NFL Week 1 In Review...

To Flacco's credit, it wasn't just him winning the SB MVP, or just being a one-game flash in the pan. His post season run last year was arguably one of the best in NFL history.

And he still isn't a top 10 QB so....Really, who is dying to have Joe Flacco as their QB? Sustained excellence will always be a better marker of performance than getting hot for three or four games.

Statistically in the regular season, Romo actually has a far superior passer rating. The Giants have never been a juggernaut so you're acting like I'm saying Romo is Brady/Rodgers/Peyton. They are similar QB's with a pension for making bad mistakes at times (ie that horrible screen pass to a 3rd string RB to seal the game last night). Those Giants teams barely made the playoffs the year they won the SB. And in many of those games (ie Tyree catch/Asante int drop) they nearly lost the game and the narrative would be vastly different at this point.

People overrate playoff success so much. Jake Delhomme was nearly a Super Bowl MVP and Jeff Hostetler is a Super Bowl MVP. ****, Joe Flacco is a Super Bowl MVP right now. Super Bowl's are not the best measure of QB success like you guys consistently hold it up to be.

And Takeover, call it group think, but I just don't see it with Andy Dalton. Not a bad QB by any means, I just don't think he is the guy you want under center with the way the QB position is evolving in the NFL.
Who had the better passer rating last night?

And who threw three interceptions last night? Eli's numbers (high passer rating, lots of yards but crucial interceptions) looked, dare I say, Romo-esque?

The "Optimism/4th Place finish" quote stemmed from Ponder being the Vikings QB for 16 games last season yet they finished 2nd and won Wild Card. All of a sudden there were people predicting 4th place finishes and saying "it's because of Ponder." Didn't make sense to me. However, based on yesterday, our inevitable downfall this year is going to be Ponder, the defense/LBs, the o-line... ugh. NOTHING good. I would hope that something has to get better, but that probably won't be Ponder.

Ponder! He had one good throw that I remember, and it was the one to Jerome Simpson down the sideline. But just think about the rest of those throws, the one to Jerome down the middle where he had to make a HELL of a catch. Greg Jennings catching the ball near his ankles turning backwards on that slant, etc. Some of those could've gone for TDs with a throw on the $ (Simpson dive), and some could've gone for big gains (that Jennings slant). Spielman is going to stick with Ponder for longer than most think.... he reached on him, and he knows that he was the one that pulled the trigger. Whether that's right or wrong, Ponder will be out there for a while.

David Wilson ****** up a huge chance. He'll get out there again as the started obviously, but they clearly were looking for more from him and just didn't get it.

What the hell happened in that Seahawks/Panthers game? I didn't catch any of it, but the score....

Reggae Bush doing what we thought he would when we saw the Lions passing attempts to RBs last year.

Floyd's catch. :pimp:

When the Giants were down 17-30, it reminded me of that Sunday night game a couple years ago when Philip Rivers and the Chargers made the trip to the Meadowlands. That was the exact score, and Rivers and the Chargers, with absolutely no hope, marched down the field twice and put the ball in the end zone, winning 31-30. I saw that coming.... and thennnnnn the RB had the ball bounce off his hands.

Jaguars and Steelers.

Fred Jackson outplaying C.J. Spiller....over 100 total yards from scrimmage. Do we have another Shonn Greene false breakout season situation here? Hope not.

Lavonte David, wow.

For some reason I have the Eagles winning tonight, but all logic says no. And then Texans over Chargers, but a close one.

It's fine, as long as people are consistent. If you feel that SBs are the end all of a QB comparison, then you need to mutter these words:
Trent Dilfer > Dan Marino

Otherwise, you're nothing more than a hypocrite. You don't get to pick and choose which SB winning QBs mean something in the grand scheme of things.

I think you're taking it to extremes...  You can say that Super Bowls are your #1 factor or a significant factor without believing that Dilfer is greater than Dan Marino.  Ain't that cut and dry.

Yes, yes it is. If Super Bowls are so important to you, then Trent Dilfer > Dan Marino.

Otherwise, shut the hell up, realize that Super Bowls are won AS A TEAM, and kick rocks. Simple as that.

I know, and he did essentially punt the ball with his first INT which didn't' really bother me.

What irks me is this was on of those games where they were at home, playing an average team, and they just flat out looked bad. What optimism can you possibly take for this? Now they go on the road to play a pissed off Raven team.. good grief.

the o-line looked horrid as well.

