Creed (Film Series) | Creed III | 3/3/23

By losing the fight he earned his name.

He no longer had to fight himself for not knowing his dad.

He took the fight against the champ only because he had Rocky in his corner and Rocky was a father figure to him.

He went home and thought about it and then told Rocky to decide for him even though he originally didn't want to change his name to Creed. I don't see how that is a flaw in the movie, just because he is influenced by the only father figure he has ever had.

You guys make great points and I know I'm being real nit picky haha. You've filled most of the plot holes I had a problem with. I should give it another watch and really try to view it as its own film. But still, right now, it felt flat to me. I will admit the character grew on me at THE VERY END when he talked about not being a mistake and such. But then the girl seemed kind of pointless as she was just there at the end. He wasn't looking for her like Rocky needed Adrian. Whoops...there I go comparing again  Hopefully, they develop a stronger bond and her hearing problem loss creates some good drama and inspiration.

Southpaw was a much more enjoyable boxing movie to me. I shed a few tears at that movie.

It's all good Hennessy. I just really like the movie because it really highlights the impact of having that father figure around.

Also, while I somewhat agree that it is unlikely for a club fighter like Creed to get in the ring with a P4P champ, I felt like they always portrayed him as a long shot and was supposed to be a sure win for the champ. Creed only won one fight in the movie and got worked by Andre Ward.

Buster Douglas beat Mike Tyson, if a movie was made about that before it happened, it would have been unrealistic.

Oh man. I was super disappointed with Southpaw. Gyllenhaal is always good, but his character was extremely unlikable. That was one I was looking forward to and was let down tremendously. Speaking of unrealistic, he went from an undefeated multi-millionaire to having nothing within a matter of months

It's be dope to see Jake and Michael have a serious fight with the training they have from the movies

People are going to nitpick. It is what it is. I just came back from the film and thought it was great.

For me, it is one of my favorite movies of the year next to Sicario which I think is the best movie of 2015. The movie had all of the elements present throughout the Rocky anthology, but managed to separate itself from the previous six and stand on its own two feet. As someone who saw and enjoyed the previous installments, this is more than a worthy chapter in the series. Beyond the acting, the cinematography was excellent. The shots during the fights especially the last captured the spectacle and brutality that is boxing. I personally believe that Creed is the best shot film in the entire series. It is hard to say what my favorite scene was because the movie was incredibly well done.

I imagine that this film had to be personal for Stallone on a number of accounts as there were a number of odes to his son, his son in Rocky V, who passed away; the final scene of Creed being one of them. I saw it as more than passing than torch. It was Adonis having the father he never had and Rocky finding solace in the son who is no longer in his life; in the series and in real life. With that said, there are a number of parallels to Rocky V especially with both Creed and Gunn seeking out Rocky's tutelage, but unlike Gunn, Creed truly appreciates what Balboa has done for him and needs him by his side. This is what Balboa initially envisioned how it would turn out when he invited Tommy into his home and sat in his corner as trainer.

The only flaw of this movie, is the music. There are no tracks that stick out like the other Rocky films. Measure of a Man in Rocky V, Heart's on Fire in Rocky IV and Eye of the Tiger in Rocky III are iconic and help make the series what it is. Should Creed be the beginning of a new franchise, I hope that they improve in that area because the music is important to the Rocky mythos.

A quote that stood out to me was about Paulie. "He was a friend who wasn't a friend." Paulie was truly a ****** person and the reason Rock struggled after all of those years in the ring.

The Warriors blowing out the Clippers on the ESPN ticker. :smokin

You know Coogler had something to do with that.

So I showed my girl all the rocky flicks after we saw Creed. Skipped 5 of course and she has the FIlms ranked
1,4,3,2,Balboa

One thing that I appreciated was the brief "Tale of the Tape" introduction to each new fighter we were introduced to in the movie. It was a SMALL detail but make a world of a difference man. Little things like that go a long way.

Good points and I strongly agree. Rocky and Adonis climbing the museum steps had me a little emotional for a number of reasons, the main one being it made me feel incredibly old. I grew up on the Rockys and Rambos and those type of movies in the 80's/90's so seeing Sly in that state in the context of Rocky was heavy stuff.

rocky 1 was a better character piece

creed had the GOAT boxing scene and the GOAT walkout while being a very solid character piece

another small detail which was not so much planned but more just being able to use the histoy of the franchise

so awesome to see the pictures and footage of actual fights in this world from 30 years ago

its rare to see actual history in a movie like this and the upcoming force awakens

I got rocky 3 with the goat walkout, I mean dude killed Mickey.. And rocky IV as the goat fight

That Hail Mary still though :pimp:

as a purely cinematic experience I have never seen anything better than creed's first professional fight

Also if we talking entrances..

Method man in great white white hype was :smokin

another bit of great writing is how they perfectly set up the sequel

#1 contender

trained by creed's trainer's son (avon)

already knocked him out

The Hail Mary intro was tough but i liked Conlans character intro more cause of the overall theatrics. From the fire spitting dude in the pitch black to the Undertaker esque smoke :pimp:
