OFFICIAL Asian Film Thread

Something a bit different from the usual fanfare: "Nobody Knows." Based off a true story.

OD "feels" were felt while watching this movie...:frown:.

There's an english language trailer for the movie, but I feel it reveals too much of the plot, so do yourself a favor and avoid the english language trailer if you really want to experience the movie for all it's worth.

Be forewarned though, major feels will be experienced. Joint had me tearing up...:smh:

Speaking of which...

Last week was the 40th anniversary of Bruce's passing...

Also wanted to comment on Infernal Affairs... I loved 1, but 2 & 3 were meh.  I felt it was too forced... banking on the success of 1.

For some reason, youtube's share option keeps showing the progress circle spinning so I can't post trailers. Some movies I'd recommend that haven't been mentioned are anything from director Wong Kar-Wai like Chungking Express, In The Mood for Love , & Days of Being Wild (among others). Can't wait for Grand Master.

I'd also recommend Election by director Johnnie To & A Bittersweet Life by director Kim Jee-Woon. Both were excellent movies. Also recommend Outrage & Outrage Beyond starring Takeshi Kitano. That dude is a boss.

Forgot to add one more recommend, a Japanese movie called Quill about a seeing eye dog & his blind owner's refusal at first to using him. Very touching story about the bond they develop. My 9 year old son loved the movie too.

Yeah, it's an ok movie. People seem to love it because of the concept and that it's Japanese. I watched it when I was in high school and thought some of the characters were really cool. The sequel was awful.

I know people who flat out hate Hunger Games just because they are fans of BR.

They're both terrible.

I was disappointed in HG because I read the book. But that's for another thread. :smh:

Most of the feudal films are >>>>>> So much history and authentication.

Anyone seen the film that The Hunger Games ripped OFF completely? :smh

You talking about Battle Royale?

wait so the books ripped off a movie? cuz ive heard this complaint before, but people were attacking the movie not the books...which makes utterly no sense.

I keep meaning to watch PTU (Police Tactical Unit), but it keeps falling by the wayside for me. My friend lent me the dvd, but I kept forgetting to watch it & had to give it back to him without watching it. I need to make it a priority. I've gotta find it again to watch... I'd rep you but I'm over the limit repping abovelegit1 & ChampCruThik in the footy thread. :D

BTW, does anyone know of a Korean movie that isn't really heavy? :rolleyes Is it because of Han?

Audition - I think this might still be on Netflix. I watched it a couple years ago. Man this movie was messed up but really good IMO. I liked it because it's a TRUE horror movie. Like no ghosts or anything, this could really happen.

I need to check out some of the other Asian films in this thread. I had to buy Ip Man when I was in Hong Kong as part of a scavenger hunt like quiz my Cantonese professor gave us. Gave us a list of stuff in cantonese and we had to go buy it and bring it back to her. I never watched it

What are some other movies you guys would recommend for someone wholived in Hong Kong before? I didn't really watch any movies when I lived there since I was always out exploring the city myself but I'd love to watch some movies now to reminisce about Hong Kong.

The Chaser
A Better Tomorrow
The Good, the Bad, the Weird
Open City
Parallel Life
Rough Cut
The Righteous Thief
The Secret Reunion

Battle Royale which was released in '00 was based on a book of the same name by Koushun Takami. The book was released in '99. If anyone's interested, there is also a sequel called Battle Royale II: Requiem. Both a great action movies.

I saw BR back in the day and when I heard about The Hunger Games movie, that was what immediately popped in my mind... that it sounded similar to BR.  I'm sure I wasn't the only one.

Eh, Tony Jaa coulda been the one a while back but he just fell off.  Part crazy part crappy movies.  And the fact that Rza is in this movie promises it'll be trash Lol

ong bak still one of the goat MA flicks.
ong bak 2 and 3 were crappy cuz they were set in ancient times. bad move :smh:

The protector films are in modern times tho... it'll deliver.

 Might watch tonight

My co-worker & I were talking about this thread & he asked me if I remembered a movie. I couldn't recall the name of it, but it sounds so familiar. An assassin kills his mark but couldn't kill the person's child. He takes the child & ends up teaching it to be an assassin. There was a scene where he laid out a toy & a sword/knife & the kid went for the sword/knife. Anyone know what movie he's talking about?

Shogun Assassin - I've never seen the movie but know what you're talking about because it's a sample in the beginning of 4th Chamber on GZA's Liquid Swords album.
