THE THREAD ABOUT SKATEBOARDING.

from what I've seen in the SBxAJ1 thread, I'm not liking the crease problems, I saw a guy here in my city with them and with the exact same ugly creasing on the left toe box. the color is amazing and will buy a pair and as well as the new Lance pair.
thats a shame they crease like that, i had no idea.  Are they that reflective material?  I was hoping with this new jordan x sb release the prices would drop on the Craig Stecyk ones and id be able to grab a pair a little cheaper.

Yeah, i think the Lance ones are dope.  Ive always loved the bones brigade and id love to have a pair of those or both.  But like others said, i doubt ill be able to get them at retail and i dont know that i like them enough to justify paying the insane resale prices that are coming.

Tempted to loosen up the trucks again after seeing this part. Koichiro Uehara rocking both trucks as loose as Daewon's front truck! Already riding Bones soft bushings so unless that gets "too easy", I'm not gonna mess with the no top bushing set up just yet.

This guy is an animal.

no way I can skate that loose. I wish I could find something comfortable. if I ride loose, I can't do flip tricks or grind as well, if it's tight I can't "skate" as well. maybe my trucks have something to do with it. I'm skating highs and Thunders for the first time ever, coming from skating Tensor lows pretty much my whole life.

the color is similar to the invisible cloak colorway.

I just checked ebay for the resell prices

First thoughts on watching that interview were:
1) Dylan's gonna get lung cancer soon smoking as much as he does.
2) He's right about skateboarding needing companies willing to push boundaries, but I don't know if FA is necessarily the company that will do it. It seems super contrived.
3) Regardless of how he says he feels about Street League, he still participates.

Continuing with my previous post about loose trucks, Matt Rodriguez.

This guy is pretty good, but still, why isn't Walker Ryan fully on adidas yet? Crappy sitar music?

Taking on a friend of a friend who wants to start skating. I'm giving them an old deck and selling them some new autobahns (with bearings) for cheap. General consensus was for trucks that they should just get Ventures since they're usually the cheapest decent brand. Been riding Indys and Thunders since forever and haven't ridden Ventures since my first few boards years ago. Are Ventures still decent? Or have too many even worse companies come out since then? I did mess around with Royals and Tensors back when I was working at a shop and got a decent employee discount, but I doubt they'll be much cheaper/better.

Ventures are still decent, the kingpin doesn't snap like the older ones did. my friend has a pair with bones medium bushings and feel great.

I only ride Indys now. Thunders and ventures I had before too, but Indys I preferred the most

I have to watch that later ^^^

another dope part from 'Something Sinister'

Saw mention of this pop up on the TWS Insta feed. It's interesting to see that it's possible, but I doubt Indy is making it worth this guy's time to not go and get a set of Aces if he likes the look of the 215 so much.

If there's any "hack" I want to see come back to skateboarding, it would be installing Grind King kingpins in trucks. It was one of those things people would do in the '80's and early '90's because the stock kingpins would get all destroyed from grinds. I hear it's still possible, but has gotten a lot more difficult since those kingpins with the knurls in them became standard.

Worst case scenario, I could buy a set of Krux since they have the inverted kingpins? I know the first ones were terrible, but I've ridden Tensors and Orions before so I doubt those could be worse. Not that I'd actually get a set of Krux (or anything else) until I actually need new trucks. Even with Bones bushings, new trucks suck to break in properly.

Krux team in China!

RIP Grind King

before I got my Thunders I had my mind set on a pair or Krux but the day I went to the shop they were gone. I really want to try a pair but idk if I'll go back to riding lows again.

Jason Hernandez KILLED it with his REDirect for The Berrics. haven't stopped watching it since it came out, I love these type of videos (QUIK, Danny Garcia vids posted earlier in the thread)

for Trevor Colden to be young still, the way he skates and pushes is so good.

Yo whatever happened to my son Gershon Mosely? I was watching some old transworlds and the globe video and dude used to kill it.

