***OFFICIAL NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS SEASON THREAD*** (13-4) - Patriots @ Broncos - Sun 3:05PM EST - Bra

i dont see Wilfork coming back . its time for him and the organization to move on

him going points more to the organization freeing up money to resign Revis and McCourty

I don't really see it as freeing up room for Dmac and Revis because I can't really see any scenario where they would've paid him that 4 mil bonus taking that 8.9 mil cap hit anyway :lol:

Last year when they asked him to restructure the numbers they proposed apparently pissed him off, I think this way he can go out and see what the market throws out and if it's close to what the Pats are willing to pay I think he's back. If you look at his letter he didn't rule out a return.

As far as D-Mac, before the franchise tag dealine he wasn't even tripping about possibly getting tagged. After he didn't get tagged he started saying he wanted to be back but it wasn't a "he wanted to be back no matter what" situation. This is his first big contract and its coming in a year where he's the top safety available coupled with a weak draft for safeties. Once teams started throwing out those fat numbers I think he's gone.

Revis is a WAY more tricky situation. He won a ring already so maybe he doesn't care about going elsewhere for his last big contract. On the other hand maybe he values winning so much that he absolutely wants to finish out his career competing for rings. Another variable is the Ty Law connection. They're both from the same town, their families are really close with each other and he's also his mentor. Ty said if he could do it over again he would've stayed a Pat instead of chasing the money elsewhere. This ***** better be in his ear saying the same **** :lol:

hartline would do WORK in our offense (assuming he can get on Brady's page, which i assume he could). i feel like danny has earned a place on this team but if it comes down to money, i'm OK seeing him go. would be nice to give Brady the same receiving corp he worked great with for two straight years though. enough with the revolving door on offense. let's come out on the same page and firing. none of this adjustment period ******** :lol:

i agree -- i like what weve seen out of Amendola towards the end of the season . im just going off of the reports . to me , it makes zero sense to bring in Hartline on top of what we currently have in the receiving core . he would do great as a cheaper replacement , but im trying to figure out how the offense will find enough room to incorporate Gronk , Amendola , Edelman , and Lafell on a consistent basis . lets also not forget that Dobson will be healed up as well

Apparently Suh is close to signing with the 'fins...:x. The entire AFCE is making moves right yet nothing out of Foxborough just yet. Just more and more noise from teams interested in prying away our guys :smh:. Some sources are saying that there's probably gonna be some news on the Revis front by the end of the day,I hope so. It also seems like everyone and their mothers' team is interested in D-Mac right now

Here's my thought process on these signings as of today; NE can "nullify" these free agent acquisitions by re-signing Revis and McCourty. At the end of the day, if NE takes care of its business, we're still looking at Tannehill, Cassel and who knows for the Jets right now for the quarterbacks in our division. While McCoy makes Buffalo a little more explosive on offense, Marshall gives the Jets a veteran playmaker and Suh gives the Dolphins a monster on the defensive line, their quarterbacks will ultimately be their demise.

Until someone takes the division from us, NE still owns it as far as I'm concerned.

Of course, this is all dependent on Revis and McCourty coming back :lol:

yeah i mean Suh is obviously a great player. but until teams find a way to stop the Gronk effect...not concerned.

i am concerned with losing revis and dmac...can't take that big of a hit to our defense

^ :rofl:

yeah tuba boy devey can't be a backup with Suh in the division. need to add to the offensive line for depth

For what it's worth...
@NEPD_Loyko
Spoke to some people on McCourty this next serious of tweets is related to that.
@NEPD_Loyko
Belichick isn't just the best judger of the most, he's the best at judging personalities.. Specifically those players that are loyal and..
@NEPD_Loyko
and have emotional connection to the team. Strategy is now let another team set the market, pitch McCourty, Patriots will comeback to ..
@NEPD_Loyko
him with their price and McCourty will have to decide whether he wants the extra money or the legacy.
@NEPD_Loyko
This is the reason why the Patriots haven't even opened negotiations with McCourty. #Patriots already know their number. They'll jump in..
@NEPD_Loyko
when they're ready and it will be their bottomline number. the Player understands that as does the agent.
@NEPD_Loyko
Lastly "Belichick has contingencies on top of contingencies. If McCourty doesn't take the offer, he won't sweat it, it's on to the next one"
Dude covers the team and is a homer, but his **** is legit.

Cold world, man.

More or less how they operate with most guys. Same will apply to Revis. Wilfork was sort of the exception last season, and that's partly because Kraft looks at him like one of his sons and stepped in so it wouldn't end badly.

Love my team, but if I was a NFL player in my prime heading to free agency I probably wouldn't sign in New England. Unless they paid up handsomely

(which they almost never do for outside FA's).

It'll suck to see him on another team. We all watched his come up throughout these years :/

yeah i don't know how McCourty can turn down the money he's supposedly going to get. and i can't blame him. he put himself in a great spot to get a big contract. he got his ring...can't knock him for trying to get paid now. same with Revis, although he's already made a pretty penny and is at a different stage in his career, of course. same idea though :lol:

The secondary they worked so hard to build would be in shambles should we lose both :x :smh:. Sort of expecting D-Mac to leave at this point with all the interest he's generated :\

Yesssss :pimp:

I honestly wasnt expecting it to get done so soon. Or at all, really :lol:

Good looks D-Mac :pimp:

Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter
S Devin McCourty will be re-signing with Patriots as @MikeGarafolo reported. Now Patriots will see if they can re-sign Darrelle Revis.

5 years, $47.5M for D-Mac

i'm floored by that...that's a lot of commitment. speaks more to how much a leader he is on this team rather than just his ability. at least in the eyes of Bill. lot of money...i'm not convinced he's worth that type of money. but whatever. keep revis and i couldn't care less how much you pay him

Damn,that's almost Earl Thomas money. I'd like to see the details of the contract to see if it's more front loaded and get's more cap friendly as it goes on. This does speak volumes about how much faith BB has in him. We've seen him not hesitate on not paying pretty good DB's in the past but I guess he really believes in D-Mac,I'm real happy to see him stick around for a few more years. I feel a lot better with him back there than Harmon :lol:

It is big money, but if there's one thing i know it's to just trust bb.

The fact d-Mac turned down more money elsewhere makes me think he did it knowing revis is coming back as well.

hes a top 5 safety in the league and hes almost always healthy . to me -- this only becomes too much if we lose Revis

28.5M guaranteed too
