When it was first announced that Xbox One had an HDMI pass-through port allowing for other devices to have their video routed through Microsoft's new console, a common question was was whether this feature would support PlayStation 4. As it turns out, it can support "any HDMI device," including PlayStation 4.

During a Microsoft presentation at the Tokyo Game Show, Xbox director of product planning Albert Penello was asked about the HDMI pass-through port supporting PlayStation 4, GameSpot reports. Although he did not respond to that specific question, he did later provide an answer to that query when he stated, "any application can be snapped to a game...this could be the live TV feed, so if you wanted to be playing Ryse and Killzone at the same time, you could snap that," referring to Xbox One exclusive Ryse: Son of Rome and PlayStation 4 exclusive Killzone: Shadow Fall.

The snapping Penello is referring to is Snap Mode, part of Xbox One's interface that allows for multiple things to be displayed on-screen at the same time, be it a game and an Internet browser, two games, a game and a movie, a game and Skype, and so on. Snap Mode supports content coming through the HDMI pass-through port, which can reduce or eliminate the need for Xbox One owners to change inputs on their TV or receiver.

Pointless, input lag would make playing a game that way unbearable.

Yea its cool you can plug it in but seems pointless. The hdmi in seems to be made for something that always on and running like a tv cable box.

2. Is the Xbox required to connect to the internet at least once every 24 hours so it can be operable?

3. Is there any stipulation in regards to pre-use games or using your already purchased games in secondary xbox's?

4. Why are the controllers requiring batteries unlike the PS4?

5. Unbais responses - which one is looking better PS4 or XBOX?

6. Any other crazy stipulations?

1. The kinect can be unplugged, but naturally the voice navigation stuff wont work. You dont need it .
2. The 24 hour check in is gone. The console does require a 1 time "activation" when you buy it. Basically to download a patch that takes the check in away.
3. No other stipulations by microsoft. U-play is still in place with Ubisoft on both consoles. As for the second part of your question, do you mean digital games?
4. Probably so that you buy a charge n play kit eventually.
5. The ps4 has better specs than the xbox, if thats what your asking.
6. They say dont put it vertically sense the optical drive isnt designed for it, also the fans are on the top.

1. Kinect is not require to be plugged in.

2. You need to connect once when you get your system to install a update. After that you no longer need to be connected to the internet ever again.

3. Its like the 360 now regarding used games. You can buy sell trade however you want.

4. Idk you have to purchase a plug and charge kit.

I was asking because I always have liked XBox over PS because of the gaming experience online and stuff.

However, after I heard all the BS they were trying to pull, I was going to jump ship quick. The kinect was a privacy violation, logging in every 24 hours didn't make sense and having to pay additional fees to play games that already have been purchased before was BS. I still don't get why they couldn't make their controllers rechargeable, but **** it ...

I have to consider the PS now since they have stated, their online gaming is their focus of effort and the PS is suppose to be twice as powerful as the Xbox, so lets see. If developers start developing games that are superior in graphics - I might have to break the loyalty ...

Microsoft on Xbox One vertical orientation: "Do it at your own risk"

The Xbox One won't support vertical orientation, and could damage the console, according to Albert Panello, senior director of product management and planning at Xbox.


Panello revealed to GameSpot at the Tokyo Game Show, "We don't support vertical orientation; do it at your own risk." He clarified that "it wouldn't be a cooling problem, we just didn't design the drive for vertical. Because it's a slot loading drive, we just didn't design it for both".

The Xbox One isn't the only system to feature a slot loading drive; both the PlayStation 3--original and slim models--and PlayStation 4 have a similar design, and users are free to orient those consoles horizontally or vertically without risking damage to the console.

Panello stated that Microsoft discovered that "we found, interestingly enough, that 80 percent of people, believe it or not, have their Xbox [36 horizontally".

The Xbox One is scheduled for launch in North America, most European markets, Australia, and New Zealand on November 22 this year, with follow-up releases in Japan and the remaining European markets in 2014.

Microsoft just did not explain it well enough. You were able to play your games on up to ten consoles yours/a friends/a family members as long as they were on your friends list or you signed in with your account. Do you believe that your phone is a privacy violation? How often do you not have an internet connection? I'm good with it either way I always have the internet at the house if it were to be out for days I could feather my phone once every 24 hours. Don't care for or about the kinect. I would have liked to be able to play a game that one of my homies bought to see if I want to purchase it or if short, just play through it after they're done.

I do hate the battery thing though

I think that the used game policy was the real back breaker for alot of people. Like I think people wouldve gotten over the check in thing, and those people who live in the middle of nowhere would just buy another console. But like people really cant live without their used games.

If that was successful we would be much better off in my opinion. gamestop is a joke $5 off for a used game that they paid 15 bucks for, I'd rather pay the 5 and buy it new. If you needed to sell your games I can't see it being much worse than the way they are sold now (gamestop)

I figure the games I have for my 360 will hold me for at least another year, maybe more. Hopefully by then, there's a solid lineup of games out and a price drop for the one. For me, not picking up at launch means missing out on Killer Instinct. It's looking pretty damn solid and a lot of fun.

When I say used games I also mean borrowed games. You couldn't just borrow a game from a friend because his copy would be tied to his account. You'd have to buy a license.

I'm no fan of GameStop and the policies wouldn't have affected me at all, but a lot of people don't feel that way
