sure you can ask in here

where about you going to be staying? the stadium is a good 30-40 minutes outside of Boston

Why did the Patriots take three linemen? Tom Brady had the highest sack percentage since his rookie year despite having the eighth-lowest average time in the pocket of 37 qualified quarterbacks.

:x

i knew OL was a need...but DAMN

To be fair, Brady pulled a Bledsoe a few times and turtled up because of pressure/coverage.

But yeah...the OL got beat more than we would like.

I'm not even sure yet. The wifey is handling all that. Lol. She mentioned that there's shuttles that can take you to the game though.

How many TEs did they sign? I just heard about Asa Watson. Hopefully there's something in the group worth keeping.

Mikejs210 holla at me if youre really coming out this way :pimp: Id be happy to assist in any way i can.

Deadset lives in the Bay now. He's no longer a Bostonian
