***Official Breakfast Club Interview Thread***

And Lil B should send his producers to Nas, Talib Kweli and Canibus, then catch the world's greatest fade

if riff raff was a culture vulture plenty of houston rappers wouldve pulled his card by now

hes basically a troll version of paul wall

Cats kill me with this. That's part of what makes an artist who he is, his ear for music. If Nas, Talib, and Canibus choose to rap over wack production, then that reflects their artistry.

Em has been trash since 2004. That's 12 years.

Prime Em (98-03) was amazing though.

I don't mind white rappers at all. It's really the media and mainstream fans who take it and run with it. The worst appropriators are the Pop stars.

Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber, Katy Perry,
Taylor Swift etc are horrible. Especially Miley and her whole "twerking" thing. Look at her hopping on the "LBGT" wave now that the black "ratchett" wave has bored her.

Bieber and Cyrus will be beloved by mainstream white america again in no time. They've already started their PR run smh.

you're horrible.
:rolleyes

Yawn at this 'white' rapper convo....riff raff and Em are not on the same level. From ghostwriting for Dre to consistently produced CDs make his bonafides. em has classic lines, classic songs, and arguably a classic disc in the Slim Shady LP. Riff raff is still trying to come up with a classic line. Rappers the lighter shade of human have been in the hip hop culture and will continue to be in the culture - from the beasties (80s), 3rd bass (90s), et al. -- the conversation is a moot point unless you talking about transcending race.

We just saying he's been wack for a decade

So does this mean Nas, Kweli, and Canibus stink, if their weak production reflects their artistry?

Weak beats shows their ear for production stink. That's part of who they are though.

Although the Nas = wack beats argument is overblown

Chatty and Post Malone with the trolling :smh:

I thought his interview with Elliot and B Dot was cool, but I don't think Chatty was interested in him from the beginning.

I can't relate, and I find his voice painful to listen to.

Only song I ever enjoyed of his was Forgot About Dre. Like I said they guy can rap, he just doesnt make good music to me. Like Good music is stuff you can "feel", and Em's stuff is just sounds if that make sense, I can hear him clearly but dont feel him at all.

I got a question.

When we talk about white rappers / white pop artist etc. being culture vultures what culture are they actually stealing?

they're just using dames word adding it to any white rapper they dont like,

but dame was really talking about the people running the music industry just profiting off our music not really caring for these rappers well being and not showing them how to manage their money properly

Oh okay, in that case I understand it.

Because I had this discussion with my brother just now about this. The whole culture vulture is a hot take that's thrown around a lot lately, and i'm like what culture? The same culture that pushes someone like Future to the forefront who celebrates harmful drug use? I just feel like our "culture" attaches itself to and takes pride in so much meaningless stuff and proclaim it as our culture.

White girl wears braids "Look! she's a culture vulture" White girl who twerks "She's stealing culture look at her" just silly stuff like that.

It's mainly dudes on here who throw that term around for any music act that isn't centered around negativity.

You seem to be combining to different sides of the same thing "culture vulture" and appropriation...to make that tired "black people need to do better" argument.

Like black people are the only ones who celebrate doing drugs or meaningless stuff :rolleyes

When black people wear braids etc it's called ghetto or unprofessional by the mainstream...when white people wear it them it's referred to as edgy or chic.

Same goes with any other type fashion or dance.... black/brown women been shaking their behind forever Miley Cyrus does it's something new and she's the queen of twerk.

Those are just a few examples of why people feel some type of way. It seems insignificant but it's just a part of the bigger issue.

WHAT?! That's not what I was trying to do at all

Anyway, moving on. Back to regularly scheduled programming...

Had no idea jordin sparks and sage the gemini were dating.

Sage's raps are cringeworthy af but he has the slaps for sure.

Using black struggle/stereotypes to prosper.

For example, when Iggy repackages the dope that Trina sold a decade ago to white Starbucks drinking teenage girls, I definitely view it as cultural appropiation, because she speaks with an Australian accent in regular conversation, but when she raps she is a shucking and jiving Miami rachet who raps about "murder business".

But I don't think this applies to Post Malone because he's rapping about generic ****. In fact, he even said he doesn't consider himself a rapper. He's a PND/Future hybrid for white frat boys. The cornrows and braids could be viewed as cultural appropriation, but I think that's more following the trend on Tumblr and **** where nerdy looking white boys ironically dress up in fitteds, du-rags, gold teeth and Dipset shirts. Corny yes, but I don't know if I really should be mad over it or it's just fake outrage. But that's a subculture the general public really ain't aware of so I could see how it could come off as culture vulturing.

Personally, I don't see why dude is on the Breakfast Club trying to win over the urban audience. Go introduce them white boys to autotune, rolling hi hats, and 808s. Give them a champion in that lane, you not showing us anything new. If I was him, I'd be grinding hard on the pop stations and on Disney Channel and ****, coming hard for Bieber's crown.

I think the braids thing holds more merit because black women really aren't allowed to/are judged for wearing braids/their natural hair in the workplace and army and **** meanwhile when white women start doing it, it's trendy and edgy.

To flip it on our side, it would be like us being judged and not being able to get a job with the Duke Starting Five cut and then Justin Bieber comes out on Ellen tomorrow with an Axe Gelled Up Thot Fade and now it's the new hot **** while just a week ago we were nappy headed ****** for wearing the same ****.

They are allowed to wild out and express themselves meanwhile we have strict lines to stay within.

The controversy over the twerking thing was I guess people was just tired of white people like Miley and Bieber using black trends to rejuvenate their careers when Disney doesn't want them because they aren't cute little child stars anymore.
