most undeserving MVP'S of any major sport

Nah, Kobe in the peak of the Western Conference's Prowess dragged Kwame, Smush and a cast of bums to 50+ wins...If his team was in the East they would have easily been the no.1 seed, just like LeBron in Cleveland basically during those years.

Hold it right there champ.  A.I. definitely deserved MVP that year, no doubt about it.
He shot 39 percent from the field...

Shaq has 29 and 13 while shooting 58% from the field with 3 blocks a game. Looking back, it wasn't really close.

I guess this conversation right now is stats vs. impact.  With that being said A.I. had a bigger/more important impact on his team that year versus Shaq IMO.  That 76ers team was going nowhere fast without A.I.

And Addict4Sneakers, I kind of agree with you about Marion as a 2nd option but on the other hand Shawn Marion could end up with almost 20,000 points which is pretty good.

Philly had the best record in the East, tied for the second best record in the NBA and went all the way to the finals. If that season Iverson had isn't the definition of a MVP season then I don't know what is. In my recent memory only Lebron's Cleveland days and that year Kobe lead the Lakers to the playoffs with Smush and Kwame (the' 05-'06 season) have there been similar definitive MVP seasons.

This thread is just going to be a constant barrage of Steve Nash bashing. Why even bother?

Thansk for clearing that up DMX, I guess that makes sense. I just couldn't believe he said it when I heard it in that context

False argument...A historically great team that went 15-1 in the playoffs wouldn't have happened without Shaq, so that argument falls flat on its face.

Terry Pendleton in 1991

Pendleton: .319 BA, .410 OBP, 22 HRs, 86 RBIs, 94 runs, 10 stolen bases, 6.11 WAR

Barry Bonds: .292 BA, .363 OBP, 25 HRs, 116 RBIs, 95 runs, 43 stolen bases, 7.93 WAR, Gold Glove defense

There is absolutely no logical argument that Pendleton deserved the award over Barry.  None. The stats show that Bonds was more deserving.  This is also not to mention that the Pirates had the best record in the Major Leagues that year.

*EDIT*  Jumpman you beat me to it by a few minutes.

You mean 45 wins, third in the Pacific, 7th seed in the West.  And clear non-contenders.

the NBA MVP is a joke. that whole, best player on best team requirement is stupid.

also, why does the media vote for this award?

In Moseley's defense though 1982 was a strike season and they played 9 games. But still.

KARL MALONE DESERVED THE MVP OVER JORDAN IN 97.

I don't know how people have this insane notion that Jordan should have won the MVP every year he was in the league, like he wasn't seriously declining by 97 In fact Jordan should never have won that MVP in 98 either. He was taking more jumpers, getting to the line less, lowest effective field goal rates of his career. meanwhile Karl Malone was 270 pound robot scoring machine.

If malone was a scoring robot then Jordan was a scoring sentinel cuz he won the scoring title that year. His bulls also boasted the leagues best record...again. And not that it matters cuz the mvp was decided already but who won the championship that year? sure as hell wasnt utah. jordan was robbed but nobody wanted to give him the award over and over. And jordan once again led the league jn scoring and his bulls tied for the best record in 97-98 without scottie pippen for most of the season. he earned his last mvp the hard way. also...brees got robbed of nfl mvp in the 2009 and 2011 seasons (manning and rodgers won it respectively)

Can you tell me who and which team the Lakers lost to champ??

Exactly.  Kobe and his team were a non-************* factor that year.
