Wasn't New York City More Grimey In The 80s & 90s In Constrast To Now

Don't deflect what's happening in your backyard to what happened in Miami.

These people helped destroy the same community they laundered their money in. They're not Robin Hood.

Ninjahood, I look at those pictures and ask my pops if it was really like that. He said it was nasty as hell, but it's good seeing progress and the renovations going throughout the Bronx. Looks like a war zone back then, just sad....

The South Bronx is an area of the New York City borough of The Bronx, in the U.S. state of New York. The geographic definitions of the South Bronx have evolved and are disputed but certainly include the neighborhoods of Mott Haven and Melrose. The neighborhoods of Tremont, University Heights, Highbridge, Morrisania, Soundview, Hunts Point, Longwood and Castle Hill are sometimes considered part of the South Bronx.
The South Bronx is part of New York's 16th Congressional District, the poorest Congressional district in the United States. The South Bronx is served by the NYPD's 40th,[sup][1][/sup] 41st,[sup][2][/sup] 42nd,[sup][3][/sup] 44th,[sup][4][/sup] and 48th[sup][5][/sup] Precincts. The South Bronx is also known worldwide as the place of birth of hip-hop culture.[sup][6][/sup][sup][7][/sup][sup][8][/sup][sup][9][/sup][sup][10][/sup][sup][11][/sup][sup][12][/sup]

Don't confuse the south Bronx and other small pockets with the rest of the borough.

to 2/3rd of da boro is "small pockets" ite...
laugh.gif

them houses are da small pockets...those were da vestiages of da italians that used to live in da bx (bronx tale)

A lot of that "reinvesting" was drug money that was laundered. More so about them keeping that money than caring about the neighborhood.
This

Majority of businesses in the Heightz

3-4 barbershops per block
2-3 bodegas per block
2-3 restaurants per block
Random sneaker store
Random chill spot

Half of those got funny money going thru it
laugh.gif

Ain't nothing too crazy
laugh.gif

The reason it does so well is also the overpopulation of the area. You got 5/6 people in a 2 bedroom that never leave the area
laugh.gif

Lets not pretend it's some economic plan that should be spread everywhere

grin.gif

puhh leez, you got places in da united states that would BEEEG for that kinda prosperity.

our economy is self sustaining, as more and more people get money they reinvest in right back in da neighborhood.

Washington heights is a BIG commercial and political sector for all things Dominican.

blocks upon blocks of small business owners, no major big box retailers trying to move everyone out, everything is grown organically.

matter fact, dominicans are SPREADING to da bronx and in effect, bringing up those neighborhoods surrounding da heightz in a major economic way.

da bronx was BAAAAD in da 70's 80's all da way up to da mid 90's

landords burning everything up to get insurance money.....crack, crime, etc.

We get it, your a proud Dominican.

Cool.

Drug money being funneled thru funny buisnesses based off the small minded mentality of the area isn't some sound economic plans.

It works.

But 2 wrongs don't make a right.
you act like thats da only way its been happening

da funny thing about gentrifyers is they are QUICK to kick dirt on heighborhoods they're DYING to live in...

laugh.gif

if my hood or brooklyn is so "ghetto and bad" why these hipsters DYING to move in and pay 4x da rent? why dont they stay in their big houses in da suburbs? oh i know why...

cuz da burbs is da most overrated living situation ever planned.

Nevermind...now dude throwing shade on the burbs of NY which is where I live...lmao...he must be crazy I love living in a quiet WESTCHESTER hood

I do admire what uptown has and is becoming tho..

The Bronx has some nice areas, but for the most part, the rest of the Bronx is how you think it would be ...or worse. I don't go to the Bronx unless I have to.

White Plains is over rated ....

"Drug money, it's gon' buy you what you want"

I showed him what his block looks like now, and he told me they fixed it up real nice. Where there's buildings now near his school was nothing but empty lots, his grandmas building, and the school. Used to play in those abandoned buildings, and they would make drug labs in them. :smh:

I didn't even know white plains was rated.

I've never in my life ever heard someone say they wanted to visit white plains road.

White Plains is outside of the Bronx ...they call it a Bronx suburb. There's some REALLY nice houses in Riverdale, usually when people can't afford it they get suggested "White Plains" as a Bronx suburb.

That's cool and dandy.

But as always with every discussion you brought up the heightz into it.

So that's what we're talking about now, not the burbs.

Alot of those buisnesses you have were founded off drug money and still are today.

Not saying all, but a chunk are.

And the community also strives off the small mindedness of never leaving the heights and that being all they know.

So yes it's better that the money gets repumped back into the area, but lets not act like it's all off the hard workers back.

It's drug moneyz.

That's not some sound economic plan to revitalize a area.

*waits for some obscure article from google or a rap song from the 90s*
you act like you're PERSONALLY doing da ATF drug bust yourself...eff outta here with that, you dunno squat about why my hood is pumping now.

laugh.gif
when drugs was REALLLLY moving in da heightz back in da 80's-90's this hood wasn't NEARLY as nice as it is nice, so there goes your flimsy story.

most of that drug money went back to DR, while harlem dealers like rich and alpo was spending it in da hoods, yayo, and wild cowboys were sending all their money

back to da motherland.

my hood is da dominican mecca, and our people take great pride into environment, THATS why its coming up now.

An important piece of the facelift uptown has gotten is Mateo, dude has always done positive **** for his people, remember that toys for guns drive back in the 90's I believe...was mind blown when I found out he owns a big percentage of the businesses on dyckman...dude is swimming in money and mamis....last time I was at the Marina dude walked by our bed with two BADDDDDD chicks...omg..

I've never heard of it referred as that.

When people in the bronx talk about white plains they usually mean the road.

Not the city which is like 20 miles away.

But you right about it being overrated. It is pretty though.

 :smh: act ignorant when it's to your satisfaction.

I've waked thru your hood, scene stuff get dropped off back and forth thru NJ over the GWB.

Either by car or even on the lil buses.

Not to mention your bodegas with 3 empty fridges and 1 gallon of milk.

But nah, your right

Lmao....I know what you mean, ninja can't be naive and act as if drug money has nothing to do with the upbring of these businesses..

GTHOH white plains NY has NO association whatsoever with the Bronx, once you crossover that line from The Bronx into WESTCHESTER, you are no longer in the BX, I live within walking distance of 241st and I'm a WESTCHESTER resident..

propaganda.

google maps is so easy to use, why dont you point these spots out right now since you're SO SURE....

da majority of investments are coming from immigrants opening up brand new stores that cater to da neighborhoods.

all those "front spots" you're talking about dissipated in da 90's...most were electronic stores that catered to brand new drug money.

there was a electronic store every other block back in da day so it was easier to wash money with expensive TVs and etc.

everything that's happening now is organic growth from within.

you dont even live here, so stop actling like you know what you're talking about...why dont post on your real account? that troll

act of yours is long in da tooth.

white plains road in da bronx =/= white plains NY...

with that said, yonkers and mount vernon is also in westchester county, joints might as well be part of da bronx
laugh.gif

Is drug money invested into the community such a bad thing tho?  I mean ****, if it wasn't for all the coke money poured into miami, it could very well be another southern backwoods hick town today.
