  • New Rumor by The Wrap: S2 script is in and 1 M Lead and 2 Co-Stars M/F.
  • New Interview with Nic saying that there maybe only a max of 3 seasons.
  • Pizzolatto has said up to this point all casting rumors were false. There will be female leads, but not an all female led starring cast. The producer has only approached one unnamed actor about joining TD, but that's it. He has a list of who he would like, but is not divulging it.
  • Pizzolatto revealed that in the new season’s current form, “we’re working with three leads. It takes place in California — not Los Angeles, but some of the much lesser known venues of California — and we’re going to try to capture a certain psychosphere ambiance of the place, much like we did in season one.”
He added, “The characters are all new, but I’m deeply in love with each of them. We’ve got the entire series broken out with a couple of scripts, and we’ll probably start casting in earnest in the coming months.”
  • Jessica Chastain's reps have confirmed that she will NOT be a part of True Detective's second season.
  • HBO wants to do a season 2. “I just have to give them scripts and see if they like them! It would be great if we could use some of the same actors, like a reparatory company. It would be different characters, different setting. That’s part of the fun of the anthology,” series creator Nic Pizzolatto told E! News.
  • Matthew McConaughy (Rust Cohle) will not be back for season 2. ”No, no, we won’t be back for season two,” he told reporters backstage at the Academy Awards Sunday night. “Season one was finite.”
  • A new lead character could be a woman, Pizzolatto hinted via Twitter in a tweet he later deleted. “I deleted the tweet because I didn’t want to be beholden to a promise and then change my mind,” he told BuzzFeed. “I’m writing Season 2 right now, but I don’t want to divulge any potentialities, because so much could change. I just never want to create from a place of critical placation — that’s a dead zone. So I don’t want, for instance, a gender-bias-critique to influence what I do.”
  • He emphasized to E! that “the dilemma with the females in the script is that this is an extremely tight point-of-view show. You’re either in Hart’s point of view or Cohle’s point of view. Any character that is not them runs the risk of being peripheral.”
  • Pizzolatto told reporters during a recent Television Critics Association that the series could include an ever-changing storyline and cast, similar to “American Horror Story.” ”There could be a season that’s much more of a widespread conspiracy thriller, a season that’s a small town murder mystery, a season where nobody is murdered and it’s a master criminal versus a rogue detective or something,” he said. ”Even the title, ‘True Detective,’ is meant to be, of course, purposefully somewhat generic. The word ‘true’ can also mean honorable and authentic and things like that. So as long as there is some crime in there, I think the series format can approach it.”
  • Pizzolatto explained more about the filming details: “With this season, once I started writing in earnest, it took about three and a half months to get the scripts. Episode 1 was written in mid-2010, and 2 was written in mid-2011, but I rewrote them and all eight were done by early August 2012; then we moved into pre-production from September through most of January. Then shot a full six months. Then did post from July 2013 to January 2014. It’s very possible to do it once a year; the main thing that slowed us down was having to wait to do all of post-production until after we’d wrapped. I’d like to get two or three scripts exactly where I want them, then start getting the gears rolling in earnest. Casting is its own issue. Who we cast and what their schedule is will likely determine at least some part of scheduling, and scheduling will determine at least some part of casting.”
  • He added that he’s not planning on working with just one director again. “We don’t have any plans to work with one director again. It would be impossible to do this yearly as we need to be able to do post while we’re still filming, like any other show. There’s some great guys I’ve consulted, and we’re all confident we can achieve the same consistency. Going forward, I want the show’s aesthetic to remain determinedly naturalistic, with room for silences and vastness, and an emphasis on landscape and culture. And I hope a story that presents new characters in a new place with authenticity and resonance and an authorial voice consistent with this season. Dominant colors will change. South Louisiana was green and burnished gold.”

True Detective is a new series on HBO that follows the lives of detectives on various cases. Each season is to star two new detectives and the viewers follow these characters throughout the solving of a crime, a similar format that FX has employed for its hit American Horror Story. The first season starred Matthew McConaughey as "Detective Rust Cohle" and Woody Harrelson as "Detective Martin Hart" in an eight-part drama series working to solve the case of a serial killer in Louisiana — a case that's been open for 17 years. Season two detectives have yet to be announced.

Thanks for posting. Looks interesting and it's on HBO.

If Low Winter Sun were on HBO I think I would have watched it. But if you're trying to do gritty crime drama I need some legit gritty and graphic storytelling that isn't allowed on cable.

Saw the trailer last night before Boardwalk, couldn't tell if it was a movie or show....looks fantastic

I know McConaughey gets a lot of hate for his rom-com era, but his recent work is harkening back to the great roles he did before.

This gets a watch from me. I'm assuming Season 2 would have 2 new detectives?

McConaughey is a solid actor.

He's done some great work recently and I think "Interstellar" directed by Christopher Nolan will bring his name up in the ranks.

As for this show, I'll catch it when I'm done catching up with Boardwalk Empire. I'm 2 seasons behind.

Looking forward to this show. Really happy McConaughey is doing different roles these days.

I'm actually sort of annoyed that McConaughey and Harrelson both are only doing one season. Two actors I love to watch do their ****. :smh:

I'm watching for sure. Looks like HBO's reeled in yet another jackpot.

If S1 is a hit and it's looking like winner, who could they get as S2's detectives that would top Matt & Woody? Would love to see a Cuba Gooding Jr and John Goodman duo :nerd: So many possibilities.

dont really like cops shows tho, but the duo format does make for some interesting casting choices

will smith and martin lawrence s2? :nerd:

Cannot wait...great idea by HBO, I bet they can tons of mega stars to buy in on it too...

I would love to see:

Ed Norton + Christoph Waltz

I would watch a Christoph Waltz protagonist (or antagonist :smokin) show for 30 seasons minimum.

This show looks good.... Matty M and Woody. Deadly combo. I'll only buy into the changing of the guard if it is two actors on the same level or better.

HBO has always thrived with its shorter series. The Wire is a lone exception. Even Sopranos dragged and detoured like crazy the last couple of seasons.
Im super pumped for True Detective, I just hope they limit it to one or two powerful seasons.

No more of this vampires and dragons BS please

Dragon bs? I know you ain't talking smack about Game of thrones

haha Im not here to rustle.
I get why other people like GoT
but the way the story crawls inch by inch with no progress in each episode, and ten thousand characters to keep track of, its not for me.
I like fantasy stuff generally, but GoT I just cant get into
