∞True Detective Season 1 Thread ***CLOSED***∞

"its been weeks since i left my mark, or would that they have eyes to see"

i wish we could have gotten more from Errol on what he was doing/trying to do

The more and more i think about, I'm pretty pissed off that the 20 year journey finished with a loser simpleton as the antagonist. That's a pretty weak bad guy after all the years of a super powerful and secret cult was built up. Just not my cup of tea. Show fell off after the interrogation scenes finished save a few moments. I can come up,with a bunch of reasons to convince myself ohhhh it's unsatisfying because life is like that blah blah blah. It lost a lot of its relplayability and meaning with the last few episodes. The acting is ridiciculosuly good though
I think it was a great show but I kind of agree on the one point, I was expecting the final villain to be more badass.. like some hardcore Hannibal Lector type dude. I know it'd be harder to develop that type of character in just 8 eps, but I still think they kinda dropped the ball there

I think there's an implicit/almost explicitly stated explanation for this:

Up to some time in the 90s-2000s, the murders were committed by the entire family and associates.  They were ritualistic and were covered up with political power.  It's why everything was quiet and the trails dried up... until around 2012. Errol started acting more and more by himself, which is why the murders finally popped up on Rust's radar.  They were less veiled.  Rust came back, shook the tree, Reverend Tuttle popped up and was killed to protect the secret (probably by Errol or someone associated with the senator).

It's why the public displays ceased again and why Errol kept killing but started burying the bodies or displaying them privately in his tunnels.  It's why he said "It's been weeks since i left my mark; or would that they have eyes to see."  He hadn't killed anyone in weeks let alone displayed their bodies.

It's also safe to assume Errol was acting against the wishes of his family/co-conspirators -- as evidenced by his chaining his dad to a bed/essentially killing him.

Another safe assumption is that someone else was in charge and the big cult ritual Errol is planning is some sort of ascension to a higher status/existence.

Or maybe he feels he's already there and is trying to repeat/close that circle?

RUMOR: Brad Pitt's name has come up many times.

Damn. :wow:

This show really bringing the a-list out if true.

I think Pitt would be an awesome choice. He'll channel his inner-Se7en.

Finally got a chance to watch and was thoroughly enjoyed :pimp:

Will have to give this a run again

Pitt's aight. He'd be a homerun, far as getting a big name to sell next season goes.

But for this type of acting, he's a downgrade from MM...unless he'd be playing a Marty-ish role, but even then.

I mean, Pitt in Se7en was basically a Marty-sih role, minus that "what's on the tape?!" scene where Marty finds out about Audrey.

At first I thought you guys were talking about michael pitt. He could rock the Jimmy Darmondy haircut again

Why do you guys assume that if there a two new detectives that they would be just new version of Marty and Rust.

It seems like you guys are judging actors based on if they could pull of this season's roles.

Anyway Pitt would be huge, he is great actor and once the role is written for him, he'll kill it.

If I would have my dream pick, it would be Tom Hardy.

I like Tom Hardy because he seems a little crazy in real life. Would be cool to partner him up with someone who is also crazy.

I think brad is an awesome actor with several iconic roles
he makes really strong physical choices- (Lt. Aldo Raine, Mickey O'Neil)

just needed to defend my boy.
I don't want him in season 2.
dream team is Idris / Cranston

sleeper pick: Gyllenhaal (like his role in prisoners :pimp: )

He's had great roles, but that doesn't mean he's a great actor.

He's serviceable, but personally I would never rank him in the upper echelon.

Nah...Brad Pitt is right where he needs to be. He's one a few actors that add something to the role, most actors are just pieces, relatively interchangeable, in the right role Pitt changes a movie. I think he can act in this type of show. He did a great Detective in Seven. Then he played gritty in fight club and in Snatch.

As far as this him v MM... Don't eem start
