Microsoft demonstrates Halo 4 streaming from the cloud to Windows and Windows Phones

Microsoft is building its own cloud gaming service. Company officials demonstrated a prototype of the service during an internal company meeting today. Sources familiar with the meeting revealed to The Verge that Microsoft demonstrated Halo 4 running on a Windows Phone and PC, both streaming the game from the cloud. We're told that the concept service runs smoothly on both devices, and that Microsoft has managed to reduce the latency on a Lumia 520 to just 45ms.

We understand that Microsoft is building the service as a way to stream games to its Windows devices. Microsoft's demonstration included a Windows Phone with a Xbox controller attached through an accessory, and a low-end hybrid PC. Microsoft has not yet branded the cloud games service, and officials stressed it was simply prototype at this stage. It appears to be an answer to Sony's acquisition of Gaikai's streaming technology that the company plans to use for PS3 and PS4 game streaming sometime in 2014.

"Hints at cloud backwards compatibility for Xbox One"

Microsoft has been gradually building a cloud service for Xbox One games, but the company also hinted that it may be able to stream older games to provide backwards compatibility. Microsoft's senior director of Xbox, Albert Penello, said "it could be more complicated things like rendering full games like a Gaikai and delivering it to the box," in a recent interview with Gamespot. "We just have to figure out how, over time, how much does that cost to deliver, how good is the experience."

When I saw that article, I wondered if it could be used in the future with this

Microsoft is developing a games console just for China

http://www.geek.com/games/microsoft-is-developing-a-games-console-just-for-china-1571637/

China isn’t one for embracing the latest technology, and in particular games consoles. Typically the latest console hardware doesn’t launch there for many years after other territories have it, if at all. But Microsoft is working around any rules that block the use of such machines in China by developing an games console specifically for the country.
There’s much more chance of success in China if you work with a Chinese company, and Microsoft has chosen to do exactly that for this new games console. A new company has been created called E-Home Entertainment Development that is only 49 percent owned by Microsoft. The other 51 percent is controlled by Chinese company BesTV New Media Co
No specific details about the new China-only Xbox have been released yet, but it is thought the console will be named the Bestpad and is based on Xbox tech. Its main functions will be to play games and stream media to millions of Chinese homes.

It would make sense in that case, because itd be a great way to stream their backlog right into a pad rather than sell copies to people in China. MS are making moves

Wow pretty smart of them, lots of money to be made in China. One of the biggest untapped markets.

I'M NOT EVEN SURPRISED BY THIS. LIKE I SAID BOTH CONSOLES ARE PRETTY MUCH COPYING EACH OTHER. MICROSOFT ANNOUNCES SOME FEATURES AND SONY RUNS TO SAY THEY WILL ALSO DO THE SAME AND VICE VERSA.

That's nothin new though consoles have always done this take the dreamcast added internet then Sony dropps the add on modem... Rumble wireless and so on

Xbox had a HDD on the original xbox, now its a standard thing, when something works they have to add it, or they get left behind.

Thats a fact

Read today that China is lifting it's ban on consoles makes me wonder why Microsoft is splitting profits of new console with a Chinese company if they don't need them to sell there

While the ban is lifted, foreign companies still have to pass through a board that has to basically moderate stuff. So by partnering with a Chinese media company, it's

1. easier for ms to get approval
2. They're partnering with an established media company that can stream their content to the console
3. Not everything is squarely on ms shoulders. This other company has experience in the market and they also have brand awareness.

Those are the benefits of joint ventures.

Ryse downgrade officially confirmed by Crytek CEO

Earlier, it was reported that Ryse had faced a possible downgrade from 150k triangle count per character to 85k triangle count per character. Crytek’s CEO has confirmed this downgrade in a tweet adding that it was their own choice.

This confirmation came hot of the heels of the news that Ryse is not native 1080p and will run at 900p on Xbox One. Crytek CEO Yerli talked more about his game in an interview to VentureBeat. In this interview he said that they wanted to focus on a more cinematic experience for Ryse, bridging the gap between film and games. He also talks about the Triangle count per character which seems to have been downgraded from the earlier reported 150k to 85k.

You can see the original slide that showed the 150k triangle count below

This new slide shows that the Triangle count has been downgraded

Once the news of the downgrade got out, Yerli took it to the twitter to confirm that Ryse was indeed downgraded as they had a choice of choosing either 85k models with better shading and no LOD or 150k with LOD. they choose the former over the latter. Read the tweet below

#Ryse Hero Marius 85k polys? It was choice: 150k polys w LODs vs 85K + better shading + no LODs (stable). The latter wo at better quality!

Ryse is the first game from Crytek that is being developed on the CryEngine 3.5. It looks stunning for sure but news like this about it being downgraded are not a good sign. Does this mean we can expect Ryse in full 1080p with all high details on a PC or it will be a Xbox One exclusive?

Best companies in the world have gotten there through some sort of theft. Look at Apple.

That doesn't make it right or morally ethical, but it is a fact of the business world. Especially in electronics.

Wanna know what to look for on the store shelves when Destiny launches for Xbox One? Don't worry, we've got you covered. COVER-ed. As in look at the lovely cover art below.

Showing Destiny's Titan, Warlock and Hunter classes, the cover is arty, dramatic and sexy. Or it's just a pretty cover. It's not particularly sexy.

Destiny will be heading to Xbox 360 and Xbox One in 2014, and Bungie is set to release a new gameplay trailer for the game tomorrow.

SOURCE: WWW.XBOX360ACHIEVEMENTS.ORG

REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO THE NEW DESTINY TRAILER.

The same way some people only see titanfall as cod w/ robots

Destiny looks to me like a reskinned borderlands, I wanna play it based off it being made by bungie, just not hype for it

I have preordered XB1, but literally have no idea what game to get on Day One, I preordered Ryse, but that doesn't look so appealing now. Maybe Dead Rising 3? Getting the PS4 too and have NBA 2K14 and BF4.
