∞True Detective Season 1 Thread ***CLOSED***∞

The acting at the hospital was top-notch. Woody's emotions from Maggie and his daughters visiting him was amazing. Then the last scene (leading in to one last amazing music choice).

The show went out on its strengths. It was not about the killer or the cult or the children being hurt by it, but the two men investigating it that were played by some incredible actors.

I am not disappointed at all. I feel like the cult and their beliefs could've been played up more (instead of turning Errol into basically the big bad of the series). The photos and tape were so creepy, I felt it would've had an effect for guys in animal masks to show up. But oh well.

And at the end, they showed various shots including the tree before the last scene... I def thought Marty was gonna carry Rust there and set the field on fire for some reason, but it never came

Edit: thinking about it, the first scene has Errol carrying a dead body; the last has Marty carrying Rust on to the rest of his life. :smokin

I was completely ok with the way that it ended. It did leave a lot unanswered but i expected that.

Having Rust come "full circle" on his beliefs was a great way to end it. Having him of all people say he thought the light was winning was a very fitting ending. I thought it wrapped everything up very well.

I think leaving the Tuttle family out there also lets season 2 have some similarity to season one. I liked that idea instead of just having season 2 be new detectives and a new plot entirely.

Can't wait until this comes out in a dvd box set or something with tons of bonus features and commentary.

Glad I didn't read any of those crazy theories. Ending was good.

Errol might be the sickest character ever created in tv/movie history. Touching his half sister while she told him about the way their grandfather abused her :x :smh:

The most criticism about the last episode is mostly about every question not being answered, like who else was involved and why Rust, Marty or both didn't die.

People ruined the ending for themselves with all the crazy theories.

It was a great buddy cop show. Even in the last episode they had some classic one liners.

Don't ever change

The genius of this show is how they got people to look deeper into things when the answer was right under their noses. Just brilliant.

What I loved about the ending was that Rust ended up leaning on Marty.

*Read a cool comment on Reddit last night...

Rust lost everything through death.

Marty lost everything, though his family was still alive.

I think this is the yellow king.

That dude was off in his head, who knows what he did to those people and he prob did it infront of this and made them reference it as the yellow king / he called it that.

Someone with video/audio skills should edit vids of Cohle & Hart fighting, giving each other the finger, & ish with this song playing in the backround like it's a new sitcom...

I think this show might be too deep for certain NTers

Y'all expect crap like Saw movie non sense; not what this show is about

Refreshing to get an atypical ending for this...

They could have just as easily "faded to black" where the flare went over the fort as Marty yelled "We're in here".  But they didn't, we got to see them recover and reflect.

I loved this show.  Not sure they'll be able to top a season like this.  Brilliant.

From reading this thread and other articles it seems like people wanted this show to be deeper or at least have everything be connected.

Lol a little dorm room philosophy told by Matgew and boom! Deepest show ever.

Still very good. Was a little disappointed with the end, seemed a little thrown together. Personally, I wouldn't have written a monologue, preferably something not spoken but more subtext. Overall, best cop drama I've seen in a while, but if you watch cop dramas (criminal minds, law and order etc. ) storyline isn't much different. The strength of this show, like 90% of Low concept shows, is the characters. Rust gave you form room philosophy, which if you aren't familiar with, seems deep. Then Marty, the family man with a secret.

Very dope, hope the second season delivers. So glad it's an anthology, for whatever reason I can only follow a series for two, maybe three seasons, then I'm done with it, still haven't finished Dexter or Weeds haha.

I enjoyed this finale

Although at first I was unsure because it didn't answer alot of the mythology/lore based questions we had about the show - and tied up those theories - I remembered that the show didn't really directly ASK those questions - we did.

In essence many of the elements of the show - we took too far.
The Yellow King
Carcosa
Cthulu( spelling?)
The Conspiracy

The show introduced those ideas to us not to emphasize it's metaphysical aspects but more so as direct elements of its plot.
The yellow king + Carcosa etc. - Those were crazy ideas created by a crazy group of individuals. When the detectives and us finally see one of those members of this so called cult - he got exactly what he deserved. Popped in the head. Like any psycho villain should be.

When Rust saw the wormhole - many of us were like whooooo here it is! But - it wasn't - he imagined it - because lets face it - He's probably one of the most damaged characters on TV - also one of the most noble, tragic heroes as well.

The show wasn't about the crazy theories. The show was about 2 true detectives. True to the best thing they were able to do - even when they ****** their own lives up - and lived a ****** up life that they didn't want in the first place. They did the best thing they knew how to do. True to their calling. They solved the mystery and supported eachother - like 2 True Detectives should do.

Like jjs07 jjs07 said, the genius of this show is how it made people look deeper into each episodes trying to figure out the plot. There were so many scenes with what everyone though were clues like it was a "Can You Find It" book.

It generated so much internet chatter that everyone enjoyed talking about as much as watching the show.

I don't know about anyone else, but this is a first show in a long time where I sat at the edge of my seat several times nervous as heck at what was unfolding specifically the 6 minute action scene at the end of episode 4 & when Cohle & Hart were driving to Errol's house & there after.

If someone were to sneak up behind me during those scenes & shouted "Boo", I would sailed right into my ceiling & had my head stuck in drywall....

Quit crying just cuz some people have a different opinion than you did.

Instead of engaging their ideas or mentalities about it, you just throw up a one-size-fits-all middle fingers, plug your ears and say, "Nic said so! Nic said so! NIc said so!"

Okay.

ending was ok. I dont think it needed Rust reflecting. a lot of things were left unanswered, but that's life right?

Yo ONeg, I can't take you seriously with McQueen in your avy clapping like that...

Ish was deep... “I could feel my definitions fading in the darkness... I disappeared. But I can still feel her love there. Even more than before” – Rust Cohle

This was pretty damn awesome.

When I saw this, it kinda blew my mind.

Like, for all that got wrapped upt, there's still a MUCH larger scale game at play here.

Plus Rust saw this, then had the epiphany with his daughter and father's spirits.

I feel like they were hinting at a much deeper world for this show to be taking place in.

Okay.

You're the one who is letting people change your opinion about the show

At least I can formulate my own opinion on something

Who is crying? Dive deep to discover

What are you even talking about? That was to point out people were looking to hard into the Yellow King stuff and it was much more simple and straightforward. That wasn't a negative statement.
