CHROMECAST or RASPBERRY PI

raspberry pi is advertised as $35 but I dropped at least $90-110 on accessories; i.e. power source, SD card, HDMI - HDMI cable and WiFi dongle. I bought most of my stuff off element14 & amazon for the wireless keyboard/mouse.

Tomorrow I'm gonna figure out how to finally get everything to boot properly. It doesn't show up and run the start-up program burnt onto the SD card.

What you can do with the Raspberry pi is use it as a computer to access the internet or use the XBMC media program to play your movies, songs, shows on your connected hard drive.

I'm straight on all that

90-110 on those accessories? Everyone of those items can be found for less than $10 each.

I got my Chromecast on Friday.

I think this thing is great for what it does so far, and for $35 you cant beat it. I chose to buy the Chromecast because I have a Galaxy SIII, and thre isnt an Apple TV app for Droids. I also have Google Chrome as a browser on my phone, so I have been doing things on my phone which is on my TV. Is there a lag from the computer? Yes, but it is negligible.

It doesnt have much apps as of yet, but it really doesnt matter because you can just cast off of Google Chrome. The interface is off of Google Chrome

Raspberry Pi is annoying. As others have said you will end up spending 70+ with accessories. Software is buggy too.

Better off buying a WDTV Live or Apple TV.

I'll probably order a chromecast later today. Only thing I don't like is they don't have hbogo. Maybe i'll try logging in on the chrome browser and watching it that way.

I bought my sister a roku and it's nice but the interface really sucks.

Apparently HBO should be coming by end of the year.

My friend put a porn site on his browser and it was laggy on the screen. We were disappointed.

I have the Gbox Midnight MX2. It runs XBMC and Android Jellybean. Best $100 I've e er spent. It is amazing

Why would you use the browser when there are so many XBMC plug-ins for pr0n already?

I didn't even know what that was until I googled it. From what i've read, I don't think xbmc works with chromecast yet.

No problems playing "those" sites even at "extreme" quality on my home network.

I was able to do 3 gig .MP4 Blu-Ray rips on "extreme" quality with minimal framerate drop. Also tested with NFL Sunday Ticket which worked out great. Threw up some PC Multiplayer games on desktop sharing and there was about .5 seconds of lag from my PC to a TV about 20 feet away.

Other than not being able to play .AVI files I'm impressed.

Some things to note:

- You will need to install the latest version of the DIVX web player for your .MP4 .MKV etc to be played
- If your .MKV files are not working, rename them to .MP4 and they will play fine
-.AC3 audio is not supported so look for files that are AAC audio
- Sound does not work in experimental desktop sharing mode
- If you have multiple monitors you will see both displayed (there was no way i could get it down to one unless I disabled it in my graphics settings)

So it is pointless if I already watch stuff off of my XBOX.

But I wish XBOX and DailyMotion get a better app because the current DailyMotion app is HORRIBLE

have one laying at the crib.. havent gotten around to hookin it up.. will frequent this thread for tips!

I got my chromecast yesterday. I think the only apps that are compatible with it right now are netflix, youtube, and google play movie. If Sunday Ticket has an official site you can stream from, open up the chrome browser on your desktop or laptop and you can push it to your tv that way.