That REDirect vid

Also love vids like that

Following the skater all around the city making it look like so much fun

Makes you wonder how much longer people like Beagle can keep using the VX1000. I have a low tolerance for anything filmed recently that's not in HD quality. I can forgive the old stuff b/c they had what they had, but if guys are risking their bodies, the least they can do is film it in the best possible quality (and from multiple angles). That said, I hate how easy it is for anyone to film now. Hopefully, a lot of these kids grow up enough to realize that you cannot film an entire part in the street section of a skatepark.

Looks like another Japanese skateboard company just released a video.

Debating whether I should get it right away or wait for clips to surface on the Internet. Yuto Kojima is pretty sick.

Was curious about Lenz II but I heard that all the good parts were upped to YouTube. With Japanese skate videos costing 2x as much as a typical US skate video, I can't just rush off and drop money on videos indiscriminately.

Gershon is underrated for sure. When there were guys like him and Fred Gall killing it with all the switch tricks that are still kind of rare 10-15 years later, I can't really get too hyped about some kid who calls himself "Switch God". Keelan Dadd is good, but the nickname is overkill, the number of pros who aren't at the same level with switch tricks is pretty low.

Took the Zip Zinger out today before it started raining. I got some hills in my neighborhood, but since I haven't skated in a long time, and the sidewalks are covered in tiles, I was kind of discouraged form trying to hit them all today. Maybe I'd have better luck skating the streets late at night? I was almost psyched up to do it after reading this article though. Maybe it was just laziness since I didn't really want to walk back up after bombing the hills. And then there's those yellow bumps in the sidewalk for blind people that will take you out if you're not paying attention.

I saw Yuto skating in LA one time, his flip tricks are so fast and has a dope effortless style.

I forgot the name Gershon, I remember seeing that part as a kid

nice board!

I've been wanting to bomb Lombard St in SF for a while but it's way too packed when I go, I'll probably try it during the late night. I remember bombing the hill next to the 49ers stadium (Jamestown Ave) solo with brand new Spitfire's, it was the funnest/scariest experience in my life. got to the bottom out of breath and my legs shaking like CRAZY, my sole torn up bc I couldn't powerslide to slow down bc of the wheels being new.

CRIBS episode featuring PROD and Manny.

Thanks. I wasn't familiar enough with the layout of the sidewalks to risk filming as I was riding. Besides, with all the carving around (loose trucks) the footage might be nausea-inducing anyway. I'm gonna start going out for neighborhood skates more often to get used to rolling on tile. Maybe they do that because of the earthquakes? I remember seeing some gnarly ollie bumps that popped up after that last earthquake in SF.

I stopped riding Spitfires years ago. I felt like they flatspotted way too easily. But they do have a sick team and image. Daewon, Koston, Mariano, etc. riding Spitfires does not mean that they're the best product. They get a box full of wheels regularly! Must be annoying having to change out the wheels so often though.

On the subject of wheels, Satori put this compilation out.

Kinda been into colored wheels the past few years so I'm riding either Autobahn, Satori, Gold, or Alien/Habitat. Got a little too silly and got duped into getting those Flip striped wheels which almost immediately split. Lame surf shop that I bought them at wouldn't do anything about it either. "You shoulda got Spitfires, hur dur dur" was the comment from the guy who clearly did not skate. Lesson learned: colored wheels aren't weaker/softer than white wheels (if you get a decent brand), but don't get too silly. Swirls and or cored wheels: OK
Stripes: NO!

I forgot how bad the editing and camera angles were for CRIBS. How are we supposed to see the house when P-Rod and MSA are taking up 90% of the frame? Guess it was filmed before Jereme Rogers got arrested?

Spitfires do kinda suck, I had that pair for only a month and a half before getting flat spots (they were colored) I hear F4's are the equivalent to STF's. bought an OG pair of yellow clear Bones on ebay, haven't tried them out but they're wide as hell and 101 durometer, they might last last me 10 years

I hear good things about Satori and Gold, Autobahns are dope too, I miss my pair, they were so slippery. I think Satori started this thing where they make new wheels out of old ones (relive or relife) the color of them is nice (off white/light grey) but I hear they fall apart quick, maybe bc it was their semi first run but I will definitely keep my eyes out for further reviews.

been wanting to buy 'A Road Less Traveled' but everywhere I go it's $25, I just found some parts on youtube

I want the movie more for the behind the scenes/diary/interviews/pov stuff than the actual skateboarding in it.