I don't watch first take quit it with that **** mane.

SInce returning to the league, the Browns are 1-14 in their season openers. they have lost 9 straight.

Are you only capable of binary thought?

Giants- TO's killed us. Give Dallas credit though, they did say Kiffin's D would increase them.

D played very well considering the position that the O put them in. Secondary was very good and held Dez Down.

I really would rather give David one more week, but I understand if they don't.

Cruz,Nicks, and Randle had their way with Dallas's secondary, excited at what this Offense can do if we get the TOs down.

Rest of League-

-Zero doubt that the Pats would win that game, feels like it plays out like that every year.

-Good Win for San Fran, I was unsure about Kaep going into the season but he seems to be progressing well.

-Thought Weeden, and Gabbert would improve a little but I guess not.

- Cannot not fathom how bad the Steelers O was yesterday.

-Seattle looked more like the early last year form, then the Dec one but they were missing a bunch of players though. Hopefully they get healthy for SF next week

MNF

Don't even know who I want to win tonight, Prob the Eagles so ******** fans can quite down.

But depending on the level of contribution they do hold different weights with different QBs. Not all SB QBs are created equal, not all contributions towards success are either

100027 - don't hate the Steelers, hate Bill Leavy

Nope, just tired of hypocrisy.

Super Bowl MVPs > SB rings in regards to QBs. Proves that you can show out on the biggest stage in the world.

But you just used Passer rating as one of the reason's you think Romo is better right?

I get that, but lumping him w/ Jeff Hostetler or Jake Delhomme isn't exactly fair considering what he did in the Ravens run last year.

How many of you guys saw Doug Baldwin's miracle catch on the sideline though :wow: :x

Dude can flat out play.

The Panthers surprised me big time. I knew it was going to be a tough game but not that tough. Their run defense is no joke.

And to whoever said Cam Newton was bad, as stated before, clearly didn't watch the game. He played great his teammates just didn't come up big for him. Defense got lucky on a few drops from Olsen, or else he could've had a huge day.

Excited for next weeks game, gonna be crazy.

That pass that Eli threw on the pick 6 wasn't off the RBs hands.

Eli drilled that ball and the RB wasn't even looking yet and it hit his shoulder pad.

Just bad business.
Scott was suppose to make a sight adjustment and was a little to slow. Still I don't see how Eli doesn't see that Scott hasn't turned around so don't throw the ball

if romo throws that same INT, it's 100% romo's fault. if eli does it, it's on the RB

Just bad business.

It bounced off his left hand.

It was a mis-communication for a screen pass and Scott was supposed to turn around earlier as the ball was coming out of his hands, once Scott realized the play he turned around way too late and an unfortunate deflection. Youth and inexperience for a 3rd stringer, it happens.

Never said we didn't  . Our D is not our problem, especially the line. I recognize we lack on the offensive side of the ball. However, if Geno can manage the ball and continue plays like the "short yard dumps" to the middle of the field, and eat the chains, things can go in our favor.

Thursday night is gonna be rough, can't say I expect to beat NE, but I've seen weirder things happen...

Repped for honesty

Why Jake Delhomme almost put up one of the best Super Bowl performances ever against the Pats and was an ok QB for many years, I'd say they are quite similar. If not for the broncos allowing that Hail Mary chuck, where is Joe Flacco ranked today?

That's my point, the line between greatness and failure is so thin, that's why I don't rely on playoff success as a great indicator of performance.\

And Cruzz, yes I did but the point of that was to show by some measure Romo is better than Eli. The fact is they have been very similar QB's throughout their career despite the fact that Eli has two rings. Eli is in that second tier of QB's with Romo, he has never been in that elite tier maybe except for 2011.

And throwing that screen pass to a 3rd string RB who isn't looking when you just tore up the secondary and you have three WR's over 100 yards was a bad call....or like the general NT public calls it, he pulled a Romo.

*alzono gif*

But I've always said this is Eli's thing.

Play like **** for 3 Qauters, get hot, make some plays, lead to a win and everyone forgets that he's the reason they were down to begin with.

No idea what they tried to run the ball or dump to the RBs. Cruz / Nicks and Randle were eating all night.

Just throw it out.

that's the thing and a good point. at that stage in the game...use the guys that have been doing work all game! nicks, cruz, randle....put em to work!
