The Cowboys have literally been like three plays away from making the playoffs the last few years.

Its not ridiculous to predict they will make the playoffs. The NFL has proven once you make the playoffs anything can happen.

Exactly. It seems like they've consistently settled in right where they belong.

There's this rumor that the Cowboys are inconsistent or underachieving, but really they're just consistently average/mediocre.

They just don't have enough talent on the roster because their GM spends his money poorly.

My bold prediction that could end up looking very stupid at the end of this 2013 NFL season:

The Arizona Cardinals or the St. Louis Rams; one of them will finish in 2nd place in the NFC West. Meaning either my 49ers or the Seadderal Seahawks will finish #3 in the division. Don't have a prediction for which one of them would miss the playoffs but just got a feeling either SF/SEA is gonna disappoint badly this season frown.gifmean.gif

I've liked what the Cards/Rams have done this off-season. Too many people sleeping on both of these teams imo. This is the NFL where turnarounds happen more often unlike say the NBA where you usually have to go take your lumps before you make the big jump to playoff contender.

So frustrating. If a Steelers, Giants, Pats, Niners fan wants to say that then OK, but a fan of a franchise with one Superbowl appearance in 40 years and a total sub .485 record roll.gif nah get outta here.

I think SneakerPro meant why a fan can only call a team mediocre if the team he cheers for has won a Super Bowl/had tons of post-season success, etc.

A question I have after looking at some of your guys' predictions in here....

What spurns any of you to have the Lions finishing 2nd in the NFC North? No one will admit it, and maybe it's subconscious, but that 40-9 beating of the Patriots has to be a reason, right? But I bet none of you actually watched that game? Because if you had, you would've seen an extremely unimpressive Matthew Stafford, and an offense that was put in the red zone from the get-go multiple times because of Brady's and a few receivers mistakes (which you can definitely credit the Lions D partially for).

Stafford in 2011: 41 TDs, 16 INTs.
Stafford in 2012: 20 TDs, 17 INTs.

And if you've watched his performance at all in the preseason, you would see his mechanics haven't been fixed at all, and he's overthrowing receivers.

And, what did they get markedly better at that would make a 4-12 team turn into a Wild Card team? Don't give me the, "Well team's go from the bottom of the barrel to the playoffs every year!" Yeah, and if you look at those rosters and off-season acquisitions/departures of teams that have done that, you would find a trail that lead to their success. The Lions aren't THAT much better, at all.

If anything, the Bears, who finished 10-6 and only missed the playoffs because they were on the wrong side of a tiebreaker, are going to be the ones finishing second.

The Lions weren't blown out in really any game. They never got housed like typical 4-12 teams do.

They improved the biggest weaknesses on the team in the secondary and running back.

Bringing up Stafford TDs to interceptions isn't the argument to make considering the Lions led the league in receivers being tackled inside the 3 yard line. Leshoure's bum *** got 8 TDs because of this.

The Bears missed the playoffs with a historical level of production from their defense in which 4 of to the top 5 players are 30+.

Do you really think the Bears will be able to maintain that level of production from their defense.

They were in alot of those games last year tho. It's much more likely for Stafford to go for 40 tds then it's is 20. Megaton had 5 tds last year. Anyone really think that'll happen again? Reggie Bush will help Matt out too. I don't know if I have them making the playoffs but they'll be alot better.

Oh I and feel unless your team has won a championship and or made the playoffs 50% of the time in your adult life you have no right to call any other team mediocre.

Frankly the only fanbases with room to **** on someone else are the Pats, Steelers, Packers, Colts, Ravens, and Giants.

Every other team has pretty much been mediocre the last 20 years

For the record I think the Lions win between 7 and 9 games.

I'm concerned about Stafford but its the preseason and Calvin hasn't played in two preseason games.

The Lions defensive line will be either the best or second best in the NFL this year.

Reggie Bush is the best offensive player Calvin Johnson has ever played with.

So sensitive. I didn't say the Cowboys were a terrible franchise or the Seahawks were better. I said the Cowboys been consistently mediocre to average during the last 13 years of so (Jerry Jones GM era). Would you argue with that?

We've gone through three phases since then. Holmgren (pretty good), Ruskell (god awful), Schneider/Carroll (potential to be good). Haven't won anything to crow about.

Seahawks fans aren't predicting Super Bowl wins every single year when they're unable to make the playoffs, though.

the irony of Dallas fans is they always revert to the championship argument but that's why most of the clowns picked the Cowboys in the 90's; if that was the Chiefs they'd all be Chiefs fans today
