absolutely.

throw that old junk bimmer motor that cost your first born to rebuild when its going bad and swap in a bulletproof LS engine with either a t56 6 speed manual

or a 6L90 6 speed automatic.

here's someone with a older e36that put a LS swap into his ride with a kit made by samberg.

haha chill, s50 or especially the s54 aint no junk. I love the LS engine tho, great bang for the buck

You can get a ls1 to 500 hp with junkyard

components for cheap...its no contest.

word, for under 1000 your swap will be done and powerful as hell.

now that I got my bank job I'm making more money than before so my Camaro should be coming even sooner. Now I'm debating between an IROC and swapping for at least an LS3 or an '02 SLP Camaro. I would still want to swap but would most likely leave the LS1 in there and put some LS3 heads on it with better headers.

yo ninja, I recently got a job as a teller and now will have the ability to finally buy my Camaro by January hopefully.

Thinking either an IROC (year doesn't matter as I'll be swapping with an LS regardless) or an 02.

If I were to go with an 02 which already has an LS1, would it even be worth it to swap for an LS3 or LS7? Or what kinds of things can I do to the LS1 to make it even more powerful.

And if I were to go with an IROC, would it be that much more difficult to swap with an LS3 or LS7 than it would with a 4th gen?

Let me know if that didn't make any sense.

If your dead set on swapping a 4th gen, IMO there's no point in copping an LS car... might as well get a cheap clean 6 banger and swap that.

There are plenty of mods you can do to a LS1 to up your power, basic stuff like headers and a tune for a little boost or more complex stuff like Cams, modded gear ratios/High stall TCs, Stroker kits.... Then there's also always forced induction. The options are really endless and its a matter of how much power you want and think you can handle. Its advised to mod slowly and get used to your mods otherwise jumping from a 350hp car to a 550hp car overnight can lead to dangerous or even fatal results.

Dropping an LS drivetrain into a 3rd gen is remarkably simple. 3rd 4th gens have a very similar layout and the motors and rears are already basically a perfect fit... hell the interiors are basically transplantable too. Theses swaps have become very common, so the all the wiring harnesses and mounts you need are readily available unlike a 1st or 2nd gen swap where lots of parts are usually custom fabricated.

this is what I was thinking. The IROC would run me about $4,000 for a good condition one, an '02 SLP would run me about 8-10. I just can't decide on which to get.

FYI SLP Camaros werent really anything special. Basically nothing more than an intake/exhaust package... stuff you could easily do yourself. They dyno just about the same as any other LS1 Camaro and wont be worth any more in the future. If you can find one for a good price go for it, but dont let the seller convince you its drastically different.

The early SLP Firehawks were the real winners... Some 3rd gens had roll cages and fuel cells. These were a real street legal track car and will be highly sought after in the future.

if its already got a ls engine you can change heads, cam, rods, etc. and there's alot of interchangeable parts

wit other LS engines for further mods as well.

a LS7 has a higher displacement and some of its parts are not interchangeable with other LS engines.
