Condo developers build separate entrances for lower income residents

Then finish the statement to her, "But because we are clearly not in the same social class or tax bracet baby, we cannot walk through the same door as them. But we live amongst them, which makes it better."
I personally do not care about walking through a door. If it saves me 500$ and allows me provide for my baby girl better opposed being unable to put food on the table. I will walk through whatever door you want. Tell me I have to climb the walls like spiderman and I'll do that to provide better

Are these people being forced to live there??...this is the upper west side fam, right on the skyline...you want to live there knowing damb well you are wayyyyyy out your league?...is common sense bruh, you don't want to feel like less because you don't make as much, don't live amongst them.

I was with ya'll on wanting to live there because of location & (Probably) size of apartment... but Who the **** cares if you live amongst millionaires who literally don't even wanna remind themselves you exist in their building .

Living around millionaires doesn't make you a millionaire, nor will it really bump yopur social status. that just being Corny.

And No your actually not way out of your league because you won't have access to the skyline considering all the "poor" apartments will be facing the outside, the pool, b-ball courts, Gym, spa etc etc those aren't available to you either.

Basically they stripped away EVERY single aspect that is a draw about living on the UES outside of the actual proximity to the city. And once again the "poor" apartments start at 1800$ a month. It's not like dudes are paying project prices for these apartments. 1800 can get you a nice apartment in the outside boroughs.

That's what I'm saying, these people are entitled to feel a certain type of way, hell I would, son I'm paying 5-10k monthly and my downstairs neighbor is paying 1k

Where is the fairness in that..

You like it, I love it. Like I said I am different. I don't come from the same era as you therefore I believe we see things differently. Not saying your way of thinking is wrong, I think its flawed, but if it works for you it isnt wrong in my book. I just wish we would get off of that mind set and actually do something about stuff like this. I coach kids and I tell them everyday never take the shortcuts. I am a firm believer of working smarter and not harder, but taking a shortcut and letting others undermine you and under value who you are in society should never happen. The only reason we have civil rights is because people stood up and said nah this is not going to happen anymore. I am tired of being treated like I am not worth anything. Imagine if they wouldve had you guys' way of thinking back then? Oh nah im cool as long as me and my family good then I can deal with segregation. Its not that bad just dont sit in certain areas. I can do that. Dont eat in certain areas. Oh and yes in case you forgot enter a building from a different location. :smokin

In airplanes, people pay more for first class. These people are separated from the coach people. The first class people are segregated in a completely different area of the plane. They pay significantly more for the amenities. If I feel things are unjust, I will be the first one to have my voice heard.  You're trying to compare what happened in the civil rights era (vicious beatings, killings, rape, segregation) with walking through a different door for paying less. Walking through a different door is not where I make my stand.

The fairness is that your "neighbors" won't have the same views as you, won't have access to the pools, won't have access to the courts, gyms, etc etc. I HIGHLY doubt they will have the same sized apartments, they won't have the same doormen, they won't have the same decor in the entrances of the buildings.

They surely won't get the same treatment from management and service that those in the "wealthy" apartments get and they will surely get the Grade A experience of being treated as a peasant by those in the same building.

I would say those paying 5K a month have a VERY SIGNIFICANT difference in living situations than those paying close to 2K in rent.

And the ONLY reason these affordable (Although you must make 10K over the average US Salary to even be considered) apartments are being placed here is so developers can continue to gobble up more & more land. If it was up to developers ALL those apartments would be 5K & up.

So buying a coach class ticket is the same as being told to enter your residence from a different door, because you do not pay as much as the other tenants. Got ya. As far as the civil rights movements a lot of the beatings, rapes, killings were an off set of people standing up for their freedom and EQUALITY(keyword). So literally people have died, were beat, raped, and tortured so things like this wouldnt happen. But yet we are in this thread.

So then WHY would they want to live there?...ya trying to mesh social classes like is all good....NO man! Some people work HARRRRDDDD to make something of themselves, some rather pop multiple kids and live off the government, FOH bro...nothing wrong with different social classes, as long as you live within your social class is all good...you want to live amongst millionaires and be treated equally, go out and become a damb millionaire, we don't live in a third world country, we live in a country where if you work hard enough, are ambitious and smart enough with your money, you can in fact climb the social classes

Person pays for a coach class ticket for 1/5th price of first class, is segregated to different area of plane, with less amenities.

Person pays for rent 1/5th (way less than in reality) upper class, is segregated to different entrance, with less amenities

They are not EXACTLY THE SAME, this is an analogy (a similarity between like features of two things, on which a comparison may be based). These analogies are often used to compare like things to make a point.

You're getting what you pay for. This isn't some separate but equal ish. Race thread is inescapable

Yes it's bad, but if the people who will be renting out the space don't mind, it shouldn't be an issue. They'll know up front about it.

 Stick to snapping selfies in J Crew fam. Social commentary really just isn't your strong suit.

I can't understand if you're serious or not by the way you're typing...

People are really in here complaining about a separate door. It's called getting amenities because some people can afford to have them. Unless this 2nd door is some rat infested, **** smelling hole in the wall I don't see the issue. They should be happy with getting a $1000-1500 condo on the UWS. They shouldn't expect to have everything someone making twice as much as them does even if they're in the same building.

Like others said give me that and I'll use the 2nd door everyday.

You know what continue your day young sir.... Because it's clear that 1) your making generalizations based on stereotypes... 2) you have ignored every single stat between the growing up rich & growing up poor that disputes Everything you just stated.

America where if your Smart, ambitious enough and smart with your money you can climb social classes.... until you realize that we are almost Dead last in generations being able to climb social classes but yea love your american dream.

To be fair the low income tenants lucky enough to land these apartments should look at this as a small price to pay, if I was in their shoes I wouldn't care much, I'm practically living in an apt worth millions for what I would pay living in the crappiest part of the Bronx, the upper citizens wanna feel almighty?...let them be, I'll gladly take my seperate entrance if that's what it takes to have an apt there for a couple of hundred a month...

I just don't understand how the entrance to your own building is an amenity. This is not a club or a plane

don't even waste your time fam apparently.... if you don't make enough money to pay 5K + a month rent your a poor leecher who sits at home all day & pops out kids. The fact that this comes from someone who claims they grew up poor disgusts me.

I kind of got a feeling of your envy of the rich based off your the few post in here.... but that statement is filled with self hate my man & it all makes sense now.

The plane analogy sucks. You don't enter through the emergency exit when you board with coach class tickets.

The entrance is the crux of the issue. No one is complaining about not receiving amenities.

Dude is completely oblivious. The aforementioned post reeks of separation from reality. Folks get opportunity, make a few dollars, buy a few overpriced garments & all of a sudden everyone else is beneath them.

again, where do you draw the line? Your logic is "I wouldnt mind being treated like a second class citizen as long as I could get a deal in a really nice area of Ny Im not wanted in."
Situation A: You have to enter your apartment at a specific entrance, but you pay 1000$/monthly

Situation B: You can enter your apartment wherever you want, but you pay 1500$/monthly

Take your pride, my poor self will take the 500$/ month
Add to situation A a smaller amount of square feet, and no access to the building amenities. How fast you think they fixing that specific entrance elevator if it breaks down oppose to the elevator facing the river? Man please you choose situation A
