THE THREAD ABOUT SKATEBOARDING.

Weather permitting and I don't get too down in the dumps over ******* up my exam on monday, I will be going to the skate park for the first time in my life. What required tricks/manuevers should I know to have a good time? I can't grind and never went on a ramp/pool before. Only skate flatground

Start small if possible. Roll around near the bottom of the ramps/bowls and work your way up as you feel more comfortable. Loosen up your trucks if you're gonna skate a bowl since trying to carve with tight trucks is miserable. For grinding, maybe put your board on a low ledge and jump on it to grind a little. This is kinda risky if you're never grinded though. Noseslides are easy/fun to get into also. Depending on the layout of the park, you might be able to have a lot of fun just by rolling around and doing ollies here and there. It's easy to get bummed when you see all the locals killing it, but they're probably there all the time. Do what you can and try not to get in anybody's way.

WATER, I think you pretty much answered your own question about longboarders. I know there's people who do some sick things on them down big hills, but the typical longboarder most people seem to see are college kids who use them to get from class to class. It's definitely overkill IMO when they have a 3-4 foot longboards just for going across campus when a Penny or cruiser board would do just as well and take up less space. Heck, Gonz has been known to ride longer boards from time to time and EVERYONE loves him.

It could be that a lot of older skaters toughed it out during the years when skating wasn't as popular as it is now, and were even hated on for doing it so when they see all these new ppl flood in now that it's mainstream, it kind of annoys them. Longboarders are one of the more visible iterations of this influx of new ppl IMO. Just my opinion as an older skater who remembers a time when there weren't longboards sold in every store.

I always feel bad for skaters like this. They're so great winning everything getting first but they slowly start falling lower on the leaderboards

Mark though, still skating and having fun at whatever age he is

I can't believe I watched that entire Gonz video, especially after knowing that his channel is full of stuff like that! Cool board shape but I got dizzy from the filming. Main thing I got out of the video was, "just go roll around". I think sometimes I get too into, "well if I'm not going to try/land any tricks, there's no point in skating".

Let Nyjah win his contests. Seems like the "core" ppl will never accept him anyway. I thought it was strange that Thrasher upped his "Fade to Black" video but still trashed him on Skateline at every opportunity. All those contest wins won't translate to a SOTY. Sorry.

Bobby Worrest however, might have a chance at a SOTY?

More footy from Bobby"s Korean friend with the high half-cab heelflips.

P-Rod never really excited me, despite how good he is. If I had to choose one guy I"d like to see win Street League, it'd be Ishod for sure. But then again, contests don't mean anything to me. How many contests did Gonz, Mike Carroll, Guy Mariano, Marc Johnson, Daewon Song, Dennis Busenitz, Huf, Gino, etc. ever win?

Yeah, I can't really do anything serious on the skateboard until soccer season ends.

My coach would kill me if I had to sit out senior year. That means just riding around mainly.

I've never enjoyed watching P Rod either, really technical and  good, but boring.

I enjoy watching more fast paced videos with lines or just fun stuff like gonz

in his younger days he was fun to watch, not gonna lie these past 3-4 years he hasn't been as exciting.
picked these up. Haven't gotten to test em out but it feels really good on foot.
I have these in grey and blue, super comfy, won't be skating them soon though, I have a few still on rotation right now.

BWorrest is getting my vote for SOTY.

Filament shoes, these look like those Kalis DC's ^^^ and Hammers.

went hill bombing in Hollywood Friday night, forgot how fun and scary it was. it was my friend's first time and as I was explaining to him what to do and not to do, he just took off. he went on the sidewalk as I was telling him to scoot on the street since they were lit up and obviously better to bomb, the sidewalk was 90% tree shadows and going fast and seeing these shadows tripped me out. anyways, found him half way limping, dude got scared and stepped to the side and bent his knee pretty bad and crashed against a couch and bushes. I just flew by him.

thinking about getting these, I have gone through 3 pairs of trucks in 3 years

I remember them lasting YEARS back in the day.

I'm a Tensor guy but all these bad reviews on them are keeping shops from selling them, I want another pair of magnesiums.

I didn't think it was slander, just my opinion. Can't blame those guys though. Lotta money in those big contests.

