For me personally im not judging any consoles on any features they currently have. They are both still in their early stages and in the future they will add alot more.
If we go back and see what the 360 and PS3 offered in their initial stage to what they have now its like night and day.

its a big difference considering no one said the 360 took a step back from the original xbox. other than the red ring of death, MS came pretty correct with its 360 release. the XB1 came out showing that it really wasn't supposed to be out for another year.

Cons? Hmmm..... I guess I'd have to say, TV app kinda is useless and slow, kinect was a waste of money, voice controls are a joke and don't work most of the time (could just be mine), library of games is meh IMO and is mostly available for 360 too, and most apps are available for 360 too.

Basically not THAT much different from the 369 at this point IMO
360 it is then, for now.

Weird how PS2 had backwards comp and that dropped in 2002 (?) It's 2014 and we don't have it, seems as we progress into the future we digress into the past. We went too ahead of our time back then haha

in fairness, BC costs money and sony and ms didnt want the costs to get too high. if you followed the ps3, it gradually removed the BC as part of its production cost cutting moves. went from having a BC chip to software emulation to not having it at all. (not sure why the software emulation couldn't have stayed tho).

also, the games are much more sophisticated now vs what we had on the ps1 and xbox 1. makes it harder to fully emulate.

anyone play child of light yet?

I'm so tempted.. Love RPGs and it's been so long for me

Not sure about XBL but there should be a demo you can try out, I know there's one on PSN

You guys think they're going to release some type of way to play your 360 games on XB1?

Man that would have been so clutch :smh:

I don't think they will.

They're barely offered any backwards compatibility with og xb games when the 360.

I really wish they would make it happen though :rolleyes

It wasn't challenging for the predecessors, though. Now they want to hit us with some "This is next gen, it's harder". They took a very small leap if I read the pros/cons right.

Looks like the Jetson's era might come in year 4000.

I hear you.

But at this point, game systems can't get any pricier lol, they might as well throw it in.

But it does suck to either have to:

A. Keep your 360 hooked up

B. Never play your old library again

only system that had true backwards compatibility was ps2 to the ps1 though (off the top of my head).

I don't do video game or OS programming

but I do programming in a different sandbox

and i can tell you as general rule of thumb in programming - The easier sounding the task is, the more difficult the programming process is

PS3 had true BC with the 20 & 60 GB models that initially dropped. Part of the cost cutting was removing the chip in favor of software emulation which was with the 1st 80 GB version.

and @TimShepard, i could have been more expensive to be honest. Sony made an effort to not make the same mistake as they did with the $600 PS3 by having a $400 PS4 this time.

I understand wanting to be able to play your older games on you new console but if it is truly that important, why not just keep your old console until you are done with it and upgrade later. I guess for me it's kind of hard to complain about something that I already knew wasn't going to be there.

Because of Sony essentially used a original Playstation (with it’s several hardware quirks) built onto a single chip as the audio-processor for the PS2, and added bus-mastering feature that allowed the sound chip to take over the whole machine when a original game was run. This worked out without adding undue cost because the power of the original machine matched new machine’s sound processing needs.

To those saying you're glad you kept your 360 (while owning an x1), what games are you playing on your 360?

The system architecture for game consoles is often somewhat exotic compared with your average desktop machine. Software emulation is hard, especially for a sophisticated console. it’s hard because the each system has different processors , meaning everything had to be translated from X instructions to Y instructions. While certainly more deterministic than human-language translation, this is still a hard problem to solve; especially when you only have the limited resources of a console emulation often requires about 5x better hardware than the system being emulated did. Not to mention that the bus system (how the chips are laid out and connected) is very different between the two systems.

Emulation: spend all your time rewriting code and taking others off other projects, to allow people to play games for free.
Remake: remake one game at a time shorter time to translate and make a full $60 bucks off each game sold.

I wonder the same thing. I understand the PS3 because there are still games dropping that are PS3 only but with 360 I can't think of any games unless you have a backlog.

Last year's mlb and boarderlands 2 right now I have a huge backlog and probably play my 360 more then my one at this point (damn you games with gold)

Don't have my 360 anymore but I dearly miss gears of war 3.

Got bored with Titan fall. Been playing 2k lately. My freaking career guy is beast tho
