Just finished watching Southpaw for the first time, after being told to compare it to Creed to see which I like better.

Creed destroys it. Better acting and more exciting.
 
The actors seemed as if they didn't even want to be in the film with the lackluster performances. The final fight was Zzzzz
 
Sly might really win the Oscar :pimp:

Keaton and Ruffalo who were the front runners for supporting both got snubbed at SAG and GG noms. Sly missed out on SAG but got a GG nomination

This movie was great. I grew up on the Rocky series and this fits perfectly within the Rocky universe IMO. Loved the chasing the chicken scene.

Wish sly would of used Mick's "You're gonna eat lightning and you're gonna crap thunder." lol.
 
Haven't seen it yet. May peep it tomorrow. Haven't read through the thread much either, but I see that they got Tone Trump in there.

How's the black Philly culture represented in this movie?

Coogler lowkey really did a lot of universe building in this film too.

The likely next opponent is the guy who knocked him out in the LA gym
 
Homeboy coming out to that is one of the most visually stunning non-action movie sequences i can remember

loved every second of it
 
Yeah it was really well done. Hail Mary already had you hype, but then Conlan's whole production kicked it up a notch.

Film was great and I only enjoyed Sicario more so far this year. MBJ was good as always and Sly had one of his best acting performances, he definitely deserves some award nominations. Coogler is rising fast and with another success, should be able to do whatever film he wants. Hopefully the plan is to keep it a trilogy though, I don't need to see MBJ in 15 years training a boxer. Also I kind of want to buy a pair of red, white, and blue creed shorts just to lounge around in.
