Spygaye, lol. Cant reveal everything. Nah.

Bradys stats in preseason, lol. Vereen looking good. Edlemen the new welker for real. haha.

Defense I can't judge cause the panthers offense really really sucks this season....like what I saw from the offense tho

3rd preseason game the biggest measuring stick. what i took away from tonight:

Defense absolutely killed it. The coverage was insane. Chandler EVERYWHERE. Carolina's WRs don't present that big a challenge, but effectively a shutout. Impressive any way you slice it. 3rd down defense on point. Cam with nowhere to go with the ball and Chandler creating all sorts of problems for Cam. Again, coverage helps a lot.

Edelman on punt returns...solid as usual.

Why in the **** is Amendola fielding punts?!?!? That's not a good spot for Mr. Glass

QB sneaks by Brady with Devlin barreling into him to push the pile...not a good look for the preaseason

Slow start for the offense but that 3rd and 19 throw to KT from TB12...perfect. All I need to see to know 12 is ready. But for good measure, he was pretty much perfect from that point on. TB12 to Vareen...they will KILL IT with that wheel route.

60 yarder from Gosto :wow:

Edelman, Amendola, KT, and Lafell all continue to look 100% ready to go

Stevan Ridley...please just hold the ball. The dude can absolutely flourish in our offense...just hold the ball.

The weakest position on our squad is safety. As far as DMC has come, he has no one to pair up with. Chung stays getting burned. Harmon and Wilson make plays, but I don't know if they're consistent enough. Luckily Revis being able to work a third/quarter of the field himself will help cover that up. Brandon Browner...played DEEP into the game again :nerd:

Pretty Jimmy continues to look comfortable in this offense. Couple brain farts but for the most part he does well to keep the sticks moving. The touch on deep throws is impressive. Very calm and cool.

What's the deal with all the offensive PI on screens...blocking too early? They're really calling that a lot. Defensive hands to the face is going to be the number one most annoying penalty this year. Ridiculous rule.

In terms of Browner playing late...it probably has to do with him not being there for the first four games. The other guys need the reps more than he does right now and Bill is still trying to figure out how to shape up the secondary. For once, we actually have a GOOD problem on our hands there...multiple guys with different skill sets that aren't complete turnstiles.

I'll say this though. It would NOT surprise me to see Browner lose his spot as the starter opposite of Revis. His leash is probably shorter than we all thought. Between the 4 game suspension, not being as "versatile" as the others, the NFL's emphasis on penalties (which is HUGE for him), emergence of Butler and continued improvement of Dennard & Ryan...it might not look so good for him when he returns.

Greg Bedard talked about it a few weeks back...
Even after his four-game suspension is up, Brandon Browner is no sure thing at cornerback opposite Revis. Alfonzo Dennard has proven capable in the past, and undrafted rookie Malcolm Butler has opened eyes. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Patriots match up their cornerbacks depending on the opponent, with Browner sitting against teams with a smaller receiving corp but matching up with big vertical receivers. Unlike Revis, Browner is the type of cornerback who will be adversely affected by the renewed emphasis on downfield contact; that’s how he plays defense. And he’s a 30-year-old big corner. Those types of players start their downward slides at this stage of their careers. The Seahawks thought it started last season with leg injuries and didn’t want him back. The Patriots are betting otherwise.
My hope is he can carve out a role on the team and eventually contributes in a big way when the games matter most.

In regards to the other Brandon...I don't trust LaFell at all. I'm anticipating more drops than we'd like.

^ all good points on Browner, man

i know talk of it was shut down when we signed him, but with no one emerging at safety, wouldn't mind seeing him get a look there. especially if dennard/butler can hold their own opposite revis.

In a perfect world, Browner would transition to SS since that spot is wide open for the taking and he'd mimic the role of Kam in Seattle. The problem is he doesn't move well laterally enough to play there and you're also taking away one of his biggest strengths; pressing at the LOS.

I think it's pretty much corner or bust. If the NFL doesn't ease up on the flags by the time his suspension is up...it's gonna be really tough for him to make the transition and the other stuff I mentioned doesn't help either.

I know it's preseason but man am I excited for this defense this season

. Haven't been able to say that since at least '07-'08 it feels like

Chandler Jones really looks ready for that next step, feel like he'll be feasting on opposing QB's this year and the secondary should be feared with the added pressure up front. Wouldn't mind seeing Browner possibly play safety either, there seems to be more than enough depth at corner and the safety corps is looking a little thin. Hopefully he can work on his movement and footwork during his time off.

The only move that I wouldn't mind seeing before the season starts would be to add at least one proven veteran TE like a Dustin Keller or Jermichael Finley. If Gronk does go down at some point this season *knocks on wood*,we're pretty screwed at that position with 2 undrafted rookies,Hoomanawanui and another injury prone player in DJ Williams...

. I have to say that I'm a little intrigued at Justin Jones' red zone potential at 6'8 but I wouldn't wanna have the team be forced to rely on him at some point.

yeah chandler jones is going to EAT with improved coverage in the secondary and a healthy vince and tommy kelly back on the line. should be exciting to see. and agreed on TE...we have ZERO depth. i'm amazed at them not being able to find someone who can come in and contribute. i mean we've got dudes who played tackle in college lining up at TE right now

The Patriots defense just got a lot younger.

The Pats released defensive tackle Tommy Kelly and defensive end Will Smith today, a source told the Herald's Karen Guregian. Linebacker James Anderson was also cut, according to ESPN, which first reported the news of Kelly and Smith.

Kelly's release is the most surprising, as he worked with the starting defense for all three preseason games and appeared to be relatively productive after returning from a torn ACL. Plus, camp injuries to Sealver Siliga (sprained left wrist) and Chris Jones (sprained ankle) have hurt their depth on the defensive line, but it seems possible that pair could be back early in the regular season. The Pats also have Dominique Easley, Joe Vellano and Jerel Worthy to line up alongside Vince Wilfork.

Smith really never got off the ground once he debuted at practice, as the 33-year-old hasn't looked like the same player while coming off a torn ACL of his own. The Pats used him at both defensive end and defensive tackle, and he wasn't very disruptive through camp and the preseason.

Anderson's release is only slightly more surprising than the Smith transaction. While Anderson hasn't stuck out much in camp, he was a solid veteran persence behind Jerod Mayo, Dont'a Hightower and Jamie Collins as the fourth linebacker on the depth chart. With the Patriots' transition to a 3-4, an extra body wouldn't have been a bad thing. Anderson had a starting role Friday night in the nickel package due to the absence of Mayo and Hightower, but he was beaten in coverage and missed a tackle along the sideline. Anderson's release is also due to the promising youth at linebacker, including Steve Beauharnais, Ja'Gared Davis, Darius Fleming and Deontae Skinner.

The three transactions leave the Patriots' roster at 84 players. They must get to 75 by Tuesday at 4 p.m.

The early release of the three veterans is a common practice by Bill Belichick, who does this to help them find work before hundreds of players hit the waiver wire next weekend.

shocked at Tommy Kelly getting cut

the Tommy Kelly release surprised me too

with regards to the safety position , i wouldnt be surprised if someone currently playing DB transitions . someone mentioned Browner , and thats exactly what i can see happening with how big and physical he is . the emergence of Butler has been huge , but it definitely jeopardizes a lot of people's spots . guys like Dennard and Ryan might lose a roster spot

the secondary tightening and getting Wilfork back to plug the middle is going to help our D line tremendously . Chandler and Ninko are going to EAT all season , and i have great feelings about Collins continuing to shine . i have some concerns about our LB depth though , but Beauharnais impressed me with his versatility on that INT

i will be PISSED if we cut Stevan Ridley. absolutely PISSED.

mike reiss floating around his hunch that ridley isn't going to make the 53 man squad :nerd:

James White, get ready.

On the plus-side, I'm hearing LaFell is finally acclimating a lot better to the offense.

I feel the same , only if dude could hold on to the ball, he's the best runner we have and to rid him is crazy

I don't see much of these rookies except maybe Finch

yeah LaFell looks ready to go from what i seen. they been targeting him early and often in preseason games

i'm concerned about dobson's role this year. might take a couple injuries to get him decent snaps
