I don't think it was him becoming a made man, in fact after Masserias death Luciano was given control over his own family along with 4 other bosses (which would become what we know as the five families in NYC that still exist today). So I can only assume that the ceremony was recognizing him as a boss since it differs from the traditional making ceremony with the burning saint card. In the years they didn't show, Masseria and Maranzano were having a huge gang war over who would control NYC. As we saw in the episode, Masseria was never going to budge so Lucky set him up. For more on that just google "castellamarese war" because I don't want to reveal possible plot points. Interesting scene though, I've read a lot about the American mafia and never heard a ceremony like that where they all cut their hands. In a making ceremony it's only the one getting made that cuts their hand, pricks their finger or something along those lines. If it was a making ceremony those dudes wouldn't have hands left lol.

That was actually a nice touch. Luciano was severely beaten in 28 or 29 which is where that came from.
@Rell826 that wasn't the formation of the commission, as you saw Maranzano declared himself boss whereas the commission was a ruling panel. Which pretty much tells you what's gonna happen there lol.

Pretty solid premiere,I did catch feels when they briefly mentioned AR's funeral
.Sad to see that we've seen the last of him on the show,he was one of the better characters and the Stahlburg had arguably the strongest acting on the show.
It was sad seeing Chalky falling even lower than he did during the finale last season,I wonder what must've happened during those 7 years for him to end up in a chain gang. Interested in seeing what him and the bojangles sounding dude are gonna be up to.
I wonder what Meyer was really up to in Havana
,maybe keeping a close eye on Nucky?
Nucky's new right hand man doesn't look like the type to be messed with at all,straight up collecting ears off his victims
Glad that they kept Patricia Arquette's sultry self
I really hope that they explore the aftermath of Margaret and AR's deal a little more,that's practically the only interesting thing left with her story. The scene with her bosses Mickey Mouse monologue was shot perfectly. The tension was building up slowly and I kind of semi-expected something like that to go down with her working on Wall street with the depression going on.
Even though the flashbacks weren't really needed and didn't show anything we didn't already know,they were some of the nicest looking scenes of the episode.
I was worried about budget cuts when they announced this as the final season but man does the show look as beautiful as ever with the different shades and hues used to present the bleakness of the era and the contrast with Havana's bright lights and atmosphere. When it comes down to production value ,few shows come close to BE's attention to detail
Luciano's story should be one of the highlights of this season with the Commission being created and some of the other important events that happened with the New york mob around that time.
Can't wait to see Al,van Alden,Eli and Narcisse again. BTW,was that Gillian reading the story at the end of the episode?

she was working for a brokerage firm, and her boss was setting people up to buy bs stock which she helped in . AR asked her to give him the inside scoop on certains stocks and when to buy/sell. She agreed to do this if he helped her get an apt in one of his buildings. They agreed on a 5 yr rent free deal, and I'm assuming she would continue to give him info during that time period.

The commission isn't formed yet. If I remember my Mafia history correctly the guy who he bowed to is goin to get power hungry too and they'll have to off him before Lucky takes over & forms the commission. I don't know if they're following history that closely tho & I wonder what's Meyer & Luckys relationship really like now in the show because they both helped formed the commission together. I think it was actually Meyer's idea.
And I think Meyer was in Havana scouting to open up casinos. That's the racquet he moved to after prohibition.

If your not brushed up on your Mafia history things like Luciano's droopy eye & scar would be a mystery to most. Also I think I read somewhere Luciano was going to be a big focus in this season & I hope this is true because I've wanted to see his & the modern Mafia's rise to power since he was introduced.
I hated & loved the leap in years.

I wish the leap was further developed, but I guess with only 7/8 episodes left in the series there isn't time for it.
SMH about Capone as well, but I'm curious to see how he continues to run with Van Alden and how far that goes.

^ If that's what you mean, then yeah man they left out A LOT of key & historical violent moments by deciding to end the show this season & leap yrs.
Ex: Castellammarese War & St. Valentine's Day Massacre.
Yeah some key characters like Van Alden weren't included in the 1st episode but I'm sure him, Eli & others will come up.

Began some years before, yeah, or flashbacks.. especially on AR's death like everyone else has mentioned. He was a pivotal character over the past few seasons, to have him mentioned in a convo for all of a brief second with Meyer/Nucky, not doing his importance any justice.

They both need to make appearances via flashbacks or something.
But that might not happen because the creator was a writer on The Sopranos & that show was NOTORIOUS on leaving things unanswered.

I just need to see some more George Remus....1931 is the year Capone gets convicted so I'm willing to bet that's where his story ends on the show.My jimmies are definitely rustled that this show is ending...