Jaime Thomas

Tommy Sandoval (my favorite, he kills it, can't believe what he put out for this and Cold War)

Dane Burman

Sick spots but I feel bad for the locals seeing their spots get lit up like that. Worst case, some of them were spots that they drove by all the time and never even thought of skating them. It's probably worse in China after all those videos came out though.

Then again, the Chinese Converse team went to Russia.

And Mongolia, but maybe we shouldn't be jealous b/c those spots look extra crusty. Crazy ppl trying to take their boards and throw rocks at them doesn't seem fun either.

had to go to the bank today, wanted to skate there.

I get outside, all the streets are wet, big turnoff.

i didn't even go to the bank.

that would've been the first time i would've skated since before winter :smh:

Got a new deck the other day.

Shake Junt grip was like $10 :x

And I got an 8 and my board feels super heavy now.

I hope it gets better after I break it in.

Don't take this the wrong way, but my opinion is that it doesn't really matter which grip tape you get because they're pretty much all the same except for whatever cut-out or graphic they put on it. I know a lot of people who sand theirs down when they grip their board anyway. I used to dread anytime a kid with a beat to hell board would ask me to re-grip it when I used to work in a shop.

Gou Miyagi uses Japanese handkerchiefs instead of grip tape and I've seen some people use carpet on their cruisers.

Back during the late '90's I skated with a guy who rode his board with no griptape for a little while. It was peeling so he just took it all off and skated it like that for a few weeks after. It was pretty crazy to see someone doing switch frontside flips with no grip in a contest.

The sides of vulcanized shoes are pretty grippy to begin with so that would probably make it easier, but all the dust and dirt from being outside would start making the deck too slippery.

I realize that my boards are kind of heavy when I have to carry them around for long periods (crowded areas or when riding public transit) but I guess having bigger wheels makes up for it since I can go a little bit faster without pushing so much and have a smoother ride? A wider board with a flatter concave helped when I really wanted to get that flick down when I did flip tricks because I had to put in more effort. And they feel a bit more stable when doing grinds or slides or going fast in my experience. I never got into the whole obsession with super light decks, trucks, wheels, bearings, etc. but I remember seeing a lot of "research" that people did. Usually, the weight difference was only a few grams. Stevie Williams reportedly only uses two bolts per truck to attach his trucks, but I guess when you own a company (and don't seem to skate that much anymore) you can set up a new board by the time the bolts start getting loose.

I always prefer MOB bc of how rough it is and bc of my poop skate mob
laugh.gif
I think I've only used Jessup once and Black Magic about 3-5 times the rest has been MOB.

only OCD I have is that my front truck must have 3 bolts.

a pic or Erik Ellington writing to Antwuan Dixon, there's going to be a limited run of Dixon decks in June where proceeds go to Antwuan when he gets out to help him, so rad that they care so much about him, hopefully I snag a deck.

Went to Fat Bros (one of the OG skate shops in Nakano, Tokyo) and asked how much Lenz II was. Pretty much $40, so I didn't buy it. Out of curiosity for my friend who wants to start skating, I looked at how much the trucks were. Ventures were the cheapest at $60! I bought a T-shirt there the last time I went though, but even that annoyed me because it was like $30 for a pocket T. Best believe, I'm buying a bunch of stuff next time I'm in the US!

There's another RED camera re-edit on The Berrics, but I'm not sure how to embed it.

I like MOB b/c they have the holes which help preventing air bubbles, but probably skated Black Magic or Jessup most of the time. I think it's ridiculous how people seem to be claiming like any one griptape is better than another. That said, I'd rarely pay extra for grip tape. I expect it to be included in the cost of buying a deck.

Had the misfortune of watching this just now. Nyjah might be talented but, his kook levels cancel them out. A cracker sponsor?