Related: PJ Ladd used to be so exciting back in the Wonderful Horrible Life days and now I couldn't care less about his skating. It's like he got less and less creative as his career progressed. Sorry if it was already posted, and maybe this is just nostalgia talking but, Wonderful Horrible Life was, to me, his best part ever.

At the very least, he didn't fall off as bad as Pappalardo?

How do Tensors turn? I had a set of the very first ones with the sliders and they were way too "stable" (didn't turn). I know Daewon can turn, but that's because he doesn't use a top bushing on his front truck.

MikeMo is down again. ACL, PCL, and LCL.

Sorry for the double post but, had to post this and it wouldn't show up in the previous post when I tried to edit it.

Eli Reed at the Playboy Mansion, in small part thanks to Tenga (Japanese sex toy company).

I saw they had a Keith Haring and a HUF collab product already. Is this gonna take off like energy drink or griptape sponsors?

I guess it makes sense for Japan though to have "celebrity endorsements" even for stuff like this. No one bats an eyelid when former pop stars end up in constipation medicine commercials.

Jaime Thomas' Battle Commander, my favorite one so far.

innnnn

does anyone else skate Jordans?

Around 2002 a friend of mine had a poster/magazine cutout on his wall with someone skating in white/silver Jordan XI lows

I wanna say is was Karl Watson or Benny Fairfax... but I really dont know.

He was wearing these:

It's not on YouTube yet but, Wes Kremer's new part for Thrasher is ridiculous! Sorry Nyjah, it doesn't matter how many Street League contests you won this year when parts like this exist. Based solely on video parts online I've seen, Kremer or Worrest are frontrunners for SOTY. Has Daewon ever won it? If not, he should be considered too. Maybe a lifetime achievement award, or something?

Here's the trailer on YouTube which will hopefully get you interested enough to watch it on the Thrasher site. Switch laser flip down 10 stairs like it's nothing, sheesh! Tons more tricks that will make you slap your head in disbelief! Click the link!

Watching the new Weekend Buzz w/ Stevie and Nyjah didn't make me dislike Nyjah any less. Sorry. Maybe he can earn some street cred on King of the Road? As much as I like Enjoi, Jimmy Carlin tries way too hard to be funny when he isn't.

A Stevie and Kalis episode would have been sick!

I totally agree with some of the comments that they should sell some of the half finished ones because they look pretty sick. Either that or a color negative limited run, or something.

Jeremy Klein was pretty ahead of the curve with all the sick stuff he did in the late '80's. Back Smith/Monty grind on a handrail? What?

Do yourself a favor and watch Rubbish Heap. It's probably the first documentation of Rodney Mullen's transition from freestyle to street and the whole board focusing phenomenon.

Nyjah has been killin it for years and taking over any competition. As long as you're consistent, you can't lose. That boy got some tricks up his sleeve

^^^You can have all the tricks on lock but if it look like poo, I'm you tubing Gino the king of what....King of style.

You mean Charles Bukowski said it best and then Anthony Pappalardo took a screenshot and posted it on IG? I'm just messing though. I'm not saying pros need to be posting skate clips/pics all the time but, when they start going overboard with the memes, promo stuff, party pics, and motivational quotes, I start wondering if they're even skating any more. Stuff like Insta kind of ruins how people see a lot of well known skaters IMO.

Nyjah (and most of those guys who take stuff like Street League more seriously than putting out new video parts) is like the San Antonio Spurs for me. I know they won all those championships and are fundamentally good but I can't get excited about them at all. But luckily for them, there's a lot of people who do and that's why they won't go away.

I don't think the "technical = bad style" or "simple = good style" opinion is valid since some people can make tech look amazing and other people can make the easiest trick look terrible. Besides, style is all subjective.

Man, some people be skating in Timbs like 20 years ago.

Kyle James

Pepe Martinez (R.I.P.)

those videos reminded me of a time my homie and I were skating a long three block and came across two other friends that were walking to a party and both were wearing Timbs and both 360 flipped, FS flipped and double flipped them with ease.

I wanted to buy the new OX blood colorway of the Dylan's but the leather ones are so sexy too, holding off on both till I make room for more shoes.

also, I'm making the leap to a man size board, 7.9s were too hard to find, I've been skating 8s lately but don't like them, debating on going 8.1 or 8.25, gotta get on my 8.1 to see how it feels again.
