Lone Survivor (2013) - Trailer - Mark Wahlberg,Taylor Kitsch,Eric Bana

Yeah, like other people said, I don't understand why they didn't just take them as hostages for a couple hours on the hike back than let them go?

Does Marcus address that in the book or in any interviews?
I didn't get that either. The movie was intense though.

Do the ROE not allow them to take those dudes as prisoners? Of course they would've had a search crew on their tales eventually after it was noticed that those dudes were gone for a long time, but at the very least the SEALS would've had a headstart and the opportunity to set up strategically and plan some traps.
Nah they could take them as prisoners.  Nowhere in the ROE is that illegal.

MAYBE they doubted their ability to control 4 prisoners as a 5 man team, but still, then ended up losing 3 guys and still not accomplishing the mission.  And that mission became an extreme long shot as soon as they let them dudes go

I was arguing with my boys about this film. They blamed Mark's character for their downfall.

I was saying I wouldn't have let them go either but I would have took them with me until we reached extraction.

All my boy said they would have killed them on the spot.

What would you have done in that situation?
Snapped the ankles of the two boys and let the old man go get help.

Movie was super emotional. I would have tied all those guys up after first stripping them down. And maybe killed all the goats then aborted the mission ASAP. Those falls were horrendous. I always wanted to be spec war but I'm not about that life I know that now

My favorite dude in this movie was Matthew, he was a straight goon. Broken leg, multiple shots, even got shot in his head and didn't know. Watching that scene taking his last breath hurt me. When the soldier pulled out a gun on his own man in the helicopter gave me all type if feels. Why soldiers don't carry more grenades? Would've made a big difference.

Watched this yesterday because a movie reviewer said this is kinda like the Black Hawk Down of this decade(that was one of my fav movies)

I kinda agree with what he said. It was good it had me feeling all types of feels.

Those falls, the helicopter scene, the squadmates dying

The knife scene with the kid lol

I remember about 2 weeks before this movie hit the theaters my cousin had a dvd screener copy if this movie which we watched

At work people around cooler and customers talked about the movie before it was out

Me I was like yea I saw that yesterday it is a good movie

They all look at me like how you see it and it's not even out yet. I'm like uhmmmm (sweating) my cousin is a critic. They all bust out laughing

Great movie.

But dude's getting hit like 3-4 times, rolling down hills ribs cracking on rocks, heads hitting tree trunks .. these dudes are machines.

I want to read the book now. Anyone read it yet?

Man, just thinking about what Marcus has to think about every day now relating to the decisions and the events of that mission just hits the feels.

People keep comparing the two. I've never seen Black Hawk Down. Worth a watch?

I was a little confused. Did the boy actually make it down the hill, tell the Taliban in the village about the SEALS, and that was the reason they were blocked before reaching the peak? The movie sort of made it seem like there was Taliban all over the place anyway (on the peak of the adjacent mountain and creeping around the hills).

What would I have did? They had walkie talkies.. They'd been toast if it were up to me :smh:

Naw. See if you remember in Veitnam war we were losing bad because those vietnamese knew the jungle like the back of their hand. That is how the taliban was, they knew the mountains good and all the shortcuts or what not. They could run threw those moutains with ease. Kind of like how we were kids in our neigborhoods and knew all the shortcuts and land terrain

Actually in the real life from his book I believe, they DID kill the people they ran into, but their was another one at the end of line watching the animals from running off. He saw them get killed and ran off to report what he seen, the soilders never saw him because he was hidden at the very end of the line in the back

A 4 man Recce element trying to control 3 prisoners with no rope, 550 cord or flex cuffs would have never worked. The biggest mistake made that day was the decision not to bring a radio that could reach higher at any time.
!!SPOILERS AHEAD!!
(Idk how to add spoiler)

Mannnnnn. So y'all gonna tell me the only dude who didn't have the stones to do what needed to be done and got everyone but himself offed "made the right decision"? It was the other side or them, and they gave up their lives for what? I could see if dudes were just regular citizens. But young boy had hate in his heart.
They got caught being sloppy. Killing non combatants is a good way for you to end your military career.

This is a photo of where the ambush happened.

Hes never out of the fight

Mike Murphy got a Medal of Honor for that, a Naval Destroyer named after him (The USS Michael Murphy, a pool, a park, his name is in the Hall of Heroes, Penn State has a Lt Michael Murphy Award, the Lt Michael Murphy Plaza, plus that crazy *** crossfit workout.

dude is a legend, and I feel honored that men like him have lived (and died unfortunately) in my lifetime.  War heroes always seem like something of the past, but these dudes are our contemporary legends, and aside from books like this, we will never know 99% of what they do for us everyday.

war heroes and military legends are of the past...there are very few just wars going currently. i still don't understand why people jump so quick to give praise to people who are fighting and killing other innocent people.

these people that died, sure it is sad and unfortunate, however they are not fighting something that we as citizens of the 'free world' should be proud of.

me personally? I will never give praise to anyone who passes away fighting an unjust war and supporting a military occupation. those men went in fighting for what they believe in (hopefully that is why they were fighting) and they died believing it.

I cannot honor them and call them 'legends' because personally what they are fighting is not something to be proud of at the end of the day.

and knowing both sides of the story, trust me its not all black and white...these movies sometime play with your emotions even more to further an agenda and a mentality of 'we are just', 'we are right', 'we are free', and it cannot be anymore misleading.

I'm from Kandahar if that matters.
